A Disgrace

Manning......HORRIBLE.....Carney.....PATHETIC.....The "Five Boroughs".....SLUMS....Kevin Gilbride.....INCOMPETENT...There is plenty of blame to go around for this debacle. The failure of the offense to capitalize on any of the opportunites it had to build a lead & put the pressure on Mc Nabb is beyond comprehension. The lack of a big- play receiver certainly hurt but there is no excuse when Westbrook did nothing the Giants should have been in control from the start.

Fire Kevin Gilbride

Why not? He’s been fired from 3 other teams in the last few years. The insistence on passing into the wind and fire it downfield lost them the game. By the time it was the 3rd or 4th quarter the defense figured them out. By failing to set the precedent he set the team up for failure.

I think Burress was greatly missed as well, and perhaps, perhaps, the Giants go after a guy like Hayward-Bey in the draft. The defense played well enough, but the offense was disgraceful.

There is always next year, but since it is the New York media, I know Coughlin, Eli, and Gilbride will all be under hot water this week.

PLAYOFFS?!

by SSreporters on Jan 11, 2009 4:39 PM EST reply actions

Agree, but Coughlin is fine

Gilbride has got to go, he always makes us scratch our heads and he’s weaknesses, as well as Elis, were masked a great deal by Burress and Jacobs.

I dont think a rookie WR is the answer to our problems, either bring Plax back or make a trade, thats the only way that will be accomplished given our low drafting order.

Okay, just so I understand it... in your wildest fantasy, you are in hell. And you are co-running a bed and breakfast with the devil.

Id be fine with that

Is he a free agent? If not, would they deal him?

if we can get the saints pick to turn into a no 1, I think we’d have a lot more leverage in deals

King's ransom

If you want Boldin… YOu have to start the bidding at what Dallas gave up for an inferior player in Roy Williams. That means a package that includes a first and second may not be enough.

Earth, Wind & Fire....

again looked like the Spice Girls. No Touch Downs at home is a disgrace. Manning was awful at best. What made you guys think that you could beat Philly after the whooping they laid on you 5 weeks ago?

by cool-rockin-daddy on Jan 11, 2009 4:41 PM EST reply actions

Ha

I ran into hundreds of “classy” fans on Sunday while in East Rutherford but the best was the “guy” parked in area 16. About 1 hour before kick-off he takes a shit in the middle of the parking lot on a Reggie White jersey then smeared it on a green Eagles decorated van. The NJSP were called over and took the “classy” Giant fan away. THAT’S classy. Thanks for the compliment.

by cool-rockin-daddy on Jan 12, 2009 4:52 AM EST up reply actions

Hmmmm.....

Oh yea, we go to Arizona and you stay home and watch the team that came to your stadium and beat you twice while ending your season. Your name calling is real “classy” and extremely mature.

by cool-rockin-daddy on Jan 12, 2009 2:38 PM EST up reply actions

I'm far more mature than you because I'm happy to stay home

at the blog that I love to visit where I can speak with intelligent posters about MY team. You didn’t see me posting on the Bucs, Cowboys or Packers blogs last year after we beat those teams. I wouldn’t have posted on an Eagles blog either had your team been good enough to even make the playoffs last year.

You, on the other hand, need to try to rub it in to your opponents in order to feel better about yourself. You won the game. Good for you. I wish you luck overcoming your multiple and obvious personal insecurities.

Save the neck for me, Clark.

by Mr. Met on Jan 12, 2009 3:45 PM EST up reply actions

Sounds like....

a sore loser. I rub it in because I live in the heart of NJ, surrounded by Giant fans for the last 45 years. I take all their trash talking and they take mine. Get over it Mr. Maturity, it’s a game. Way to go Phillies and Go Eagles!

by cool-rockin-daddy on Jan 12, 2009 3:59 PM EST up reply actions

I would be a sore loser

if I went over to YOUR blog and made disparaging comments about your team.

YOU are a sore winner and a chump. I don’t give a crap who lives around you. Go move to Philly then if you can’t take it. You’re the one who chose to live where you live. Take some responsibility for yourself, toolbox. Last word from me to you: have a great day.

Save the neck for me, Clark.

by Mr. Met on Jan 12, 2009 4:12 PM EST up reply actions

Can't take it?

Where did I post that I can’t take it? It’s obvious that YOU can’t take it and have to resort to name calling such as “jerk”, “toolbox”, “sore winner” and “chump”. That speaks volumes about your maturity level. Enjoy the off season.

Instead of assigning blame

I will thank the Giants for what they have given us in the past year. Sometimes you can’t win.

Yup

It was a great season. Magnificent running trio. Eli was good most of the time. The D was strong despite losing Osi. If I had to say anything bad about this season it would be — Burress. Bad attitude. Bad aim. Bad news.

by TerraByte on Jan 11, 2009 5:26 PM EST up reply actions

All your points make this that much worse

They had the team, the record, the home field advantage and they crapped it away with poor offensive execution and questionable play calling.

Why activate Tynes for kickoffs and long FGs and not use him on the 40+ yarders? that makes no sense.

They know Eli cant play in this stadium in the winter, yet they continued to pass and ignore what got them there….the run, particularly against the Eagles.

Okay, just so I understand it... in your wildest fantasy, you are in hell. And you are co-running a bed and breakfast with the devil.

by queler on Jan 12, 2009 1:05 PM EST up reply actions

So...

I could be classy but if you’re going to mock Eagles fans for being terrible…

Simply, it boils down to this. The Giants are the better football team. The Giants are defending Super Bowl champs, the Eagles did not make the playoffs last year. The Giants went 12-4 this season, won the NFC East and earned the No. 1 seed. The Eagles went 9-6-1, earned a playoff berth with a season-ending victory (albeit an impressive one) and are the sixth seed.

You’ve been weighed, you’ve been measured, and you’ve been found wanting.

Enjoy the off season.

by Ed Valentine on Jan 11, 2009 5:01 PM EST up reply actions

Easy, TH

The Giants record made them the favorites. The Eagles played better, and they won. We all knew it could happen, and it did. Stay classy.

by Ed Valentine on Jan 11, 2009 4:59 PM EST up reply actions

Woah woah...

All week the chatter was that the Giants were CLEARLY the better team and that the Eagles could pull off a victory but it would only happen if the Giants played so poorly that the wouldn’t be able to recover. The Eagles ARE the better team and got no respect leading up to this game.

This wasn’t a fluke, this wasn’t unlucky, you ran over 100yds on this game and couldn’t come up with the win. I was tired of hearing about how the Eagles were only lucky to get this far and didn’t deserve their shot. You may of won a SB last year, but you are NOT better than this years Eagles team. You aren’t as deep as this Eagles team. Your defense isn’t as strong as this Eagles defense. And Manning will never ever, be as good as McNabb. I was tired of the disrespect, and while I thought it was a good game, the Giants did not respect the Eagles coming into this game and they paid the price. Pierce made comments, Jacobs made comments, and they got handled.

by thwalls on Jan 11, 2009 5:41 PM EST up reply actions

Wow - good thing the Raiders beat the Bucs

giving you a chance to show off how awesome you are. Otherwise you’d be home crying like every other off-season you’ve ever had.

by Mr. Met on Jan 11, 2009 5:48 PM EST up reply actions

I don't know what game you watched

but the Giants didn’t have a pass game today. The Giants defense played fantastic, and deserved to win this game just as much as the Eagles defense. The difference was that McNabb’s picks weren’t returned to the 1 yard line.

by cjmulrain on Jan 11, 2009 6:01 PM EST up reply actions

Considering

that you guys were ready to run #5 and Andy Reid into to Delaware River in December you’re Eagles are great argument rings hollow. But what ever y’all won.

by DoctorK16 on Jan 11, 2009 6:13 PM EST up reply actions

“you guys”, which guys? Me? Did I say that?

Sure, the Giants Defense played fantastic…except for those touchdowns and points and whatnot, they played topnotch. Oh, and when they couldn’t get off the field in the second half to save their life, except for when the eagles with their incredible running offense was trying to run out the clock, that Giants D was incredible.

The difference in this game was that the Eagles converted 3rd downs. Period. Eagles 7-14, Giants 3-13. It wasn’t picks, it wasn’t your D, it was your offensive ineptitude.

And since you wanted to talk about andy and #5. Midway through last year you wanted to fire your head coach as well, but then you win the superbowl and he becomes a coaching genius. If you guys lost in the playoffs his job was going to be in jeopardy but now, he’s immaculate. Please, don’t give me that hypocritical nonsense. And for the record, I’ve always been behind Andy and super 5. 5 NFC championship matches in 10 years…I’ll take that.

by thwalls on Jan 11, 2009 9:37 PM EST up reply actions

dude we gave you 7 points

on the Samuel interception. The Giants defense wasn’t the problem today. Much of Philly was down on McNabb and Reid at the end of Nov. This can’t even be debated. Now all the yeah I was a believer shit comes out. Whatever man.

by DoctorK16 on Jan 11, 2009 10:20 PM EST up reply actions

Ahh yes

You gave it to us. We didnt make any plays, you just made mistakes… That’s the way it always works.

Two sets of fans are going to look at the same play two different ways.

by JasonB on Jan 12, 2009 1:14 AM EST up reply actions

good for you

but are you gonna deny that the majority of the Eagles fanbase was ready to dump them? Want me to go through the BGN archives?

And yea, our offense sucked today. I dare you to find a Giant who denies that. It wasn’t our defense, it was our offense, and the fact that we couldn’t kick field goals. The defense gave up 23 points, 7 of which came after the Eagles started at the 1 yard line, and another 3 came on another drive the Eagles started inside Giants territory. The Eagles had exactly 3 drives which lasted more than 6 plays. The Giants had 6. The Eagles had 5 drives which lasted 5 plays or more, the Giants had 8. The Giants had more total yards and won the T.O.P. The difference, as you said, is that our offense was inept and couldn’t convert when it mattered. Hats off to your defense for shutting us down in those situations, but don’t pretend that makes us a terrible team and you guys the 2nd coming of the ‘85 Bears. It doesn’t.

by cjmulrain on Jan 11, 2009 10:22 PM EST up reply actions

Guys

In 2006 I was at a game where the entire stadium was throwing jerseys off higher levels of the stadium, chanting “FIRE COUGHLIN,” etc etc.. Whts your point with most eagles fans wanted McNAbb’s and REid’s head?

The reality is our defense is better and it was going to come down to who’s offense sucked worse and it just so happened Eli answered the question.

E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!

by Joe_D on Jan 11, 2009 11:04 PM EST up reply actions

we're not denying

that we wanted Coughlin gone a year and a half ago. Thwalls was the one denying that people wanted Reid and McNabb gone. It doesn’t really matter either way, winning cures all, for any fanbase. Cowboys fans want Phillips and Romo gone, but if they win 13 games and (more importantly) a playoff game next year, they’ll sing a different tune. Nobody in NE is calling for BB’s head, but If the Pats gp 4-12 next year, there might even be some rumblings for him to get fired. That’s the nature of sports, especially in the northeast.

And I disagree that your defense is better than ours. Your offense, definitely. We just have no passing game w/o Plax and when Eli is throwing the ball all over the place. Neither team today put on a dominating defensive performance like the Ravens and Titans yesterday – this was more a story of which offense was worse, and it was ours. Not saying your defense isn’t good, it is very good, but it’s not the ’85 Bears or the ’00 Ravens, or even the ’08 Steelers.

by cjmulrain on Jan 11, 2009 11:37 PM EST up reply actions

Not dominating?

Our defense held you to three FGs… Is that hard for you to give us some credit?

If three FGs is not dominating, what is?

by JasonB on Jan 12, 2009 1:15 AM EST up reply actions

but

how many balls did Eli throw right into their mittens? Was the Cardinals defense dominating, or was Jake Delhomme just really, really bad? I think it’s a mixture of the two, but I don’t think you can say they were as good as some of the AFC defenses. Just a personal opinion. I’m giving you guys credit – you had a better overall team than us yesterday. But I think if your offense played against your defense, they’d have been able to put up 23. And if our offense played our defense, they’d have struggled to put up 11, just like in the game that was played. I don’t think it’s fair to our defense, which played fantastic for most of the game, to say that the Eagles defense was clearly better than them.

by anuj on Jan 11, 2009 5:24 PM EST reply actions

Well I guess

I can say, thanks for kicking our ass Eagles. You thoroughly undressed our O. I love my Giants and think with the youth at many of the positions we will be a perennial contender. I loved what I saw from our D. But Eli really must practice this off-season on how to pass tighter spirals. The guy through too many ugly ass passes.

Carney, you suck. I don’t give a shit that you missed 3 FG’s all season. The majority of the ones you nailed were “chip shots” when we couldn’t put it in the end zone. I would like to see how many were from 20-40 yrds out. Tynes needs to be our kicker all next season. Ill take him muffing one’s in the regular season and nailing them in the post.

Gilbride. Oh Gilbride. You are why we lost today. More than Carney realizing he was 44. More than Eli and his horrible tosses. You decided to take the most prolific run game in Giants history and toss it out the window. Everyone watching it knows what I am talking about.

Eli’s 1st pick- Besides it being an ugly ass pass and poor decision, why the hell are we running a bootleg that deep on our side of the field?! RUN THE FUC*IN BALL

Eli’s 4th&inches- People might disagree w/ me on this one, but A) if your gunna run a QB keeper, you speed up the process, you don’t allow the D-line to settle down and prepare. You get to the line quick snap and push. B) Eli is not that STRONG, he has almost 0 lower body strength. What makes Gilbride think he can push a line froward

4th & 2- Direct snap?! WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! F-U Gilbride. We choose w/ the season on the line to direct snap? Are you kidding me?

These are just 3 instances. 3.

by ProudYankee on Jan 11, 2009 5:34 PM EST reply actions

now pick was a good play by Philly

it was on Eli for not getting the ball off right, but he forced because that is a play that usually buys him a ton of time in the pocket and Philly didn’t fall for it, in the slightest

If Mcgag

I am.

I just know, that if the Eagles fall short whether it’s next weekend or on Feb 1st, Mcnabb’s clutchness will be questioned. For the sake of argument, I wanted to ask where would he be on all-time never win the big one lists. I mean 5 NFC titles games is a ton. You have to win one of those SB’s. And if I’m an Eagles fan, this year in particular, you have to be thinking, get it done. They have the D, they have the momentum, they have that “chip”. And if they fall short again, you have to be thinking Mcnabb will never win one.

I let the season go, w/ 9 mins left in the game and Eli not running the no huddle. I think I’m allowed to create a tangent thread. It has everything to do with the game today. Good game, yada yada yada. Now let me discuss Mcnabb’s gains and failures.

by ProudYankee on Jan 11, 2009 11:28 PM EST up reply actions

To be fair to McNabb, Jim Kelly was a hell of a QB, better than Eli or McNabb.

He had four shots at the SB and didn’t win once. I don’t think most knowledgeable fans would call Kelly a choker. How about Tark? He had his shots, too, and never came up a winner.

by blue gonz on Jan 11, 2009 7:25 PM EST up reply actions

in Marino's defense

except for ’82, he never played on good teams. He was never surrounded with the kind of talent Tark, or Kelly or Manning or McNabb had/have. The Purple People Eaters; Thurman Thomas, Andre Reed, and Bruce Smith; Marvin, Bob Sanders, Dwight Freeney; Westbrook, Dawkins, TO, and everyone else.

It's all on Plax and the wind

Eli can’t play in the wind, so that is a problem. He can’t win at home in the playoffs. I love him, but look at the wins last year. Tampa Bay, Dallas, Green Bay was just freezing cold, but not windy. The other playoff game for Eli was against Carolina, 23-0. No touchdowns in that game, no touchdowns yesterday.

And Plax? Come on, this offense was set up on Plax. Smith, Hixon, Toomer, Boss all got open because of the coverage of Plax. Smith and Hixon are good young WR’s, but they aren’t #1’s yet. They need a #1 WR. They should go sign Houshmanzadeh.

So they need a #1 WR and they need to not win the NFC East, make the playoffs as a wildcard and win games on the road.
