Toomer granted spot, now who joins him?
By popular demand (an overwhelming 52-3 vote) we are conceding a spot on our All-Time Team to Amani Toomer.
So, now we start the vote over again for the second wide receiver on the team.
Vote in the poll for the receiver who will join Toomer.

Are you guys kidding me?
As I write this, Plaxico Burress is running away with the vote for the 2nd slot on our BBV All-Time Giants Team. Sorry, gang, but that’s a joke. Maybe in 5 years he’ll have a resume WITH THE GIANTS that makes him deserving, but right now, no way. I put him on the list because I knew there would be an outcry if I didn’t but there is no way he has had a better Giants career than the other four guys here. I hate to criticize BBV Nation, but you guys are way, way off base on this one.

I agree with you
I think part of the problem is that it’s really hard to separate the other guys. I voted for Homer Jones, but I really debated between him and Shofner, and considered Morrison too, but all of that is just based on what I’ve read about them, since I’ve never seen any of them play. Plax is without a doubt the best WR I’ve seen play for the Giants, so he does tend to stand out from the crowd. I don’t agree with the voting, but I can understand why it’s going that way.

It's not the first time. Ed, so don't take it so hard.
With a majority of votes being divided among so many old timers, it looks like Plax will get it. I made a last minute choice for Shofner, although in an hour I could go for Jones. He was more feared, but had a short-lived career with two bad knee injuries and played on lousy teams. Del was a standout in the Glory Years, YA’s favorite target.

I know
This vote disappoints me, though, because so many of these other names are historic figures for the Giants and should be well known. The bias toward recent/current players is natural, though. And, I do love Plax.

It'll happen again, Ed
Throw Tiki into the mix and he’ll probably get the nod like Plax. The majority of votes might go to all the others combined, but the demographics of BBVers will dictate the outcome. Quite frankly, I don’t think Plax even deserves consideration at this point based on one great year, although he has the potential to become the best Giant receiver of all time and maybe even an HOFer down the road.
Maybe, like Snee, the BBV vote will help him with his contract negotiations? As long as it doesn’t hurt the Giants, that’s okay with me.
Ah well, youth will be served (or serve itself. ) After all, Time forgot Ozymandias, King of Kings.

Tiki
I can’t argue against Tiki. Separate what he did on the field from the jerk he’s become off it, and he is the best running back in team history.

You've got a dilemma, Ed.
You say Giff should make the team as an RB, but consider Tiki as the best RB in Giants history. Where does that leave Giff? Fb is a bit of a problem area as well In the old days, two backs did the running and blocked for each other. Now, the FB is used as a battering ram (with rare exceptions, like Charles Way.) We had some good running/blocking FBs in the old days (Webster and Triplett come to mind), but….

Running backs
I know. I think I’m going to just let people vote for the best two backs, which means we don’t vote on a true fullback (sorry Joe Morrison and Charles Way). I think that’s the only way to do it. I have learned a lot from doing this All-Time Team, both about the Giants and about how to do a vote like this. This is my site, but that doesn’t mean I have to agree with every choice that gets made.
It’s been a great, fun off-season activity.

Looks like
the bias of the recent player is coming out again. I have no doubt that Plax is more talented than any receiver who’s ever played on the Giants, and in 3 more years or so he’ll legitimately deserve to be on this team, but as of right now, I don’t think he’s done enough.
Also, no love for Ike Hilliard? I know he’s not an all-time great, but he was a pretty solid receiver for the Giants, and actually put up better numbers than I remembered: 368 receptions, 4,630 yards, 27 TDs in a little over 7 seasons. In ‘99 and 2000 he was actually really good, 4 yards away from 1,000 in ‘99, and less yards but more TD’s in 2000.

Right
When he’s done, Plax may well belong. As for Hilliard, a good player but not a historic one. I am loving a lot of this debate—the best players and ‘jrs’ look at the worst. It’s really jogging people’s memories, and that’s great stuff.

Did you vote for Plax?
If Plax wins, that’s fine. I don’t think he should, but so be it. I was just amazed he was winning in a runaway.

Plax
It is surprising, though, that no one has really stepped up and defended voting for Burress.

Not me...
I voted for Schofner…..Tittle to Schofner was a great combination. Like others I think Plax may be ultimately remembered as the best but his time has not yet arrived for that.
Hiliard could have been great but he just couldn’t stop breaking his leg.

Interesting
Now this vote is getting close. As I type, Plax is one vote ahead of Homer Jones. No matter who wins, it’s good to see a broad spectrum of players across eras getting support.
by ETVal on Jun 30, 2008 11:34 AM EDT 0 recs
Damn, I could have seen the way it would go,
I would have voted for Homer, not Del. They were so close that taking one over another was like flipping a coin. Let’s hope Plax’s career is such that he’ll become as easy a choice as Amani.

Homer
Yeah, I did the same thing George….and I feel the same way. Homer might have been a shoe in if he hadn’t had such a short career.

Homer
What I remember about Homer Jones was that he was fast, but couldn’t run a route other than straight ahead to save his life.
He also had HUGE hands
