Sheridan will replace Spagnuolo

Bill Sheridan has been named New York Giants defensive coordinator, according to the New York Times and other outlets.

Yes!!!! That is probably the best possible outcome after losing Spags to the Rams.

Here is a quote from Sheridan.

“I’m sure, as much as anything, that’s Tom’s motivation for promoting from within, whether it was me or Peter Giunta, to keep the defense in place,” Sheridan said in the news release. “It’s obviously a proven, excellent system that Steve brought from Philadelphia. You’re obviously going to have a slightly different tint to it, because you have a different coordinator and will get different input from whoever Tom brings in from outside to complete the staff. But the system is in place and there’s a tremendous comfort level with the players.”

Best move they could have made.

I’m glad all the speculation about bringing in an outsider and particularly making basic changes to the system is officially quashed.

I'm ok with this

I’m mostly glad that they filled the hole quickly. Time to start planning for next year already.

Good move staying in house

Our defensive personnel clearly buy into the system so this was the right choice. I don’t know a lot about Mr. Sheridan, but since he was the linebackers coach I hope he will lobby for a playmaker at that position in the offseason.

I like it as well.

Although the last time we hired a defensive coordinator from within, we would up with Johnnie Lynn.

Yikes…

Sounds good, now go get some LBs

Okay, just so I understand it... in your wildest fantasy, you are in hell. And you are co-running a bed and breakfast with the devil.

I agree with the sentiment

Good move & a good sign was the Spags wanted him to be his DC.

Well, not only do we have the same last name

but Sheridan seems to not want to make any wholesale changes to the scheme. I do like what he did with Kiwanuka in shifting to LB last year. I think that was a testament to Kiwaunka’s talent and the teaching of Sheridan.

He needs to go find himself some LBs. I have seen a couple of early draft boards putting the Giants on a defensive lineman. I say stock’em up.

Good move.

Keep in mind that Osi is back and the secondary is young and flush with talent. Besides bringing in a playmaker at LB, there aren’t many moves to make on defense and that squad will play very well next season.

I just hope he's not another Jonny Lynn

Remember the last time the Giants went in house to replace a D-coordinator (John Fox) we got the Jonny Lynn D. Hold the oppent to 10 ponts threw 3 quarters then let up 21 in the 4th. Al Groh was in house in 92 and he wasn’t any good either. Lets hope the Giants break that trend w/ Sheridan.

Good God great comparison and I hope you're not prophetic!

I think the fact that Sheridan would have gone on to DC for Spags in St. Louis at least shows he grasped the concept and inner workings of Spags creation. Lets pray he maintains and surpasses the results.

Like I said

If Spaggy thought enough of Sheridan that he wanted him to be his DC in St. Looie, that’s good enough for me
