I gotta say
I'm amazingly upbeat. The Super Bowl out of nowhere really made my year, it's tough to be too upset when I'm still thinking of it. We watch sports to have fun, and that was one of the greatest 365 days of Giants football I can remember.
My wife bought me the highlight DVD last year, and I've been waiting for the right time to watch it, but haven't yet. I'm going to pour a big glass of scotch, pop it in, and remember as far as I'm concerned, this year has been playing with house money. Go Blue
BTW, a #1 and Shockey's #2 seems like a bargain for Boldin

Bye-Weeks
Continuing the trend under Coughlin of playing horrible after Bye-weeks. Mc Nabb has his worst QB rating of the season & still he tops Manning. Carney misses as many field goals today as he did all year, enjoy retirement John. The Eagles, who slimmed their way into the play-offs when the Bucs lost at home to the God-awful Raiders did not win this game, the Giants lost it.

Why was Gilbride calling all those looong passes given the wind?
I guess he was trying to stretch the secondary given the Eagles focus on the run, but the wind was too much of a factor. This was a game where more short TE routes might have worked better.

Good question
I was moaning about that the entire game. Foolish.

Regardless of what happened today
Here are some things to consider.
New York — We have a lot of draft picks and Jerry Reese. We’ll have to replace Burress and Pierce. Droughns, McQuarters and Madison are probably done. Ward may be gone but Ware is waiting in the wings. Osi will be back. Two kickers; pick one. Is Kiwi a LB or a DE? Wither thou goest, Spags?
Philadelphia — The further the Eagles go into the playoffs, the greater the the likelihood that Reid and McNabb will stay. Reid is a good coach but not a great coach. He makes more bad decisions than McNabb. Dawkins and Runyan are just about done. Jackson is the real deal.
Dallas — I’ll be happy if the two Cowboy couples — Romo/Simpson and Jones/Phillips — stay together for a long time.
Washington — Dan Snyder. Nuff said.

I don't what all the obnoxious Philly trolls have to say today.
I would never trade organizations with them.
Save the neck for me, Clark.

Youre right about Reid
5 championship games in 8 years… Terrible coaching!

It's funny
because it wasn’t long ago that Eagles fans were, mostly, killing him.

That's true
But I was at the NO/NYG game when you guys were killing TC.

fair enough
I walked out of that game being high fived by everyone with my “Tom Must Go” shirt. But, he made a significant change last year

My thoughts
that game absolutely, positively sucked. Possibly the least enjoyable football game I’ve ever watched, and that includes Super Bowl XXXV. I’m honestly not even that upset that they’re not going to win another Super Bowl – as we determined earlier in the season, that didn’t have to happen for this year to be a success. What I am pissed off about is who we lost to – there isn’t a single team in the league I’d rather lose to less than the Eagles, including the Cowboys, simply b/c the majority of my friends are Eagles fans, and b/c I’m also a Mets fan. The city of Philadelphia could sink into the Schuylkill for all I care at this point. If they end up winning the Super Bowl, I’m seriously not gonna be able to be friends with most of those people anymore.
Eli played like shit today. I don’t know if it’s too late to put a roof on the new stadium, but it might not be a bad idea (Brett Favre is nodding his head with me…), b/c Eli just can’t handle the wind. Our receivers had stone hands today, and over the past 4 games in general. I hope the team is in a forgiving mood, b/c I want to see #17 lined up wide next September. That, or bring in a Boldin or a Houshmananana. I don’t want them to waste another draft pick on a receiver – they need someone that they know can be an impact player right away, b/c I expect this team to compete for the Super Bowl again next year. And Ed, I know you defend Gilbride, but the guy’s gotta go. He was awful yet again today. We are a power run team, and when he wasn’t calling deep pass plays, he was running sweeps and stretch plays, which isn’t our strong point. Just give the damn ball to Jacobs and let him do his thing – he averaged over 5 yards per carry!
Next year we’ll have Osi back, and he and Tuck should be able to terrorize opposing QB’s. I’m very optimistic about the future of this franchise, but today really stings. Onward to the draft, I guess…

I gotta disagree on the Cowboys thing.
I’d feel worse for sure if it was the Cowboys that beat us. But I am sympathetic to your anti-Philly considerations (obviously).

I would have felt the same. But I don’t know anybody that’s actually a Cowboys fan. I know at least 25 Eagles fans. They’re gonna make my life hell until September, at the earliest.

CJ
I can’t really defend Gilbride today. But, he isn’t going anywhere … unless Oakland hires him. TC won’t get rid of him.

I just think we could do some great things with a creative O-coordinator. Here’s to Al Davis ponying up some money!

Oh you mean creative
as in that direct snap? Muthaf;pohkiflanfn!!
by ProudYankee on Jan 11, 2009 11:18 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
that wasn't creative
that was panicky. If you’re not a team that runs different formations all season long, then you damn well shouldn’t do it in a key 3rd down in the 4th quarter of a playoff game. And when I say creative, I don’t necessarily mean someone who’s gonna come in and play Osi at QB and line Eli at LT or anything like that. I just mean that I feel like I can predict Gilbride’s plays about 75% of the time, and if I can do it, you know damn well Jim Johnson can do it. Josh McDaniels is creative, Charlie Weiss was creative, and they didn’t use crazy formations or trick plays. Just creative play-calling.

BTW
one hour of DVD watching later, I made the right choice. I feel awesome right now. BBV Nation, I recommend popping in whatever 2007 highlight material you have. You can’t win every year, and I wouldn’t trade last year for the world.
Watching the DVD, I can’t believe how much I miss Strahan, and I’m sure the team really did too. I don’t know who else could have been in the huddle pumping everyone up.
by queler on Jan 11, 2009 6:39 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Strahan & Osi
We didn’t want to admit it all season, but losing two playmakers like that in one season, at the same position, really killed the defense in the end. They did great, but the d-line was gassed.
by Ed Valentine on Jan 11, 2009 6:47 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Observations..
Dawkins in the leagues biggest cheap shot artist, leads with his helmet especially if the player is already on the ground. Gilbride is a fool, Jacobs inside the tackles…8 yards a pop, Ouside the tackles, nada, so what does he keep calling? Toomer is probably done, Manningham?, Moss, Smith is a possession receiver, Hixon is nice receiver but not a game breaker, Plax? Could Joe Horn have helped? Why no use of Bradshaw?? Pierce is done, Mc Quarters was done last year. Who knows how Osi is after the injury?

Causeway
Come down off the bridge, dude. The world has not ended. You sound like you think we’re the Lions. We lost, it happens. BTW, the stretch play is one of Jacobs’ favorites. This idea that the Giants don’t run to the edge, which they did well all season, is silly.

Dawkins is the reason your g-girls are going home , hes taken the eagles on his back and they are responding.Remember this is tackle football not 2 handed touch your g-girls play.

don’t worry about him…most people on BGN think he’s ridiculous also. I thought he was a troll giants fan with a fake name until I saw him antagonizing you guys just now. Good game guys, hopefully for me, the eagles will end this superbowl drought this year. We may have beaten you today, but you guys won it all last year. Again, good game and please don’t judge us based on JD (or any other trolls on here).

and when they ran 216 on the Eagles
it was off the edges. surprisingly enough in the first game they only averaged 3.7 yards up the middle.

I think you got your point across! Thanks, and we know that most of you guys aren’t like JD. I’m rooting against you guys, b/c I don’t think I can live in a world where Philly wins the World Series and the Super Bowl back to back, but I do respect the Eagles. Good luck in the draft though, haha.

honesty
I would cheer for the Eagles against some teams if it wasn’t for the fact that I went to school in Eagles territory, and most of my friends are Eagles fans, and if the Phillies didn’t just beat the Mets for the 2nd straight year and win the World Series. Basically, it’s a bad time to be a Mets/Giants fan with a predominantly Philly fanbase of friends.

there's no way I would ever cheer for Philly
or any other NFC East team in any Super Bowl. not even against the Jets.

Dawkins
went full torpedo dive, helmet to facemask, into Ward (started a fight) and Boss (highlight replayed going to commercial break.
He should be disciplined by the league. He did the same think to AP in the Minnesota game. All of these players were already effectively tackled.
You play to win the game!

Maybe Coughlin can cry to the refs like he did on Sunday and get them to make the call next year.

But niether of them were down and this is the playoffs. You are supposed to go out there and fight for every inch. The league will not fine Dawk for those hits, they were both legit.

I don’t know how he gets away with it. Anyway, spearing with the helmet is illegal.

Spearing with the helmet is illegal
And leaving your feet to fly full extension top-of-the-helmet first into the facemask of a downed player is indefensible by anyone but a blind moron
