A little Bavaro video for you

On the heels of the Phil Simms-Mark Bavaro Hall of Fame post the other day, '57 asked for some Bavaro video. Thanks to the wonders of YouTube, here is a montage of Simms to Bavaro completions. I was pumped up after watching it, and I think you will be, too.

Ditto for me!

Played hard, never a whiner, didn’t drop too many(that didn’t land in McConkeys’ hands).

We're only gonna score 17 points?

Dear Mr. Shockey,

I think it would be a good idea for you to watch this video, maybe even several times. Not because you are overrated (as another post maintains) or an underachiever. You already have more receptions than Mark Bavaro. I think you should watch it so you can understand the reference point against which you are now judged. Sure, your personality is different. You’re outgoing; Mark was pretty quiet. You can electrify the fans with your ability to make extra yards after the catch, just as the video shows Bavaro doing. I’ll never forget your first catch as a Giant, in a preseason game, when you gave a tackler a forearm and then made another 20 yards. That was the moment when Giants fans came to believe that the career of Mark Bavaro, cruelly shortened by injury, may have been extended. You’ve had your injury problems too. We, the fans, realize that and that it’s unfair to expect you to be the reincarnation of Mark Bavaro. But the thing that I think bothers most fans is the perception that you’re not a team player. I’m sure you believe you are totally dedicated to the team, and you probably are. But when fans hear about you not training with other team members, or running poor routes, or missing passes because you and Eli were thinking different things, we get frustrated. Maybe we’re wrong to think that way, but watch the video and you’ll see what we’ve come to believe is the consummate tight end and the consummate Giant.

Thanks Ed....

Those carries are truly electrifying!

By the way, did you notice how well Phil looked? He might not be HOF but he was damn good! I had forgotten how well he stood in the pocket.

It was fun

to look back at that stuff. I am going to make it a point to post more videos the remainder of the off-season.

It's amazing how much Jacobs runs like Bavaro.

I hope J has more luck with his knees. Runners who refuse to go down or who run over defenders don’t seem to last long. There are exceptions, like Jim Taylor and John Henry Johnson. Even Earl Campbell;s career was cut short by injury. When Jim Brown was a commentator he used to rag on Franco Harris because he’d go out of bounds rather than take the hit. Maybe Harris knew what he was doing. He lasted a long time.

Watching that clip

you could see why Bavaro got hurt. Running over and through guys like that he was bound to eventually get his knees all torn up. It’s too bad. If he had stayed healthy, maybe he could have been the LT of tight ends.

Oh man

The guy had GRIT.

We didn't even have a chance for the "perfect season", but we did have the perfect ending.

I'm pretty sure

that having my dad point out bavaro highlights to me when i was in kindergarten is when i first learned that football is fucking awesome.

Wow! That got me psyched up for the season.

That is what I love about the Giants; players and plays like Mark Bavaro use to make. I never feel like the Giants are the most talented team on the field and frankly, they always seem to lose when I think they are more talented than the other team, but I digress.

The grit. The Effort. Amazing. Watching him get his knees high (just like Jacobs does) and braking tackles is inspiring.

You just know defenders feared getting hit by him, just like the brace themselves for Jacobs.

Thanks for the video.
