Conversation with BGN, Day 3

Giants_eagles_small_medium

Here is Day 3 of my conversation with Jason from Bleeding Green Nation.

Big Blue View: Let's start Round 3 of our conversation by discussing the health of the two teams. Brandon Jacobs practiced Wednesday for the Giants and appears ready to go. So, it appears right now that the Giants should have everybody ready to go on Sunday. The only guy who seems limited at all is defensive tackle Barry Cofield (knee), and we aren't sure about that. What about the Eagles? Anybody out? Anybody uncertain or limited? (NOTE: If I had answered this today I would have voiced concerns about Justin Tuck, but we had this conversation Wednesday).

Bleeding Green: As far as I know everyone is as healthy as you're going to get at this point in the year. Westbrook won't practice and will be questionable come gametime, but he's been that way for 3 years. TE LJ Smith should return this week after missing last week's game, you may remember that Smith had what was probably his best game of the year against the Giants in week 14. Also 2nd year DE Victor Abiamiri should be back as well. Until he got hurt a couple weeks ago he was having a very good second half to the season....

I hear those DEs from Notre Dame finish well... :)

So am I being an east coast biased NFC East elitist by saying that I think this is the best and most compelling game of the weekend?

Big Blue View: Well, of course you are. But, since I agree with you we can be 'East Coast elitists' together. Really, in the NFC would anybody care about an Arizona-Carolina game if it wasn't a playoff game? Shoot, just tell me the final score. I don't need to watch it. In the AFC, Baltimore-Tennessee is a nice game, but what's the big storyline? I can't find it. Pittsburgh-San Diego is another nice game, but there isn't the history between those two teams that you get with Giants-Eagles. That's what makes this special. We know each other, we have built-in rivalries. Shoot, face it, no matter which team loses Sunday it will hurt that team's fan base even more simply because of the opponent.

Bleeding Green: After the Minnesota game several Vikings fans came over to our site and said they'd be rooting for us for the remainder of the playoffs. My guess is that won't be the case for the loser of this game... Although that said, there were more than a few Eagles fans that admitted to rooting for the Giants in last year's superbowl simply because they despised the Patriots so much.

I suppose that's what it takes for an Eagles fan to pull for the Giants. The pure evil that was the Patriots... Outside of the NFC East, who are the teams that you really just don't like?

Big Blue View: Outside of the NFC East? I honestly don't spend much time working up hatred for any of the teams outside the division. I am old enough to remember the days when the Giants biggest rival was actually the San Francisco 49ers, and I guess it doesn't bother me that they stink. That's about it. The team I hate the most is the Dallas Cowboys, plain and simple. I think most of the folks at BBV would say the same thing. The owner is an arrogant jerk, but the biggest issue we have is the fan base. It's largely a spoiled, arrogant, unrealistic, entitled group that loves to trash talk and likes to believe they are still 'the team' in the NFL. Despite the fact they haven't won a playoff game since 1996.

BAL-TEN

I think most neutral observers would agree it’s the most compelling game. In the division, 1 vs. 6, rubber game, injuries, etc.
And I agree that CAR _Ariz is only worth watching to either of our teams for a sense of familiarity. But to me, Titans-Ravens is a pretty compelling game. I’ve uneasily taken the Ravens in my 1-on-1 playoff pool for a 12-pack with my brother — but honsetly, he just picked first. If he went Ravens, I would have taken the Titans. The Titans aren’t getting a lot of respect in the undercurrent… they went 13-2 this season (and ended on a scrimmage, much less effort than the Giants) with a great multi-faceted game. The Ravens are good, defense is very good (I wouldn’t say there’s a historically GREAT defense in the playoffs this year) but they went 2-5 against playoff teams this year. Yet they’re the hot pick and frankly I’m not going to change my pick back despite that. Can’t forget Tennessee’s defense. I haven’t seen Haynesworth play this year but I hear it’s worth a watch. My record picking games is worse than a drunken Giraffe could pick, but for the ugly record, I’ve got Pitt and Baltimore. That’d make for a great AFC championship game. And by virtue of saying that, I assure it’ll be TEN-SD.
Early games: worth watching. Late games: Worth reading.

You play to win the game!

I think that this will be a good game,

As long as Big Ben is healthy enough, Pitt should beat the snot out of the chargers, and Carolina should whup Arizona.

Speaking of Zona, anyone else see this clip of Warner drawing a picture of God?

Playoffs?

I agree there is no other game as compelling as Giants-Eagles. Ravens? Named after the obscure fact that Edgar Allen Poe died in Baltimore of an undetermined disease. Titans? Tennessee with their long history & cast-off QB? Carolina? [see Tennessee]. The Steelers will probably win due to weather & the seemingly mysterious officiating that follows them everywhere. I couldn’t win a bet if a horse would eat hay but this week looks like pure crystal, Giants, Steelers, Panthers, Ravens.

i disliked Denver

Mainly because of Shanahan. Despite this love fest and “why did he get fired”, he got fired because he was in charge of personnel and assembled one of the worst defenses in history. Also blew a 3rd rounder on Clarret. And he’s a cheater. The Broncos lost a draft pick for making under the table deals to circumvent the salary cap (which I believe was during their championship seasons), “forgot” their home jerseys on road trip to Arizona and made Arizona wear their colored (hot in the desert sun) jerseys, and fined many times for flat out lying on injury reports.

Dallas

What you said, and that so many of the sports writers and announcers always love them

No matter what happens for the rest of the year in the playoffs, I guarantee you that come next spring, Dallas will be picked to top the NFC East,

I dislike the Cardinals whole orginazation.....

I believe JRS can back me up on this…Since the Cards one a playoff game at home ( 1st time in 62 years) the fans and the orginzation have pulled a Jerry Jones and all they talk about is going to the SB. This is a team that palys in a staduim named after the only college in the USA that Doesn’t have a football team. The fans here are uneducated in football and the team management should have been banned from football. Ok i feel better now, yes i live in PHX and have to deal with the Card’s fans ALL DAY LONG……I told my wife, if the earth falls off its axis, and IF Cards make it to the SB, we will have to Move out of state….GO GIANTS…..
