New York Giants' notebook, 09.30.08
Here are a few New York Giants' notes for a Tuesday as the team preps for Seattle.
- Danny Ware certainly didn't do himself any favors when it comes to his future with the Giants by getting himself arrested during the team's bye week break. It will be interesting to see how the Giants react to this turn of events with the rookie running back.
- Mathias Kiwanuka says the bye week helped his tender ankle.
- Here is coach Tom Coughlin's Monday press conference. One of the topics was the Giants' tendency to struggle after a bye week.
- The Giants are alone atop the NFC East. They realize, however, that it is way too early in the season to start looking at the standings.

Too early for them....
Not for me. 3-0 is nice, I’m enjoying the Big Blue View from up here.
The Danny Ware story is a strange one. If you read the article from the Athens Banner-Herald, you see the comments from people, and this definitely sounds like it could be a case of a cop on a power trip, its been known to happen. If cops are going to start going after “pedestrian drunks”, the jails in Philly are going to be overpopulated. Honestly though, who on this board can honestly say they’ve never gotten drunk and walked the streets?
I’d rather have him getting drunk and wandering the streets instead of driving on them.
He pulled a “Ron White”, he was “Drunk…….in…….PUB BLICK”
Danny Ware’s new nickname might become “Tater Salad”

completely agree
about the Ware situation. Sounds like he was enjoying the festivities at his alma mater (I love the fact that he had the “G” stickers on his face, like he’s some 18 y.o. freshman rooting on his college), and made the mistake of standing in the street instead of on the sidewalk. Not exactly the same as shooting up a strip club. I wonder if the league will suspend him for this though, regardless?

Ware
I can’t fault Ware for this bad judgment given some of my own indiscretions during college and a few years that followed. However, Tom has been tough on guys like this and given the Giants RB situation, I think they might make some room on the roster and cut Ware.
Hopefully, the real story is how you guys have stated it and Tom believes him. He is a young kid with some good legs as shown during the preseason.
Still, I hate having these types of small distractions during the bye week.

Coughlin
gave Tyree a second chance. It doesn’t sound like Ware’s a bad guy either, we’ll se what happens.
We're only gonna score 17 points?

Did you guys catch this in Peter King's SI Column today?
Interesting:
“By the way, stay tuned for the Steelers making a deal today, or picking up a stray running back somewhere with the news that Rashard Mendenhall also is out for the year. I’m sure they’ll do what Green Bay did last year with Ryan Grant, which is to call the Giants. New York would part with Danny Ware or Reuben Droughns and still survive nicely. If I were Mike Tomlin, I’d want Ware, even though he had an alcohol-related arrest over the weekend. [Not in a vehicle, but a public-drunkenness charge.] Ware’s a tough runner who, like Grant, can make people miss and is deceptively fast.”
I’d be pretty fired up if Reese can keep stockpiling draft choices like this.

No, I didn't
But it did cross my mind that Ware to the Steelers would be a possibility. Snag a 5th, 6th-round pick or something like that and it’s not a bad move for the Giants.

i agree
pretty lame for a dude to be rocking those.
but if Ware got hamered at the tailgate on Pucker and Smirnoff Ice, then i’d be more worried.

So long as Fassel isn't calling the shots....
I have a little more faith coming out of Bye weeks. Did Fassel EVER win a game out of a bye week? I think he might have won once.

Cody since you asked.....
The Giants were 1-6 after bye weeks under Jim Fassel, winning only in 2000 against the Eagles at Giants Stadium, 24-7.
Under Tom Coughlin, they are 1-3 after the bye, winning in 2006, 19-3 against the Redskins also at Giants Stadium.
So only 2 wins in 11 years, but both at home.

Cody I took it one step further
in that same time period
The Eagles and Skins are 9-2 after the bye
The Cowboys are 8-3 after the bye
And if you were curious:
The Seahawks are 4-7 after the bye

Hey if I was busy at work
You’d all be bored without me.
Luckily, I have one of those jobs where I can do my work much quicker than people think, leaves me alot of down time.
But I always pull the “Costanza” and try and look annoyed so everyone thinks I’m busy.
