Giants' post-game reactions
Here is some post-game reaction via Giants.com:
From Eli Manning:
Can you just generally sum up your thoughts on the win?
“That was a fun one. That’s a game that wasn’t pretty at all times, we didn’t play our best football, but that’s just kind of how it goes sometimes. Everything’s not going to go perfectly and you’ll have some ups and downs, so we kept fighting, we never gave up and when we needed to make plays I think guys stepped up and made plays. We’ve always kind of had that ability and had that about us, and it’s good that we haven’t lost that. It’s something you can’t really coach, you can’t teach. For some reason when it’s clutch time and we need to make some plays, we tend to find a way to make plays.”
With regard to yourself in late game situations, do you relish them?
“Yeah, I mean, you don’t always like to be in them, but it’s good that when we go into those situations we can make plays. We kind of get into running a lot of our base plays and plays everybody feels comfortable with, protections guys know, routes everybody feels good… Guys are reacting, they’re playing fast. You’re not thinking much, you’re just reacting because you’re seeing everything clearly. We’re doing a good job of doing that and hopefully we keep that up.”
From Tom Coughlin:
Give credit where credit is due to Cincinnati, they played well. They came in here, they were 0-2, their coach said they were going to play hard, they did play hard, they were physical, they hadn’t shown that kind of pressure in any of their previous games, they really did a nice job of that. Some we were able to manipulate and others we weren’t, they moved the ball, they had some runs in the first half which put us back on the drawing board so to speak at halftime. They made plays when they had to in the passing game. We responded. We had the one long drive in regulation in the fourth quarter and then, of course, they did, too, but then we followed that up with the overtime plays and we are just happy to have the win. The Cincinnati Bengals are a good team. I had a sense that here is a team that was tenth in the league in ranking offensively and hadn’t really gotten themselves on track and we saw them get pretty much on track today, but they also were very good on defense today. We had our hands full and we found a way to win.
From various other Giants' players:
Chris Snee on overtime play: We didn’t do a lot of things right at certain points of the game, but when it was time for this team to step up and win the game, we did. Obviously we would have liked to play more consistent throughout the game, but we got the win. A game like this is something we can really build on. On the last drive we had a lot of confidence and we knew what we had to do. I needed it. I just got an opportunity to make a play. Things don’t always go the way you want it, but if it comes down to it, I’m there. Going into overtime we knew we had a lot of momentum left. We just find a way to win; that is the key to this team. We just found a way to win; I’m real excited. Sam Madison on today’s game: We were able to come through today. I thought we played tough when we had to. We gave up a couple of passes here and there, but overall I think our team played extremely well. We wanted to put pressure on Carson and we did that. But he got some balls out quickly. For us it was a great effort by everybody on this team. Playing the scout team all week and getting the chance to see what they do, you know that they have a lot of confidence in each other and what they do. You just knew they were going to get it done. We just came together as a team when we had to. Amani Toomer on his reception in overtime: I needed it. I just got an opportunity to make a play. Things don’t always go the way you want it, but if it comes down to it, I’m there. Going into overtime we knew we had a lot of momentum left. We just find a way to win; that is the key to this team. We just found a way to win; I’m real excited.

The Bengals
played a great game today. Honestly I thought overall they probably outplayed the Giants, but sometimes its better to be lucky than good, and I’ll gladly take the win.
I think the best thing to come out of this game was the Giants faced a lot of adversity, and managed to play thru it. I think that says alot about the character of this team.

Cincy
Didn’t look like an 0-2 team. That had to be a rough loss.
Is anyone else concerned that the Giants aren’t getting any turnovers? Good defenses generate turnovers.
Good point
This is a very good defense. It is interesting that there haven’t been the turnovers. I think they will come, though.

I keep reading about how well the Bengals played
On ESPN’s blog, they had to say about 12 times “the Bengals played great today,” yet, the Giants came out with the W. I don’t know much, but I do know that when people keep saying a team played great even though they lost, that probably means the team they lost to is pretty damn good.
The ‘Boys keep getting all the press, but the Giants are now one of 4 undefeated teams in the league, and one of only 2 in the NFC. They’ve got the longest win streak in professional football (I think, any CFL fans wanna check on that one?) and can win even when they don’t play great. I’m liking this team a lot…
By the way, the NFC East is currently 10-2 overall, and 8-0 when not playing each other. Move over AFC, it looks like the NFC East is the dominant force in the NFL.
G-men
3-0 is 3-0. You have to win games like this to end up with 11 or 12 victories, or more.

that was the most exciting game I've watched since the Superbowl
that said; I felt like our boys could’ve done a bit more. I was really happy to see the master of the two minute drill/overtime at work, or Eli as he’s more commonly known, and I noticed something in common in the post game comments: we made plays when we had to.
Am I the only one who feels that we try out all sorts of outrageous things with regards to the play calling in real game situations as opposed to practice, and them revert to effective no nonsense football when the game is on the line? Also, that play where the Palmer put the ball over the middle beat us WAY TOO MANY times. It was like a garaunteed 3rd down conversion each time the ran it. Spags, if you’re going to send six, make sure SOMEONE gets there.
that pass over the middle
has me worried too. that was a problem for them during the season last year too. that need to be shored up because philly & dallas will do that all day.
if our guys feel as positive about the win as they do
then so do I. But I don’t think we can get away with that type of ball at any point after week 8 when we face the Steelers. Also, I really wish Pittsburgh and Green Bay had won today. Yes I’m happy the NFC East is the best division in football, but a full game cushion at the top would come in handy later in the season. Oh yeah, and how ’bout them Dolphins?! That was an upset I was quite happy to see! And Denver appears to be the real deal as well! Jay Cutler is living up to the hype I gave him his rookie season. I said give the kid a couple years. My trick for spotting a future elite QB? His speed/distance of his hitch step and the quickness and velocity of release. Oh and one more thing: I thought Eli showed great poise in the pocket today. GO BIG BLUE!!!!!
In the 1986 season we won a few ugly ones too.
All those close ones and “lucky to win” games are quickly forgoten after a successful season, as they should be. All great teams have days when they totally dominate, days when they win with grit, and days when they just get lucky and steal one.
I didn’t get to see the whole game, but I did see the "bonus coverage at the end of the game and the subsequent overtime victory. From what I saw it looked like we won on grit.
I see that all our NFC East teams won too. I was hoping Green Bay, The Cards, or The Steelers might help our cause but no chance. I saw the Eagles game and was shocked to see how they manhandled the Steelers. Without Westbrook, too! I’d have to say the people who said Philly was good were correct.

A W is a W
Although the Giants almost lost the game. They still had to play their hearts out. Other then a few dropped passed by the High paid Plax Burress. I thought the Gee-Men were playing a decent game. Even though it was a really close game. Like Coughlin said to the Bengals Head coach “They have a hell of a team”.
Joe L
It was good to see
Sam Madison back out on the field making plays. He may be old but I still think he can out-play Dockery (how many easy interceptions will he drop!) at the very least. Fred Robbins is a beast, I’m glad to see the defense as a whole stepping up with the absense of Osi. GMEN
Sam Madison is off his rocker… check out his site, it has a compilation of all his Sam Cam videos
