that egg
might cost me my fantasy matchup – I have Cotchery and Keller.
How is it even possible to only score 3 points against the Seahawks?
by cjmulrain on Dec 21, 2008 6:50 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Its simple
They are the Jets
They will always be the Jets, and there aren’t enough Brett Favres in the world to change that.

touche
but obesity aside, CC can pitch past the 7th inning, something Johan can’t refuses to do (thought with Putz and K-Rod, that may not matter anymore).
this great Giants season has made the long wait for baseball a lot easier.

I would argue
That the past two seasons aside, the Mets have had more success than the Jets

Yeah but not all of us are.
So I would like to encourage you to take all your Mets/Jets comparisons and stick them in a sack, mister!
That was my super-nice version of what I really would like to say.

haha
I actually think that distinction is blurring a little bit, since the Jets and Giants no longer play in Shea/Yankee Stadiums. I had a lot of friends growing up who were either Mets/Giants or Yankees/Jets, it was weird.
My theory is that you shouldn’t be allowed to root for both the Mets and the Jets: too much heartbreak. You should have to pick the winning franchise in at least one of the sports…
by cjmulrain on Dec 21, 2008 7:19 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
The Mets are gonna do it this year.
They could easily have done it in 06, should easily have done it in 07, and would easily have done it in 08. So there’s nothing left but to actually do it in 09.
I’m not one of those NY fans that like to revel in the Yankees or Jets losing, but I always feel worse for the Jets when they go down every year. This year will be worse than most because of Pennington coming back and Favre doing his Diva dance.

I agree
re the Mets. But then, I’ve felt that way going into the past 3 seasons, so we’ll see. We’ve had the best team on paper for 3 seasons now, it’s time for them to put up.
And almost everyone in my family are Jets fans, so I generally root for them unless they’re playing the Giants, or in the very-rare scenario where them losing would help the Giants.

The Eagles and Cowboys
are proving how worthless “momentum” is. It’s a made-up word in this sport, IMO. And it’s exactly why I’m confident that the Giants will be playing a game in Tampa Bay in a few weeks, regardless of the last 2 games.
by cjmulrain on Dec 21, 2008 6:59 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
I think momentum
Is more prevalent in sports like hockey and baseball, where you play every day or every other day.
Westbrook just limped off, what a surprise
Giants fan from the womb to the tomb
by Jim Schmiedeberg on Dec 21, 2008 7:04 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
definitely in hockey
basketball too I think. With baseball, I agree that there is momentum in terms of players, but it’s still day-to-day as far as which pitchers are on the mound. Your team can be hitting the crap out of the ball, but if you send Barry Zito out to the mound, you’re still probably gonna lose…
by cjmulrain on Dec 21, 2008 7:09 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
You mean like, when CC Sabathia eats a cheeseburger
and then he eats a turducken, and then he eats a box of cupcakes, he still has the momentum to go ahead and scarf down a live hog?

Good news
Eagles are still technically alive, so they have a reason to play Dallas tough next week. And Tampa plays Oakland, I believe, so they should win. If Tampa and Philly both win, Tampa makes the playoffs, and Eagles, Cowboys, and Redskins all get to watch us defend our title from home.

Giants only have 4 WR’s active tonight, and one of them is “Wrong Way” Manningham. I’d expect to see alot of Bradshaw lined up as a wideout, if weather permits the Giants to try and spread the field.

if you put Pierce’s brain into some other guys body (I’m blanking on physically talented but disappointing MLB’s right now, but I know there’s a bunch out there), you’d have Ray Lewis 2.0. Unfortunately, he’s just not a very talented physical player (in relation to other NFL players. He’s got more talent in his pinky than I have in my whole body)

He is very overrated as a pure talent. His recognition skills get him a ton of tackles not his physical ability. That being said, he is going to be a great backer coach one day.

Jacobs
scored in the red zone. It’s an interesting point. Tony Gonzalez would look real nice as a goal line target right around now. I love Reese, but he dropped the ball on that one. First mistake he’s made as GM. When one of the top 3 TE’s in the league is available for a lower pick than you got when you traded your disgruntled, overrated TE, you make that trade.

um, big difference between scoring and Red Zone offense
the Giants were 27th in the NFL in Red Zone offense going into Halloween weekend (13 TD, 14 FG in 31 trips) and that was with Plax.

Updated Giants Red Zone offense stats
19th in the NFL entering this week (2 trips: TD, FG).
61 trips, 31 TD, 24 FG = 50.8% TD pct.
as a refernece point, the Colts (a dominant Red Zone team for years) have converted 70% of their Red Zone opportunities into touchdowns…and that’s with the 31st rated rush offense in the league.

The numbers say that but the results say that the Giants score and that they score
in the top half of the league. They have had a lot of success regardless of those numbers so exactly what is the tangible impact of those stats when you take into account this team has made the playoffs 5 years straight won a superbowl, won their division twice and are 11-3?

Madden's annoying
but I agree with him about this. Running out of the shotgun is great once in a while, but it’s been way overused lately. And lately, I feel like on 3rd and short, if a team lines up in shotgun, you KNOW it’s gonna be a run.

not in the red zone.
I’ll admit, I’m biased against it b/c of 4 years at Delaware, where for one of those years we had a great QB and won the national championship, and the other 3 years were spend watching them run the ball into the line from the shotgun draw for 3 plays, then punt. It got very frustrating.

i'll take my chances later in the game
say the Giants didn’t get it, Carolina kicks a FG here to make the score 24-19. Giants come back and score a TD, then they’re forced to go for 2 again to try to push the lead back to three, something they would’ve had if they had just kicked the extra point in the first place.
there have been hundreds of times where that has happened.
by SBakerTheTouchdownMaker on Dec 21, 2008 10:29 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Going for 2
In that situation, if the giants go for 2 and fail, a 7 by Carolina makes it a 2 score game. Coughlin knew that by putting up the 1, if Caroline put up 7 more it would still be a 6+2 game. And it just so happened to work exactly that way.

Looked like Toomer ran into a wall
on that play.

the thing that worries me is
the Giants are getting into a position where they will HAVE to go for two if they score

that was such an obvious face gard
that it had to be called
by DoctorK16 on Dec 21, 2008 10:58 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
that absolutely has to be a flag
absolutely has to be. Hixon got raped on that play.
by SBakerTheTouchdownMaker on Dec 21, 2008 10:58 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
FINALLY
a flag. The DB has to actually impregnate our receiver to get it called.

WHAT THE HELL
WHAT IS THIS YELLOW LAUNDRY PEOPLE ARE THROWING ON TO THE FIELD?
IT LOOKS SORT OF LIKE A SOCK OR SOMETHING…SOMEONE EXPLAIN! ARE THE GIANTS FANS THROWING DIRTY CLOTHES AT PEOPLE NOW?
by Caseys Kiss of Death on Dec 21, 2008 10:58 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Now go for 2?
I think you have too now.

tie game. BTW, how can a team go 15 games w/out a pass interference penalty the way games are called now? That’s crazy.

no wonder they've been grabbing and holding so much
they’ve never been punished for it.

So, yeah… time to step up.
by cmkelly29 on Dec 21, 2008 11:01 PM EST reply actions 0 recs

That was a gutsy drive. It is nice to see this offense in full gear and doing the right things in the red zone.

could have run that in for two. Now, how about some DEEEEEEFENSE!!!!

A play that clutch brings back memories of
Kent Graham and Dave Brown…
Oh wait..
by cmkelly29 on Dec 21, 2008 11:02 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
One of my fav jokes from that era...
Dave Brown was sitting down to Thanksgiving dinner with his family.
His uncle asked Dave to pass the gravy.
Dave passes the gravy…
AND IT’S PICKED! COUSIN LEONARD IS TAKING THIS ONE BACK FOR 6!
by cmkelly29 on Dec 21, 2008 11:05 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
haha
come on, be fair to Kent Graham. He did have that one hail mary against Denver that earned him a whole extra season as a starter
by cjmulrain on Dec 21, 2008 11:04 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I'm supposed to credit Graham
when the only thing he did for us was make one play that made us put up with him longer?

Can we please ever cover a kick?
by long time listener on Dec 21, 2008 11:02 PM EST reply actions 0 recs

I really want someone who can just kick it straight through the back of the endzone.

possible topics to be discussed in the coming weeks
why not cut Tynes and sign someone that can kick-off? i know Carney is old, but hasn’t he proved that good kickers can be found off the scrap heap? i think it’s something that should at least be considered.
by SBakerTheTouchdownMaker on Dec 21, 2008 11:05 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Tynes isn't much of an upgrade
if at all. he’s been bad too.
by SBakerTheTouchdownMaker on Dec 21, 2008 11:07 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
he kicked one game
in a bad wind game. I’m inclined to think he’s better than Carney on kickoffs

Gutsy of the NFL
to run a commercial that reminds us of the epic-hosing the Chargers endured against the Broncos on the horrid call that may still cost them big.
