Never 'need' to lose
But, it won’t be the end of the world if we do. That’s the nice thing about where we are now.

no we need to lose next week
will be really hard to beat boys 3 times so rather win this week lose next week and crash back to earth like against the browns

play calling not good right now

Play calling has us going sideways not forward. They seem to have forgotten
the exact location of the goal line.

Slow start
to this one. We’ll see where it goes. The Manningham reverse backfired, that’s for sure.

There's a good run.
Maybe they were testing the waters earlier to see the response from the Eagle’s D.

excellent work by Gilbride so far...
2 and 1, two consecutive sweeps….brilliant, dont we have the biggest RB in the league?

Iggles had 10 days to game plan
so maybe Gildbride’s trying hard (maybe a little too hard) to mix it up and deviate from the G-Men’s regular game plan…

A loss right now might not be the worse thing
except for the barrage of “they cant with w/o Burress” stories sure to follow, but it could refocus them like after cleveland

Reality check
That play at the end of the half was great, but we still aren’t getting any pressure on McNabb, and we still haven’t done squat offensively. So I hope that didn’t just serve to mask what has actually been a pretty putrid performance today so far.

Play-calling
always looks horrible when you play badly and stuff doesn’t work. Would have looked a lot better if the Giants made some catches.
by Ed Valentine on Dec 7, 2008 4:02 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
My wife just told me that when Hixon didn't make the catch
that was the turning point of the game.
That’s my bright spot today. That she knows wtf she’s talking about. When we got marreid 5 years ago she had no idea what a football was.

This is not the end of the world at all.
In fact, it might be good to get this out of our system and refocus. I was starting to worry – in the same way that Alan Greenspan was worried about the US paying off the national debt back in 2001 (ha ha) – that we would clinch the home field and have 3 weeks with nothing to do but stay fresh. Next week’s game is actually going to be pretty important now. I’d hate to have to go into that last week not having sown anything up yet.

Maybe Gilbride is thinking ahead to a possible coaching job.
I heard he is being considered somewhere. Man, our 4th and one was just as bad as the Eagles one last time we played them.

I did not
understand that play call at all. Ah well, can’t win ’em all.
by Ed Valentine on Dec 7, 2008 4:16 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Ed, not to pour it on...
…But today’s game is a PRIME example as to why the Giants have been winning in spite of Gilbride. Granted, there were some several execution failures (Steve Smith critical 3rd down drop, Hixon’s drop on the bomb) – however: Gilbride really blew this one today. His play calling was brutal. The pass on 4th and half a yard? And not sticking to the run and playing to his strengths on a day when you had gusts of up to 35mph? Just a brutal, poor play-calling night out of Gilbride.
But I will take the division as a result of the day nonetheless. …..Again, the Giants won the NFC E in spite of Gilbride, not because of him.
by Cody K on Dec 7, 2008 7:47 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Don't go crazy here
It’s one loss. And Gilbride did not have a good day. But, I still say he has an awful lot of good things this season that he deserves credit for.

What a stinker.
I agree with Mr. Met and bren and hope the team has gotten all the bad football out of its system. I think few of us expected a 15-1 regular season.

i've never seen that before
a letdown game at home, in December, against a division opponent? what a suprrise!
but seriously, no need for the tin foil hats. Philly was the desperate team today, and it showed. however, just like the Cleveland game, this loss can be beneficial in the long-run. i think what everyone realized after today’s game is that as far as Eli has come, Gilbride needs to realize that running the ball is the best option when there are wind gusts over 70 mph. the game reminded me of last year’s matchup with Washington, a lot – especially the 4th and 1 spread play (yikes). since the Giants are likely heading for a bye and a divisional game at home, let’s hope Mother Nature throws us a bone.
also, this team will miss Plax. i like the way Smith, Hixon, etc. have stepped up, but with Plax the Giants probably win the game. he absolutely shreds the Eagles.
hope for the following things: 1) the Eagles don’t make a miracle run to the playoffs (highly unlikely with games at Washington and vs. Dallas remaining, 2) Cowboys lose today and an NFC South team (Carolina? Atlanta?) somehow beats them out for the Wild Card spots, 3) Carolina wins Monday Night (they have a tougher road than TB – DEN, @NYG, @NO), 4) AP doesn’t go to jail.
go Giants.

I really wish
you hadn’t said the Giants win if Plax plays. I think the Giants win if Hixon and Smith don’t drop those two passes, period.

Plax's career with NYG vs. Philly
8 games, 37 rec, 650 yds, 8 TD.
i’m bitter about what Plax did too, but i think the numbers speak for themselves.

HE is an Eagle killer for sure.
ALthough Westbrook is a GIant killer.
Frankly, I thought the PLaxico situation did hurt the Giants but not because they missed him. Because it looks it affected Pierce. He was horrible.
by JasonB on Dec 7, 2008 6:04 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Pierce
It’s funny. He winds up with 15 tackles, and he had that many exactly because he was indeed HORRIBLE. The Eagles simply ran right at him all day, and threw the ball at him all day, and he couldn’t do a thing about it.
by Ed Valentine on Dec 7, 2008 8:02 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
We're going to miss the guy
No doubt he is an idiot but he is a tremendous wide reciever and adds a special dimension to our offense when he’s on the field. Let’s not pretend that it’s good he’s gone.

Two more regular season goals then, bye and home field, though I’m not so sure if home field is really that great for us!

After this game,
you’ll have an easy time handing out Wet Willies, Ed. Kudos? I’m waiting to see if you award any. The thing that most disappointed me was those time-consuming drives the Eagles executed in the second half.

I listened to the game on Giants.com
Since I didn’t get the game here in SC. I have figured out a pretty good setup. I set my desktop to Giants.com and put on my wireless headphones. Then I go to the other room and watch whatever I can get locally on my bigscreen, sometimes using picture in picture to watch two games on low volume while I listen to Bob and Carl on the headphones. Believe it or not after a few weeks of doing that I am starting to assimilate everything and it has become a peasant experience for me.
Except of course when we lose……
By the way, Carl banks is an excellent color man. He makes a lot of incredibly unbiased and insightful comments leading me to believe he needs to be on our sideline coaching.
