That egg you see.....

that egg

might cost me my fantasy matchup – I have Cotchery and Keller.

How is it even possible to only score 3 points against the Seahawks?

by cjmulrain on Dec 21, 2008 6:50 PM EST up reply actions

Its simple

They are the Jets

They will always be the Jets, and there aren’t enough Brett Favres in the world to change that.

just like the Mets

or anything else that ends with “ets”. always the step-child.

(i apologize in advance for pissing anyone off…)

ouch

whatever, I sleep well at night know our $160 million dollar pitcher is much less likely to eat himself out of the majors in 5 years than yours.

touche

but obesity aside, CC can pitch past the 7th inning, something Johan can’t refuses to do (thought with Putz and K-Rod, that may not matter anymore).

this great Giants season has made the long wait for baseball a lot easier.

I would argue

That the past two seasons aside, the Mets have had more success than the Jets

Giants fan from the womb to the tomb

by Jim Schmiedeberg on Dec 21, 2008 7:08 PM EST up reply actions

agreed

i only lumped them together because a majority of Jets fans are Mets fans.

by SBakerTheTouchdownMaker on Dec 21, 2008 7:12 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah but not all of us are.

So I would like to encourage you to take all your Mets/Jets comparisons and stick them in a sack, mister!

That was my super-nice version of what I really would like to say.

by Mr. Met on Dec 21, 2008 7:17 PM EST up reply actions

haha

I actually think that distinction is blurring a little bit, since the Jets and Giants no longer play in Shea/Yankee Stadiums. I had a lot of friends growing up who were either Mets/Giants or Yankees/Jets, it was weird.

My theory is that you shouldn’t be allowed to root for both the Mets and the Jets: too much heartbreak. You should have to pick the winning franchise in at least one of the sports…

by cjmulrain on Dec 21, 2008 7:19 PM EST up reply actions

The Mets are gonna do it this year.

They could easily have done it in 06, should easily have done it in 07, and would easily have done it in 08. So there’s nothing left but to actually do it in 09.

I’m not one of those NY fans that like to revel in the Yankees or Jets losing, but I always feel worse for the Jets when they go down every year. This year will be worse than most because of Pennington coming back and Favre doing his Diva dance.

Watch me paste this pathetic palooka with a powerful paralyzing perfect pachyderms percussion pitch.

by Mr. Met on Dec 21, 2008 7:23 PM EST up reply actions

I agree

re the Mets. But then, I’ve felt that way going into the past 3 seasons, so we’ll see. We’ve had the best team on paper for 3 seasons now, it’s time for them to put up.

And almost everyone in my family are Jets fans, so I generally root for them unless they’re playing the Giants, or in the very-rare scenario where them losing would help the Giants.

by cjmulrain on Dec 21, 2008 7:27 PM EST up reply actions

I won't believe anything about the Mets

Until they do it, I am so tired of seeing the Mets win World Series in December

The Eagles and Cowboys

are proving how worthless “momentum” is. It’s a made-up word in this sport, IMO. And it’s exactly why I’m confident that the Giants will be playing a game in Tampa Bay in a few weeks, regardless of the last 2 games.

by cjmulrain on Dec 21, 2008 6:59 PM EST reply actions

I think momentum

Is more prevalent in sports like hockey and baseball, where you play every day or every other day.

Westbrook just limped off, what a surprise

Giants fan from the womb to the tomb

by Jim Schmiedeberg on Dec 21, 2008 7:04 PM EST reply actions

definitely in hockey

basketball too I think. With baseball, I agree that there is momentum in terms of players, but it’s still day-to-day as far as which pitchers are on the mound. Your team can be hitting the crap out of the ball, but if you send Barry Zito out to the mound, you’re still probably gonna lose…

by cjmulrain on Dec 21, 2008 7:09 PM EST up reply actions

You mean like, when CC Sabathia eats a cheeseburger

and then he eats a turducken, and then he eats a box of cupcakes, he still has the momentum to go ahead and scarf down a live hog?

I don’t know how, but the Redskins have the golden touch when it comes to safeties. Landry is awesome, Taylor was awesome, he dies way too young, so what do they do: draft Chris Horton in the 7th round, and he’s awesome.

Cowboys implode, lose.
Atlanta wins at Minny.

and the cherry on top, the Jets score 3 points against the putrid Seahawks.

Good news

Eagles are still technically alive, so they have a reason to play Dallas tough next week. And Tampa plays Oakland, I believe, so they should win. If Tampa and Philly both win, Tampa makes the playoffs, and Eagles, Cowboys, and Redskins all get to watch us defend our title from home.

If I have it figured right

Giants only have 4 WR’s active tonight, and one of them is “Wrong Way” Manningham. I’d expect to see alot of Bradshaw lined up as a wideout, if weather permits the Giants to try and spread the field.

But, I’d be happy to see the Giants just pound the ball. I think they can against this team, w/any of the three backs. But, a couple swing passes/screens to Bradshaw or Ward would be a nice sight.

Jacobs

scored in the red zone. It’s an interesting point. Tony Gonzalez would look real nice as a goal line target right around now. I love Reese, but he dropped the ball on that one. First mistake he’s made as GM. When one of the top 3 TE’s in the league is available for a lower pick than you got when you traded your disgruntled, overrated TE, you make that trade.

by SBakerTheTouchdownMaker on Dec 21, 2008 9:44 PM EST up reply actions

scored in the nfc and 5th in the league overall. Clearly they have trouble scoring.

by Major on Dec 21, 2008 9:49 PM EST up reply actions

um, big difference between scoring and Red Zone offense

the Giants were 27th in the NFL in Red Zone offense going into Halloween weekend (13 TD, 14 FG in 31 trips) and that was with Plax.

19th in the NFL entering this week (2 trips: TD, FG).

61 trips, 31 TD, 24 FG = 50.8% TD pct.

i'll take my chances later in the game

say the Giants didn’t get it, Carolina kicks a FG here to make the score 24-19. Giants come back and score a TD, then they’re forced to go for 2 again to try to push the lead back to three, something they would’ve had if they had just kicked the extra point in the first place.

there have been hundreds of times where that has happened.

by SBakerTheTouchdownMaker on Dec 21, 2008 10:29 PM EST up reply actions

Going for 2

In that situation, if the giants go for 2 and fail, a 7 by Carolina makes it a 2 score game. Coughlin knew that by putting up the 1, if Caroline put up 7 more it would still be a 6+2 game. And it just so happened to work exactly that way.

2nd tier

Don’t forget the lesser but also playoff teams Arizona, Dallas, and next week Minnesota, ATL will be the only NFC playoff team we don’t face …

You play to win the game!

Good game

I am use to the Panthers being resurgent in the 4th. But this time you guys made the big plays when it counted.

All I got to say is if we don’t come back and beat you in the playoffs, then you BETTER get another ring. There’s your kudos… I am stressed and tired, so its the best I got. Thanks for tha chat.

BIG WIN

Well folks, Brandon Jacobs is the sparkplug of the NYG and the catalyst for DW and AB. And we are the best team in the NFC. LOVE IT! How about those defensive adjustments? Only sorry that we havent recorded a QB sack since the superbowl…
what a heavyweight bout between the best 2 in the NFC. Lot of good things tonight, I’m gonna have 1 last beer and go to bed but
DIDN’T we all know tonight was the night the G showed up?!!

You play to win the game!
