rest starters or not

the giants and coach coughlin (and probably reese) have a huge decision to make for this weekends game against minnesota.

what to do with their starters?

obviously i think they rest brandon jacobs but what about everyone else do we rest them in case of injuries (but then we have to look back on the bucs last year) or do we start them and take a risk

another factor i believe is who the giants would rather have in the postseason the bears or the vikings i believe that can be a big factor in the decision

who would you rather in the postseason?

what do you guys have to say???

I say play everyone

but Jacobs and maybe Tuck. I don’t want to see anyone get hurt, but I hate, hate, hate when teams rest their players the last week or two of the season after locking up a bye. Look at the Giants last year – that game propelled them to the Super Bowl. Meanwhile, teams like the Colts, who’ve rested their starters every year except 2006, and in every year but 2006 they’ve come out flat in the playoffs. In 2006, they played the starters down to the very end, and guess what, they won the Super Bowl.

Well

what usually happens is the team plays the starters for a series or 2 or maybe even a half and then pull em out. I say rest Tuck. He is the single most important factor on our D Line. We sink or swim with him. With lower leg injury, and a lost step he deserves 2 weeks off. Rest his ass. And anyone else who normally would miss the game. Put Jacobs in for a half, whether its the 1st or 2nd. Have Ahmad get a handful of carries and allow Ward to hit 1000 yrds. Eli plays beginning to end. Then he goes home to stay with his low profile wife while drinking their wine on WC Sat n Sun. He might even invite Kevin Boss w/ his significant other.

i say play everyone for the first half

and keep eli in into the third.. and then put in manningham, moss, carr, bradshaw… but also this game against minnesota is big because we’ve had such awful games against them the past few years— this is like a transition point where we can face our demons, beat minnesota, and in doing so maybe even knock them out of the playoffs with a chicago win against houston. remember… 41-10 last year. a win against the vikings is the same type of statment that going all out against the pats last year was, in my mind.

I guess I'm sentimental

But I would be sure Ward got enough carries to get his 60 yards. After that? Well I agree on Tuck. Let McDougle play his last game as a Giant and see if he’s better than Wynn and Tollefson. Also, I’d give Manningham and Moss (if healthy) another go just to get some data for next year’s decisions.

You have to be careful in a situation like this. One week of rest is good. Two weeks can lead to rust.

BANGED UP GUYS REST. EVERYONE ELSE PLAYS.

There is no way Coughlin is going to rest all the starters. On offense Jacobs,Hixon, and probably McKenzie will rest. On defense Tuck, BIG FRED, and Ross will take the extra time and get ready for the divisional game. The only playoff scenario that scares me right now is Dallas coming to the Meadowlands for revenge from last year when they were the top dog.

You said it all man

in the first seven words. But hey TC’s gonna do what he’s gotta do.

As far as who we want in the playoffs, I don’t think it matters. I’d be shocked if Minnesota or Chicago or Arizona could win at home against Tampa Gay, Dallas, Atlanta, and certainly not Carolina… Ariz is cooked, sez I, thus giving them a chance, by either Carolina or ATL, one of them must be the 5 seed i believe.
That leaves the North winner to face TB, DAL, or possibly the Eagles… this is a more competitive game. As fans we should be hoping for the weakest possible team to make the 3 seed. Because if 3 loses to 6 we don’t have to play the 5 seed, likely to be CAR/ATL.
I’d so much rather play any other team in the NFC. Obviously DAL or PHI are capable of beating us. But I don’t think they will. I watched MNF and the Bears do not have a dynamic offense, although their special teams have been stellar for years and they could easily burn us for 7 in a matchup. As far as how we match up with MIN, well, we’ll find out next week.
Best case scenario, we lay 28 points on MIN midway through the 2nd quarter and then TC can reasonably start pulling guys.
Here’s my playoff wish which will probably be smashed horribly before the playoffs even begin:
Philly beats Dallas, but TB wins! HA HA EGGS AND GIRLS.
CHI beats TB and ARIZ beats ATL (barely possible, impossible.)
Then Arizona stuns Chicago to set up an NFC conf. Champ. between NYG and the worst playoff team ever. The Giants end the season with an incredible SB victory over… the JETS!

Why Dallas ?

Regardless of the fact that their organization is a joke and its starting to show on the field, they still have more offensive firepower than anyone else we could face in the divisional round. The extra motivation to beat us as the #1 seed on our home field makes them the scariest team we could face in my opinion. Not to mention it would take all my will power not to jump from the 300 level if we were to be eliminated by the Cow-hoaxes.

not crazy

Hateful. I’d take the tougher challenge for the bigger payoff. It’s worth the heightened risk, can you imagine sending DAL home AGAIN! OH GOOD LORD I JUST SPRUNG A WOODY

id agree with your NFC

maybe Chicago ahead of Arizona (that’s how bad the Cards have been).

gotta put the Colts at least #3 on your AFC list. they won at Pittsburgh, beat Baltimore 31-3 and beat New England.

You're probably right about the Cards, they've been suckin.

I just see Da Bears as having no offense and an average . Too bad we never got Briggs.
I guess the Colts have gotten back to full strength and that makes a big difference, but I don’t really see them contending. I’ll acknowledge they could beat the Pats. But the Patriots have been on an absolute tear (against middling opposition but still, they’re firing on all cylinders) and honestly I feel Baltimore is more of a threat to go deep in the playoffs than either NE or Indy…

In the AFC

the Bronks are garbage. They have to beat SD this weekend on the road to win the div after loosing at home to Buffalo
