Last night Dallas used two RBs in the lineup

at the same time.  They ran a scissors play and Jones scampered for more than sixty yards.  A while back, Ed advocated for the Giants (with their wealth of good RBs) to put in two of them at the same time occasionally.  I think it's a good idea.  How about the rest of you?  How about something more extreme-- two RBs, two TEs plus Hedgecock?  With the backs we have, would it be hard for opponents to stop the run?  Would it wear out defenses and set them up for the long ball?

That would be some statement!

2 TE’s backs PLUS Hedgecock! Everyone knows(99%) it’s a run. Can you stop it or not? If not it would be the ultimate demoralizer for the opponent. If they did use this formation, guaranteed the D would call a time out just on the fear factor alone. The 72 Dolphins used Morris Czonka and Kick in the same backfield. ………..I love the idea. Which hand do you want it with?

We're only gonna score 17 points?

I don't know

about 2 TEs plus Hedgecock … but, Jacobs with Ward or Bradshaw occasionally would be a nice thing to say.

Whoops! (cont.)--with three backs,

why not really screw with their heads and pass? Hell, you can still pass with three
RBs (just like Miami with Csonka, KliiK, Morris and GRIESE.

NFL coaches

are very copycat. No one likes to go out and do something radically different. It’s a one-back and a fullback league now. Nobody seems to remember that you can actually have two real running backs on the field at the same time.

what's funny

is the conventional wisdom is that college style offenses can’t work in the NFL, which is why teams almost never run the option play. Funny, then, that the direct snap HB option burned the Patriots not once, not twice, not three, but FOUR separate time yesterday.

I would love to see them line up multiple running backs in the backfield.

Yeah, I'd love to see the Giants able to run the option as they once did

(most memorably with Giff. ) The problem is that these days football players are specialists, by and large. The days of the triple threat back and the quick kick are gone. I watched a game at the Polo Grounds—St. Mary’s vs. Fordham—when All-American Squirmin’ Herman Wedemeyer (later in the cast of Hawaii Five-O) returned a Fordham punt with his own coffin corner kick, trapping the Rams on the one yard line. On the next plat, as i recall perhaps inaccurately, St. Mary’s scored a safety. (I’ve been wanting to share this story for a long time. It’s right up there with the greatest plays I’ve ever seen and certainly the most unexpectected.)
Anyway, if the Giants have any RBsor even WRs who can throw the ball, I’d love to see them try the option. Tiki tried it a few times, but all he could throw were ducks.

fassel

That was one of the things I loved about Fassell, always had some weird formation, especially with Tiki spread wide. Nothing is funnier looking then Kerry Collins lined up as a wideout

We used to

run the flea-flicker at least once a game under Parcells, as I recall. I say we resurrect it.

We're gonna STOMP you out!

the reason we won't see this

is I’m not sure any of the Giants backs are good enough blockers to pass out of a 2 RB formation. MBIII is really good blocker and Tiki became one too.
