Wednesday Mope Around the League: 1-14-09
Good Morning Giants fans. As we all recover from Sunday, believe it or not the NFL trudges on. Since our spirits are not as bright as they should be, a "mope" around the league seemed more appropriate. Here are some of the other stories making headlines around the NFL:
- Scott Pioli helped build a dynasty in New England, and now he will try and do the same as the Kansas City Chiefs GM. The press conference for Pioli is at 5 PM today, so if I had to guess, I would say Herm Edwards will be unemployed by about 5:22.
- If Stevie Defense leaves the Giants for a head coaching job, you can cross Mike Nolan off the list of replacements.
- NBC Sports talks about how new head coaches are making their mark in playoffs.
- The Sporting News talks about how the Rams seem ready to make a change in their long standing philosophy.
- The unemployment rate just went went up in San Diego.
Final NFL Thoughts:
- The Eagles and Cardinals are in my Top 5 most hated sports teams. The NFC Championship Game is an absolute nightmare for me. I'm really left with only the Steelers to pull for. I can't pull for the Ravens, for many obvious reasons. Although its hard to root against Joe Flacco.
- It's really strange that the Giants have been to the playoffs 4 years in a row with Tom Coughlin, but have been "one and done" every year except the magical run of 2007. Coughlin's post season record with the Jags: 4-4. Coughlin's post season record with the Giants: 4-3.
Final Un-NFL Thoughts:
- Did anyone see the God-awful ugly new uniform patch the players will wear for the Mets Inaugural Season at Citi Field? I can't draw a stick figure, but I could have come up with something better. The Mets have an uncanny knack to always do the wrong thing. It might be time for them to go the "Costanza" route, and do the complete opposite of what they think they should do.
- Spent 4 days moving jrs1940 Worldwide Headquarters to a new location. Moving is a nightmare. First, the city turned on the water at the wrong address, then I had internet installed Saturday morning, but had to make 3 phone calls to my provider before it actually worked, then my satellite TV company sent an installer who left a gaping hole in the wall. I hate moving, but we're happy to be settled into the new place, and after Sunday I was grateful for the distraction.
- One last thing: its going to be 72 degrees here today, but with the wind chill it will feel like 65.

72?
Lucky you. Congrats on the move. Where to?
The Mets logo looks like the advertiser slept w/ a box of Domino’s pizza.
Im rooting for the Cards or Ravens. I have too many Steeler and Eagle friends.
Tell me how it seemed everyone around me was like “oh, watch out for those Giants”, last week. This week they’re telling me to take off my jersey and teasing me. Asshole bandwagoners.

hahah
Hahaha, I know, its absurd how many Eagles jerseys I’m seeing around campus, and the dropoff in Giants jerseys. I wore my Toomer jersey on Monday, you gotta rep your team no matter what. The worst bandwagoners are definitely Boston fans—- ordering KG celtics jerseys right before the season when they never cared about the NBA before.

NFC Championship
jrs1940 – I totally agree, awful matchup. Two loosing franchises with no appeal whats so ever. Each team only won 9 games this year, thats so typical for teams like the Cards & Eagles. Even when they win they suck. I’m not into it at all. Imagine if the Eagles & Ravens win. I will not watch that Super Bowl, absoloutley awful. Go Steelers!

at least
the Steelers won 11 games. You could make an argument that they’re more deserving than we were last year. A 9 win team in the Super Bowl is a disgrace.

How does that make sense?
That’s saying that by winning one more game, we were worthy as a 10 win team, but a 9 win team is not. The Eagles got in by luck, granted, they needed 2 teams to lose to far inferior teams, which they did. That doesn’t change the fact that they won 9 games. And the Cards and Chargers would both be a disgrace not because of their records, but because it makes the divisional system look stupid— they had gimme divisions with the weakest teams in the league. But I don’t think a 9-7 team in a strong division, or a 9-6-1 team in a strong division, like the Eagles a disgrace. Either way, I hate the Eagles. McNabb’s phone stunt: kill yourself, I would’ve chucked a beer at your face.

Landeta
that’s exactly what I just told my friend- I can’t root for the Eagles or Ravens, I hate both of those teams. If I watch that superbowl, it’ll be to drink and play poker only. First of all if the Steelers don’t win the AFC championship, regardless of who wins the NFC, the Steelerless Superbowl is being called “the Bird Bowl” which is retarded, and if the Eagles and Steelers both win “The Brotherly Love” bowl which you know, makes sense because the Superbowl is about Brotherly Love and not beating your opponent. I’m rooting for the Steelers 100%… my favorite player not on the Giants is Troy Palomalu, you’ve gotta love a guy who puts team before self and gives it his all every week.

Stuper Bowl
mahmoodzaky – I think most Giants fans feel the same way you do. I love football and I even got into the Super Bowl when the Seahawks were in it a few years ago but Ravens Eagles would be a disgrace. The NFL and NBC for that matter is pulling hard for the Steelers they are the only team left that has any sorts of national appeal. The SB always gets great ratings but I have a feeling this will be the worst rated one in recent history.

Y'all, here in South Carolina it was chilly as well.
I was forced to wear a long sleeved shirt this morning when I went out to feed the horses. As the morning wore on though it became necessary to roll up the sleeves so I wouldn’t overheat. Sorry, couldn’t resist it…..LOL
Actually we are supposed to get very cold for the next two days here. More often than not though it’s in the thirtys at night and about 50 or better during most days.

the weather comments
are just cruel. i spent 20 minutes cleaning a sheet of ice off my car yesterday and even in a jacket and gloves freeze my a$$ off when i walk anywhere. It’s 18 degrees without windchill, estimated at 0 with windchill, and its going to be only 15 tomorrow with windchills of -5. why i’m not in miami on the beach with women of questionable morals….. idk. in my agenda for the future.

Come on down!
There’s plenty of fried chicken and okra here for everyone……LOL
Actually though, I was just remarking to George on another thread that we should make a point of getting together as Ed suggested during training camp this year. I think it would be great fun…..
