Spags' on Lions, Browns lists
[UPDATE: You can now add the Jets to the list of teams who want to talk to Spags.]
NFL.com is reporting that the Detroit Lions want to talk with Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. The Cleveland Browns also appear interested.
Well, we knew this was coming. We don't have to like it, but we do have to face it.

ESPN is reporting
That the Jets will ask to speak to Spags also. The NYG had better start thinking about a new DC

I would
greatly appreciate Spags not to listen to offers during the bye. I believe he owes it to the fans but more importantly his players. This defense is clearly on the rise. We’ve been able to mask our lack of a pass rush with good containment and a secondary playing far better than I imagined in the beginning of the year. These players will lay it all for him on this repeat ride. To have him thinking beyond this month wouldn’t really be the TEAM first mentality, Coughlin and Spags have preached. These teams will be there in a month when he can prob make more money (if my dreams come true). Don’t talk, scheme.

That's nonsense
They don’t even know who they are playing, so you can’t game plan. If he is interested in someday becoming a head coach and he takes an interview you can’t hold that against the guy. If it was you, you would take an interview. I would take an interview. Everyone would take an interview. We all like to try and better our positions in life.

I understand
Et as the players prob do.Football is a business at the end of the day. All I’m asking is he ends his tenure as a Giant with some class. And just b/c he doesn’t know who he’s playing doesn’t mean he can’t work on things. He doesn;t have to scheme like I suggested but he can do other things. It’s not like the coaches take the week off entirely and just sit at home waiting for wild card sat n sun. Any good or great coach knows there is always work to be done. I won’t hold it against him if he does do him and listen to offers but it would be great if he just waited till the end. I mean do you really think he will cry if misses out on the Lions job? Or the Browns? The Skins were closer to a complete team at the same time last yr, than either of those clubs.

I'm sure even Coughlin doesn't have a problem with this.
It’s just part of football. Spags is a big boy and has proven his commitment to the Giants. It would be selfish for us to try to dictate how he pursues his career.

Yank,
I totally agree with you. But these guys told me that for reasons I can’t fathom, if owners can’t speak to candidates RIGHT NOW, before the playoffs, they won’t hire them. It sucks but I guess that’s the way they do business. Personally I think the NFL should have a rule barring guys from interviewing between Week 1 and the end of their teams’ season. I want the best for Spags, I just want 100% of his service and time to be with the Giants until the season ends.
I’ll say it again, I think he goes to the Jets. You’d figure the Browns had enough of Giants DCs, and Detroit, God forbid. That front office has already showed its hand, that its not going to make the complete overhaul they need in order to win. If we see Spags with New York’s minor league affiliate next year, and David Carr at QB, I expect triple points!
You play to win the game!
