Shockey to work with Brees
After the worst season of his career, guess who has decided that maybe he should spend some time in the off-season working with his quarterback? Our old friend Jeremy Shockey.
"I'm going to do a lot of work with Drew (Brees)," Shockey said. "I'm going to be here working with these guys. I haven't done that in five or six years, and I'm not saying that I didn't make the right decision in the past. Just here, I think it would benefit myself and the team a lot more than it would if I was playing, doing the one up in New York."
All I can do is laugh at that.

It is kind of funny
He refused to stay around to work with Eli for the good of the team but, he can live with overwintering in the French quarter during Mardi Gras?…………….The sacrifices he makes!
We're only gonna score 17 points?

All I know is..
that number 2 and number 5 draft pick will be mighty nice. Maybe those players (one of which will surely be a stud TE) will want to work with their QB from the start.

Maybe it's just the holiday spirit
but I’m in a mood to give Shockey the benefit of the doubt. Maybe he’s finally grown up. Maybe it’s just the thought of watching the postseason on TV with his former team as the top playoff seed. Whatever. Only time will tell if he’s sincere. But I wish him well.
That said, yes, those extra picks do look good right now, especially with a smart GM who knows how to use them wisely.

I'm with you
Maybe it’s because we’re winning, but I have no hard feelings toward Shockey. He was a bit of a loudmouth (maybe more than a bit), but he was also a pretty effective player when he was healthy, and this team needed some attitude when he came along. They’ll get two players for him, and he’s probably past his prime, so that trade works out for us. If he’s figured it out and puts in the work to have a couple more good years, good for him. Either way, it was nice knowing you, Jeremy.

i agree with you guys...
i too will give shockey the benefit of doubt because when he did play for us he gave it his all on the field even though his mouth was a cancer for us. best of luck to you shockey, i hope you regain your form again except when you play against us and those two picks sure sound GREAT!

This is him trying to disavow himself of any responsibility
Look at what he says:
-I want to work on my game, something I did not do in New York (okay, fine… but)
-I think it would benefit him and the team more than it ever would have in new York (ie I am not responsible for this past season because I came from New York where I learned bad habits because this type of thing would not work on that team that “underutilized” and did not appreciate me)
It is just another man-child excuse to go along with his usual behaviour. It may benefit him as a football player, but he is still the same 9 year old in a fully grown body.
