Thomas makes good first impression
Very nice article about Terrell Thomas , the USC cornerback drafted in the second round by the Giants, in Newsday the other day.
It is way too soon, of course, to be putting Thomas in the Pro Bowl. He did have an impressive weekend at mini-camp, though, and from his comments you can see why the Giants think he fits in their secondary.
"I hate playing off," he said. "I can do it, but I love being in a receiver's face, challenging him."
That is exactly the type of aggressive attitude defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo is looking for.
The Thomas pick raised eyebrows, since he was relatively unnoticed at USC and has a history of injuries. The more I learn about him, however, the more I think he has a chance to be a very good player for the Giants.

Thomas Insight
I have watched this guy for a couple of years. He was unheralded and plays a lot of press-man. More quick than fast. Not likely, but susceptible to getting burned deep, because he is pretty rough off the line (at least in the PAC-10). Not sure how his strength is going to translate to the pros. The article makes it sound like it will translate well.
Because he is strong and aggressive, I thought he was a good fit for the Spags system.
I also though Will Allen and William Peterson were great picks too. Tells you what I know.

LOL!
The reality is none of us knows a darn thing until these guys get on the field - in real games that matter - and succeed or fail.

A lot of people thought the two Wills would be great.
When they were drafted, the Giants were looking for quick, speedy guys to keep up with quick, speedy receivers. Now there are more tall, rangy receivers who overpower short guys like the two Wills.

Thomas
actually sounds a bit like the corner formerly known as Will Peterson. Physical aggressive…..........often injured. Hope he’s healthier in the pros. I guess Aaron Ross was able to come back fairly quickly after his dislocated shoulder , maybe this kid can hold up too.
We're only gonna score 17 points?

We need
to hope so. The Giants can use all the help they can get at corner. Madison’s had a good career, and Webster was great in the playoffs, but Ross is really the only guy on the corner I have complete faith in right now.

i could be wrong
But I believe it was a misdiagnosis of Peterson’s injury that led to his career almost ending.
