New York Giants' notebook, 09.23
Here are a few New York Giants' notes for a Tuesday afternoon.
- The Giants are 3-0, but still believe there is plenty of room for improvement.
"I think we have done a good job of finding ways to win," center Shaun O’Hara said. "That’s what you have to do to be a good team, find ways to win, even when you are not playing your best or things are not going as smooth as you would like. You just have to find a way to get it done."
---
"We still have things we need to work on," quarterback Eli Manning said. "With three games, there is a lot of stuff that happens, that you can make adjustments on, and that’s what we will work on this week."
---
"This is a team that can still improve," said veteran cornerback Sam Madison. "It’s a team that is still hungry, with a lot of young guys still ready to produce. We’re a football team that still has something to prove. There is a lot of upside to this football team."
To me, that recognition of their imperfections and desire to continue getting better is one of the best things about this team. It is not a team resting on its accomplishments.
- Bye week will help Aaron Ross rest his injured shoulder.
- Transcript of Tom Coughlin's Monday press conference.
- Directing comebacks is old hat for Eli.
- Schedule doesn't do Giants any favors.
SITE NEWS: Big news for Big Blue View this week. I have been invited to write a guest column for 'The Fifth Down,' the New York Times football blog. I believe the column will appear Friday, but I will keep you posted on that. I dreamed about being a sports writer for the Times when I was a kid. So, this will be a huge thrill for me.
Here are this week's Giants' stats.

The Giants schedule.
Aaron Ross injury I would guess is lingering from last season. Hopefully he won’t need any surgery because the only replacement would be the inexperience Terrel thomas. However if R.W Mcquarters recovers then probably he would be the backup. As Madison may get the start.
I don’t think the schedule really matters for any team. This is just another thing the press can use against the giants. The bottom line is that either your a football team that does good or a team that can’t cut it.
Eli Manning is the Magician QB. The first game he had that nice rushing TD. Last week he threw a pass with his left hand. Who knows what else he has up his sleeves??

I can't believe how psyched he was
Have you seen the clips of him on the sideline. After both drives, he is fist pumping and flexing like a mad man. I’m almost buying him as a badass

congrats Ed
i actually haven’t picked up an NY Times in awhile. as a kid it was banned in my house because my dad used to call it “liberal garbage.” i’ve only really read the Post or the Daily News, which are more tabloid than actual news.
i’m looking forward to it.

Thanks
This will be Web only, as far as I know. I don’t believe the blog appears in print. I will have to check. It is a big thrill for me. When I was just starting out, I hoped to one day be a sportswriter for the Times. So, for one day, I get to be one. Cool!!

I’m a big Times reader, I read the online version ever day, and read “The Fifth Down” occasionally. I’m excited for you too!

Eli ...
91 QB rating & still over 60% completion percentage. I didn’t think I’d see the day.

5th Down
Great blog; nice work.
Does anyone know if S Moss was dangled in front of Seattle? He’s quickly becoming the Carl Pavano of the NY Giants….
