"I hate you asked that question. The politically correct thing to say is they're a great combination of running backs -- really good backs. And they are. But based on the film, of the 300 yards, let's say, uh, 250 were on us. That's how I'll answer that question."

Lol
I love the block in OT, when I think Suebert stuffed him, to set up D Wards ridiculously clutch run.

This was for Panther fans
That comment was not intended for you. You should never have the attitude that you are not as good. You should always look at what you should and could have done better. Otherwise we’d lose every time. With Beason’s attitude the Panthers can come back in January improved, with a chip on their shoulder.

Same garbage the Cardinals were saying AFTER the game.

We ripped off some big runs
Which get the total up to 300 pretty quickly. It also eats at the soul of a defender who has “bend but dont break” beaten into their heads. A 5 yard run is earned, a 30 yard run means someone missed an assignment and the defense feels like they gave it to us.
Still, BJ wore them out… no wonder they were making mistakes.

30-yard runs aren't earned?
you might want to tell that to Jacobs and Ward, or to Barry Sanders.

The first 5-10 usually are
the rest are bad tackling, a saftey taking a bad angle, someone not filling the gap (thats what she said)
D in the NFL is all about bend but dont break. Stop what you think is coming and have someone there to cover your ass in case its someone else. Considering its 11 on 10 out there (eli isnt running anywhere) the D should have a hat on a hat, and when someone gets away like that… its on the D. Dont get me wrong, the running backs make someone miss or BJ plows through someone… but even then there is supposed to be a Safety there to keep it from turning into a big play. Thats where they get their name.

What was the question?
In any case, I don’t have a problem here. Saying “Jacobs and Ward are really good” is like saying “there wasn’t anything we could do” – it’s an excuse. Saying what he said basically means, “we had an opportunity to make plays and we didn’t play well enough.” If I were a Carolina fan, that’s the attitude I’d want my guys to have.

Here it is
After blaming sloppy play and poor communication on the Panthers’ inability to stop the Giants’ running game, Beason was asked if the talents of Ward and backfield mate Brandon Jacobs might have had something to do with it.

I'm back... but briefly
Jacobs earned every single one of his yards. He had 3 -4 Panthers on his back carrying them. I don’t think Beason could do anything about it. But much of Ward’s yards were obviously missed assignments and shabby tackling. But Beason shouldn’t be surprised… the Panther D has sucked almost every week on the road. It’s just this time they sucked against a really good running game.

By that logic
You could argue that Steve Smith’s great success finding a way to constantly be open is merely bad coverage rather than any talent on his part.

Getting open is on him
Run after the catch is on the safety. If the DB is left on an island, its because the other team is pass rushing… therefore if Smith beats the guy one on one, the DL is responsible for ever letting that pass get thrown.
Coaches know this. They know you cant plan for a home run, or draw up a special “this is going to go for 80 yards” play. Granted those plays happen, and they look for weaknesses in coverage, but the reason coaches dont get too excited is they know not to take it for granted. The D made a mistake and the offense took advantage. When the attack a player (AP) its because hes prone to blowing his assignment be it because he has bad cover skills (Roy Williams) or is too slow to hang with a receiver.

OK, Jon.
Then I guess it would be fair to say that if Osi wasn’t on IR. if Tuck wasn’t vomiting his guts out on the field and Plax wasn’t suspended, we would have beaten you in regulation. But I won’t, since it’s Christmas. Have a merry, everyone.
