Strahan retires
Michael Strahan has announced his retirement .
I'll do a retrospective when I have time, but for now I wanted to get the news out there for you.
It's not a surprise, but it's too bad we won't get to see No. 92, one of the greatest Giants ever, line up again.

its amazing
what a SB win will do for players reputations. i feel like Eli, Strahan and Shockey have done 180’s with their public image.

I'm not sure I see what you mean
Eli, certainly. I don’t think there was anything wrong with Strahan’s public image and I think Shockey is largely perceived (rightly or wrongly is another discussion) as badly as before.

maybe its just me
but i was pretty pissed with strahan’s off season crap, not just last years. I wouldve remembered him better regardless but w/o the sb win i feel like his divorce et al would be how he’d be remembered most. as for shockey, i think its a lot easier to hammer him for all his noise after the team went out and won the suberbowl without him. if he had contributed down the stretch, i’d be more inclined to feel sorry for him. now he just looks like an idiot. he lost all of his leverage for sympathy from fans.
so maybe not full 180’s but if tyree doesnt make that catch or 50 other little things dont go the giants way and i think its a whole different attitude about those 3 players most fans would have.

92
I had a feeling this would happen. I’m going to miss him terribly. He was the one of the few bright spots in a few dim seasons and was a true leader on the field during the good ones. I can’t blame him for going out the way he did, he couldn’t have asked for a better ending.

Next stop Canton?
Good for Mike, not many athletes get to go out a Champion
Oh and I just got handed this note:
“YAY!!!!!! Signed, Donovan McNabb”

dear Donovan:
“Don’t get too excited yet. Signed, Osi Umenyiora”
Anyway, I’m really gonna miss Strahan. He was my favorite Giant since LT, and probably one of the top 5 DE’s of all-time. I’m glad he’s going out on top, although selfishly I’d love to see him play a few more years. I can’t wait for him to go into broadcasting, I can see him becoming the NFL version of Charles Barkley, not afraid to say anything about anyone. How ironic is it that not only did he get a ring, but he’s also got a brighter future in broadcasting that Tiki?

Should Read...
“Yay, signed Jon Runyan”
Whatever, I loved Michael Strahan (that coming from a lifelong Eagle Fan)!
Much Respect.

anybody else suprised about
the is he/isn’t he a Hall of Fame talk?
i’m not saying this just as a die-hard Giants fan, but i think it’s absolutely laughable to even be questioning Strahan’s HOF status.
7-time Pro Bowler
6-time All-Pro
2001 NFL Defensive Player of the Year
2001, 2003 NFC Defensive Player of the Year
5th on the NFL’s All-Time Sack list (141 1/2)
Giants Career Sacks Leader* (technically, LT is with 142 1/2 – but his 9 1/2 aren’t counted from his rookie year because that was before they started keeping track)
One of only four players to lead the NFL in sacks in two different seasons (Gastineau, White, Green)
8 seasons of 9 sacks or more
the question isn’t whether Strahan will get into the Hall of Fame, it’s whether he’ll be a first ballot HOFer or not.

No doubt
To debate it is absolutely laughable.

who said that?
I don’t see how anyone could not think he’s Top-3 all-time. I’m biased but I say he’s the best. Forget his sack numbers, look how he got them. For the most part it wasn’t on teams that were throwing to get back in the game (cough, Dwight Freeny, Jared Allen). As the Fassel said he did bull-rushing and speed rushing. He did it with a TE double teaming him almost his entire career. And he did it while being 50 lbs heavier then most of his contemporaries, and was a fantastic run-defender.
Who on earth said he’s not a Hall of Famer, I’d like to read that.

i haven't seen anyone say that specifically
but i’ve seen a number of articles titled:
Is Strahan heading to the Hall? or Is he an All-Time great?
i will say that almost everything i’ve read has been overwhelmingly positive.

Ole gap-tooth
I’ll miss seeing him rise from under the pile, arms flexed, showing that infamous smile as he celebrates a sack.
Number ninety-two, your leadership and strength will be missed. Your on-the-field mini-celebrations will be missed. YOU, kind sir, will be missed.
We didn't even have a chance for the "perfect season", but we did have the perfect ending.
