All that work for home field
I heard an interesting thing on the radio. They basically said, the Giants worked so hard to get the #1 seed, and now they have to face the Eagles, that's a crappy reward. It's never good if your favored-on-paper to be playing a divisional rival, I know I'm in the minority, but the Eagles terrify me.
Especially compared to Arizona, who is terrible on the road, I would have to imagine that most Giant's fans would rather play Arizona then Philly. I really can't think of a argument for wanting Philly.
The question (knocking on wood furiously) is would you sacrifice possible home field next week (with a Carolina win) to get the Cards instead this week? Especially since I haven't heard of a massive Carolina home-field advantage, I say yes. This is of course not taking into account the swagger we would have from being #1 and have just beaten the Panthers.
PS. It was Bill Simmons's podcast I heard this on, and was immediately followed by the suggestion that the #1 seed gets to choose which team they want, which would be massively entertaining just from the instant bulletin board material it would give the chosen team. I think that's an awesome idea.

Would rather play Cards then Eagles, but...
Panthers are 8-0 at home.

Gimme the best
and gimme who we hate the most. It’s too goddamn bad we can’t beat the Cowboys in the Superbowl. You can say you’d like patsies, but how would you feel playing in the Superbowl against the Rams this year? The reward is proportional to the challenge, that’s why last year was the best of the 3 Superbowl wins I’ve seen.
You play to win the game!

How much incentive would it give a team
to be “picked” by a higher seed. It’s essentually saying that they don’t think you’re as good as the other team. I’m sure everyone would have picked the Giants last year. But, yeah, it would be amusing. Think of the beer commercials that could be made from the clips.

never
It’s a brilliant idea, but owners, coaches, and players would never go for it for the exact reasons we mention

AS IRON MIKE TYSON ONCE SAID...
“He’s a pretty big cigar…but I think I can smoke him” This Giants team loves being challenged. Bring on the best, we will earn that ticket to Tampa New York style.

i never understood the argument of wanting the "best"
do they list the teams you beat on the Lombardi trophy? did the Giants earn more by beating Dallas, Green Bay, and the 18-0 Patriots than the Colts did the year before beating the crappy Chiefs, and one-dimensional Ravens and Bears teams? i don’t think so. both teams go down as SB Champs.
give me the easy road every day of the week. Championships (easy or hard) feel exactly the same way.
