Exhibition schedule is a mess

Have you taken a good look at the rest of the Giants' exhibition schedule? It's utterly ridiculous.

The Giants don't play again until Monday, Aug. 18 against Cleveland. That's 12 days between games Then, the Giants play on the 18th (Cleveland), Saturday the 23rd (Jets) and Thursday the 28th (New England).

That's two exhibition games in six days and three in an 11-day span.

That is insane scheduling. I know the reserves will get most of the snaps, but I don't see how the Giants can get to the season opener against the Redskins healthy after that stretch.

On top of which, that kind of screwball schedule will make having the Giants ready for the Sept. 4 opener a real challenge for coach Tom Coughlin.

Coughlin not happy with the offense

welcome to my world, I’ve been living here along time, except for a few brief trips off planet

I finally got to see the game last night. Had a few early concerns:

1. Boss’s blocking needs alot of work
2. Corey Webster
3. Chris Carlins suit. For God sakes, you are announcing games for the Super Bowl Champions, can you buy a suit that doesn’t make you look like a guy with a cup in your hand?

LOL, obviously after the 1st preseason game I don’t worry about much

LOL

Boss does need blocking help. But, like last year, I think you will see Matthews or Johnson is many of the running situations.

Love Carlin on the radio.

You’d figure the network could send him to Joseph Banks for a new suit though and possibly set him up with a make-up type assistant , he is kind of tough to watch. Guess it’s pre season for the broadcast booth too. I’d still rather have a disheveled Carlin than Joe Buck !

We're only gonna score 17 points?

A few observations and questions

Still haven’t heard much said about Jacobs. How does he look? Are we expecting to see much more Bradshaw this year?

Interesting to see Moss look like he is coming around – I was a skeptic earlier, thinking that he wouldn’t make the team. Now I am not as sure.

Re Offense and Defense how does this compare to last year? I know in the regular season, the offense started off as a ball of fire, and the defense sucked, but how did they look in preseason? Ed, it might be interesting to look at your archive from training camp last year.

Plax’s ankle feels better, but I wonder if we’ll see him before his wallet feels better too

I think Jacobs had two carries

one for 27 yards and one for 0 yards. I think he’s OK.

Jacobs

It’s tough to judge running backs off training camp workouts. They don’t run a lot of true running plays, so all you can do is go by what you see in the games. Jacobs is a beast, and he will be fine. I loved the long run Thursday, because he made a couple of moves and made guys miss. That’s something I hope to see more of.

Jacobs

“It’s tough to judge running backs off training camp workouts. ” This comment is very true but, he did alter his style just a bit last year. I’ve noticed since last year that when he takes a side step it’s about 60/40 that hes going to be stopped in the backfield. A far cry from the “I won’t be denied” brash rookie attitude. Not that he cant be a monster back , but, I’d rather see 4-5 yards and a cloud of dust and fallen linebackers than 1 run for 27 and 1 for no gain due to the “Woolfolf sidestep”. Given his “I’ll show you” contract mentality he’ll probably be fine but hehasn’t exactly been the second coming of Czonka.

let's face it...

when it comes to your resume, Plaxico has a pretty damn good one. He played hurt, ( the man couldn’t use roughly half of his body last year, but without him we wouldn’t have a superbowl.) however, the NFL isn’t about “what have you done?” It’s about what have you done for me lately?
Plax has a point.
He IS worth more than he’s currently getting paid. But Giants’ management has a point in that he’s not worth 9 million a year if he spends it on the IR.
We already know that Drew Rosenhaus is a money-hungry bitch. His money is based on percentages and he gets a better payday on gauranteed money.
What our management would probably like is something closer to 5 mil a year laden with incentives. That’s what’s best for the team, but I think that Rosenbaus thinks that he can broker a better deal. If only Plax could learn from Jacobs… If the team has doubts then PROVE to them why they’re wrong. The Superbowl was a great thing, but we all know that Plax isn’t a one trick pony. If he thinks that he is worth more than he’s getting, he could do due diligence and show up for every practice once his injury that isn’t the same injury gets better. Until then, I can’t blame Jerry Reese. There’s a whole lot of depth at receiver, so Buress’ job isn’t that secure.

I'm wondering

if the injury is worse than he’s letting on, and that’s why he wants a new contract so badly. Maybe he thinks he won’t be able to go out there and earn it the way Jacobs plans on doing, b/c he’s gonna be hurt. Either way, I’d give him the money, because he already has earned it…he won us the freaking Super Bowl. Guy could retire tomorrow and I’d still love him forever.

Good analysis

As pot said a while back, the new injury probably resulted from the old. We can’t know what Plax can do now until he shows what he can do. An incentive-laden new contract makes sense for all concerned.
