(which pretty much garuntees that it’ll be Eagles/Ravens)

I don't believe it either.
The only plus is that I don’t have a knot in my stomach this afternoon. The one downside of being a true fan and the one thing I don’t miss is the emotional element. Sure I hope the Iggles lose, but whatever happens at least I won’t be a basket case tomorrow like I was last Monday.

You know this game sucks when
Joe Buck has to say over and over agian what a great matchup this game is. Hey Joe, it sucks the whole county knows it. I’m a seaon ticket Holder and had the Giants won last week would be at this game. I can’t believe I’m watching these two teams. Django I would give anything for that knot in my stomach right now. Instead I get to watch Donavan dance and act like a jerk.

Watching the Cards
winning this game is making me even more mad about last weekend.
Good for Kurt Warner; I hope he gets back. Still, I cannot believe the Eagles are letting this slip away again and how anemic McNabb looks against an okay defense.

Dawkins is up for NFL Man of the Year?
I know the guys does some cool stuff off the field, but the guy is pretty dirty on the field. I would love 11 guys like him on our Defense, but it still seems ridiculous that this guy is up for Man of the Year.

Arizona will be
the home of the Super Bowl winners…..Kurt Warner is showing them who “dad” is….

what is the ruling here?
the ball clearly wasn’t out-of-bounds, but if it touched Abiamiri while he was out, does that count as being out?
by SBakerTheTouchdownMaker on Jan 18, 2009 4:16 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
wait
they’re not allowed to review a play where a ball goes out of bounds? you have to be shitting me. this NFL replay system needs a serious overhaul. either everything is in play, or nothing is. that’s complete garbage, and i’m not just saying that because i’m semi-rooting for Arizona.

Eagles Loosing their composure!
I can’t believe the Giants lost to this team! Plax made a huge difference against the Eagles. The Eagles cannot rush or stop the run w/ only 4 or 5 they need 8 men and guys like Plax and Fitzgerald get them out of their game. The Eagles are scheme and coaching more than talent and can be exploited. Thats why the Giants lost to them, we lost our most talented palyers, Plax, Strahan, Osi.

Eli will be with us for at least ten more years.
He’s an above average QB. The Giants gave up so much to get him because they wanted a QB who’d be with them a long time. Doesany one think he’s a better QB than Warner? Ever will be? How about Collins? Warner or Collins operating with our current O?
by blue gonz on Jan 18, 2009 4:47 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Warner has been playing out of his mind
Do I think Eli is better? I do. Warner had some extremely poor years and we all witnessed it. He has tremendous talent around him right now and they played an extremely week schedule where he put up amazing numbers.
A select sampling of games:
NYG Passer rating: 79.9
PHI (1st time): 53.8
MIN: 78.9
NYE: 42.4
Carolina: 99.1 & 99.3
Dal. 104.3
He is a consummate gunslinger who is on a hot streak and has tons of weapons and maybe the best receiver in the game that makes every play in Fitzgerald.
My last argument is this guy could not beat out Leinart for 2 seasons. I know Cards were trying to develope Leinart, but if Warner was s damn good, he would have started.
Collins is not that good. He was exposed after a couple of good games. He was a game manager and only won 1 or 2 games for TN. I don’t think he is part of the discussion.
by losangelesmets on Jan 18, 2009 5:03 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Honestly
I think he’s a lot like Collins. Inconsitant at times but brilliant in other situations. I don’t think Collins leads the Giants against the Pats last year in the Super Bowl, he did not have that kind of mental toughness, but I think he would of played a lot better (mistake free) last week against the Eagles. Eli is a high risk/high reward QB, think floater to Tyree that helps win a SB then floater last week to Samual that killed that playoff game. Kerry was a little more steady (like Simms) but if he started off poorley he ended poorley while Eli can lead that last minute drive to win and shake off a bad start. And remember Kerry had a lot of issues early in his carreer I don’t think thats a problem with Eli. Warner might be in the HOF. If Eli can ever be as accurate as Warner he would be great. But Warner does not have Eli’s arm and has been given Bruce, Holt, and Faulk in St. Louis & Fitzgerald/Boldin in Arizona it’s rare a QB gets those types of Players and he’s had Mike Marz & Ken Wisenhunt as coaches, Eli’s had Huffnagel and Gillbride.

Just some stats
So I tried to take get as close as I could to the number of passing attempts Eli has made in his first 5 seasons and compare some stats to Kerry and Kurt.
Comp/Att Pct. Yds PaTds RuTds Ints Sacks Fum Fum Lost
Eli 1276/2284 56% 14,623 98 3 74 120 39 14
Kerry 1289/2391 54% 15,436 81 8 88 144 58 29
Kurt 1537/2340 66% 19,214 119 2 78 176 58 24

Well, I suck at adding photos
But it is a table that if you right click and select “Open in a New Tab” you can see the break down of Warner, Eli and Kerry based on approximately their first 2500 passing attempts.
It is pretty clear that Eli is considerably better and more consistent than Kerry and arguably the Ints/sacks and fumbles lost vs Kurt are notable. I need to derive their won/loss from this as well, but even though Kurt’s Comp % is much higher, the lost fumbles and sacks do close that margin in my mind.

Nice effort, Mets
I think all in all the point is that Eli is doing just fine at this point in his career. First of all, Eli career will never be judged by stats, just like Phil Simms career wasn’t about the stats. Second of all let’s not forget Eli already has a Super Bowl title. His brother didn’t even have a playoff win after five seasons.
by Ed Valentine on Jan 18, 2009 11:20 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Just one thing re Kerry's stats:
He played as a rookie on a first year expansion team. You’d expect both Warner and Eli’s stats to be better for those first five years. As Ed says, stats alone don’t tell the whole story. Anyway, I’m on the record as having been against giving up so much to get Eli in the first place, particularly since immediately improving the O line would have helped Kerry immeasurably.
When they replaced Warner with Eli, although I believed Warner was far superior, I though it was a good move. As you point out, he’s a gunslinger, the kind of guy who’ll create problems for the kind of team the Giants had then: refusing to give up on plays and holding the ball too long, resulting in sacks and fumbles, forcing the ball in an attempt to make a big play. When he played for the Giants, Warner reminded me of Tarkenton with the Giants(w/o the scrambling ability.) It’s hard, if not impossible, for even an HOF QB to shine with a mediocre team. Putting Eli in the lion’s den guaranteed a much less aggressive QB approach, much more appropriate for the team the Giants were then.
I’m also on the record as reversing myself by acknowledging that management’s decision in securing Eli in the first place was the right one in that the team will have a better than average QB for many years, a Simms type, if you will. They also shaped up the O line very quickly w/o too much expense in terms of trades or draft picks, something I didn’t anticipate.
Anyway, to answer the qustions I posed, I do believe Warner is a better QB than Eli will ever be. Kerry throws a better ball than Eli, maybe the best in the NFL. If I had to choose between him and Eli, I’d go with Eli as a better game manager and superior intangibles.

Warner is way better than Collins
by giant fan since 57 on Jan 18, 2009 4:59 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Certainly better, maybe way better.
Anyway, hell of a game. Is McNabb the best inconsistenr QB of all time? will Eli give him a run for his money over the cours of his cateer.
by blue gonz on Jan 18, 2009 6:34 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
good question
I think Eli is the winner of that contest already because he already has his ring though. McNabb might have just lost his last chance.

Wow, the Cards drive there showed a real amount of guts
After they collapsed the lead away.

Ha ha
Eagles lose!
Good game by the Cards. They slumped for about a whole quarter, but came up with a big time drive when they needed it most (sounds kind of familiar, doesn’t it?). I hope they trounce whoever makes it for the AFC.

McNabb
I’ve always kinda defended him, but I can see how Eagles fans don’t like him. He was a no show in the first half. If had played as well in the first half as he did the second the Eagles would have won. It seems as if when the pressure is on he can not come up w/ a play but when the pressure is on he throws it in the Dirt. Very wierd player.

Cards win
Glad to see that. Didn’t want to see the Eagles in the Super Bowl, even though I picked them to win. Also, I’m glad for Kurt Warner (as long as we don’t have to listen to his wife for two weeks).

Usually, if the Giants are out of it, I root for
the team in our Division. I was rooting for the Cards because of Warner and because of their drought since ’47

they used to be in our division

Congrats to the Cardinals.
Thank you for getting all those Iggles off my tv set.
Horrible call taking away that TD for the Steelers.

The Cards are in the Super Bowl
Words I never thought I would utter.
This just makes last week hurt more, the Giants should be kicking themselves for the next 6 months.

True
I am trying to move on, but knowing that the Giants are … in my mind … better than the Cards or the Eagles hurts. But, we didn’t win and that’s life.
by Ed Valentine on Jan 18, 2009 8:38 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
The way the Giants were playing
they would have got killed by the Cards. They are playing really good football right now. It’ll be a good lesson that the jints need to play good football for an entire season and not coast and assume they can just turn it on.
by potroast on Jan 18, 2009 8:42 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
i agree that the Cards
are firing on all cylinders now, but i’d still like to think that playing in 20-degree weather in Jersey rather than ideal conditions in Arizona would’ve made it really tough for them.
by SBakerTheTouchdownMaker on Jan 18, 2009 10:47 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
agreed.
Fuck, I’m an eagles fan. i would say 9/10 times the jints or the eagles beat the cardinals
E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!

in Philly
the Eagles would have won. That team is built for the dome, like the Colts. They lucked out big time that you guys beat us, b/c I don’t think they were winning a road playoff game in the cold. Still not entirely sure how they won a road playoff game, period, except that Delhomme did his best Kerry Collins impersonation.

That Boldin incidnt on the sideline was pretty ugly.
I guess that’ll end all the trade talk for him right there.

I had the same thought.
It came as a real surprise. I never heard anything about him that would have led me to believe he would behave like that.
