Wednesday notebook
Here are a few notes for a Wednesday morning.
- The Giants expect to get several of their injured wide receivers back on the practice field today.
- Here is the transcript of coach Tom Coughlin's Tuesday press conference.
- Mike Garafolo's 'game balls and gassers.' Kudos & Wet Willies still sounds better!
- Here is a very entertaining interview with some guy named Lawrence Taylor. Kudos to Giants Football Blog.

Off topic
But Ed, you got called out a little by Rob Neyer on his baseball blog, for a mid-season post comparing the Rays/Yankees position-by-position. Not really called out, but he mentioned the article and said it would be fun to revisit, which I did and it’s not really bad: the only position you ended up being wrong about was catcher, since Posada was hurt and Navarro turned into an all-star, and I don’t think anyone back than would have disagreed with you that the Yankees had the intangibles edge.
Anyway though, it’s pretty cool to see that you’re Yankees blog has pretty much become Neyers go-to Yankees blog, this is at least the 3rd or 4th time I’ve seen it mentioned this year. Pretty impressive. Now maybe one of the NFL dolts over at the Worldwide Leader picks up on this blog, since it’s just as well written, but it’s actually about a team that’s won something lately ;)

I love Neyer
Any time he wants to give me attention, I’ll take it. Of course, that post was not off base — but I will have to re-visit it. BTW, I hadn’t seen that yet so thanks for the heads up. For all you Yankee fans, here is Neyer’s post — and here is mine.

yea
Neyer’s pretty much my favorite baseball writer, one of the few guys who can combine the modern statistics based approach with an obvious love for actually watching the game.
By the way, just watched that LT interview, it was pretty hilarious. There’s not many guys who could pull off comparing themselves to Jordan and Tiger and then say that average guys couldn’t relate b/c they’re average, but somehow LT does it. He’s one of a kind. I also like the idea of calling Tomlinson BLT. I think I’m gonna start doing that from now on…

LT
Yeah, I thought that interview was hilarious. As time goes by, you can forget how good he was. If someone asked ‘who is the greatest living football player,’ Lawrence Taylor is not the wrong answer.

Back in action
They better be. Hixon’s looking like a starter and Moss is improving. Both have the potential to be game breakers, something you can’t say about any of the starters.

Amazing recoveries
Smith, Toomer, Manningham – all suddenly felt better when Hixon made those two catches.
I would say that Plax is 100% secure in his starting job – he’s healthy, he starts – but I said at the end of last year that I would not be surprised to see Smith starting to pressure Toomer for number 2 before the year is out – Toomer is agreat player, but how many miles does he have left? Now it looks like Hixon might be adding to the pressure

Toomer and Smith
I think we might see them split time opposite Burress – love to have Toomer’s route-running and reliability in there in on 2nd/3rd and short, at the very least, but clearly he’s not as fast as he used to be.

PS
Brandon London’s looking pretty good as well. It’ll be fascinating to see what JR does with all this talent.

Lawrence... Tynes?
I’m not sure who this “Lawrence Taylor” is that you’re talking about.

LB's
I think Tank Daniels finds his way onto the roster

Tank
Who gets cut to make room for the guy? Goff? Kehl? Blackburn? Unless there are injuries I just don’t see it.
