Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

Bright Lights, Big City. G-Men Have The Spotlight.

The Burress commentary continues to thrive regardless of the fact that most Giant fans and football fans are over it. ESPN and the New York print media will not let this story die and lets be honest, this is the hot button story right now financial crisis be damned. The Burress aspect of the story is done until March, more than a month after the SuperBowl champion is crowned. What will be debated now is whether or not the Giants win the SuperBowl without Burress.

Star-divide

You could make the argument that the entire world of sports will now focus its' attention on the Giants, to scrutinize them much more closely over the next four weeks and the playoffs, than this team is used to handling. The Giants are now the media's "America's Team" for all the wrong reasons.

Can this bunch of players handle this kind of national focus? Will Eli be able to take the offensive superstar role now that Burress is out? These are the questions that will irritate and infuriate Giant fans for the rest of this season and the playoffs. ESPN personalities are now more than ready to declare the Giants the best team in football and it seems now with gunshots and arrests that the Giants have gained the "sex" appeal that the media craves.

Tom Coughlin must be seething at the mass global media satellites currently parked in and around Giants stadium. He must be an absolute maniac behind closed doors because the only distraction the players are experiencing, are the questions and the flashing lights of the media. Coughlin detests the media and any type of distraction from the football field.

That said, the Burress debacle may serve as the impetus, in fact may be germane to this team winning the SuperBowl.

The Giants organization from top to bottom, thrives on absolute hatred for those who doubt their ability. I believe that this team is literally burning to get on the field and attack whomever is in their way. I fully believe that the Giants are determined to win back-to-back Championships and begin to cement themselves in history as one of the great NFL teams ever to play.

The players want that and Coughlin wants it too. The Coach has showed the team tapes of Jordan and the Chicago Bulls second NBA Championship run to get them focused on the meaning every game has on their legacy. I don't believe for one second that the Plaxico Burress crisis will hinder this team. I think it just makes them angry.

We all know they play better when they're angry. Now the world is watching and they have a more formidable opponent than Tom Brady and the 18-0 Patriots. If the Giants win the SuperBowl this team will have overcome all the obstacles that are supposed to ruin teams for good.

The spotlight is on, the stage is set.
