Steve Smith vs. Steve Smith
As a Panther fan I know all about THE Steve Smith. What I'd like to know is how the Giants Steve Smith stacks up to the Carolina version. Do they share any characteristics? I'm not referring to stats, those are out there to see. How are the fans feeling at NYGSS? Is he a future Pro Bowler?
What is the probablity of your Smith having a better game than the senior Smith? What are his strengths and weaknesses?
What ever happened to David Tyree? The helmet catch is one for the ages.
Can someone please help me out?

personally
I love our Steve Smith and think he has a bright future in the NFL. that said, right now there’s no comparison between him and your Steve Smith. Aside from both being short, there aren’t many similarities. Ours is more of a possession guy, nowhere near as explosive as yours. He runs very good routes, and usually has great hands, though he’s had some drops lately. He also seems like the type of guy who just has his head in the game, picking up more first downs than any other Giants receiver, although he had one uncharacteristic mess up where against the Redskis were he stepped out of bounds before crossing the line on a 3rd down.
As for Tyree, he’s been “hurt” and is on IR. Some of us speculate that he wasn’t that seriously hurt and could have made it back this year, but that he wasn’t going to make the roster b/c of our depth at receiver, and the Giants didn’t want to cut the Super Bowl hero.

Giants Steve Smith
As CJ said, there really isn’t a comparison right now. Our Steve Smith is not only a good route runner, but I can’t remember watching better at running short to intermediate routes. When they want to stretch the field, though, the Giants look to other receivers like Domenik Hixon.

The stepping out early on 3rd down
I think that was Ward (if I am thinking of the right play, near the end of the first half).

Additional question
how fast is our Steve Smith? I definitely don’t think of him as a blazer, but last night I needed to take a bit of a rest from studying, so I fired up my Madden 09 for the first time in over a month and continued my franchise, which is like 4 or 5 seasons in. I noticed that Smith has 99 speed in the game. I kept sending him on deep routes and burning the defense, it was flippin sweet. That’s gotta be a glitch in my game though, right, there’s no way Smith is that fast in real life, is there?

I would say he is not slow
but he is not fast either. He is definitely a guy who uses great route running to get open, as opposed to blazing speed.

Tyree was probably going to be cut anyway were it not for that catch
Our Steve Smith is nowhere near the Panthers steve smith; hes more of a possession receiver

Tyree
The thing is, don’t you wish right now that the guy was healthy? Honestly he never has been a great receiver, but he catches what is thrown to him. The Giants could use him at this point.

thats a great point,
Partly because Toomer is perhaps underutilized, another money go-to guy would be great for Eli

I dont see how Manningham or Moss couldnt do what tyree did
Plus theyre both more athletic, Tyrees loss has been felt on special teams coverage for sure, but not in the passing game.
What we have now is the late nineties/early 00s version of the Giants, where Toomer is the no.1 with Steve Smith playing the Ike Hilliard Role, while Smith is better than Hilliard, Toomer isnt as good as Plax….couple that w/ the Jacobs injury and here we are.
I dont think Tyree would help anything, b/c he wouldve been too low on the pecking order anyway

SS v. SS
The Giants’ Steve Smith is Jesus Christ in shoulder pads.
The Panther’s Steve Smith kills kittens for pleasure and steals money from children’s charities.

Nice analogy
except our SS would never kill a fellow Cat. Puppies, little cute puppies and baby seals. He bites their heads off.

Our Steve Smith
Is a Wes Welker type. He’s not the fastest guy on earth, but he makes up for it in the fact that he’s really quick, runs great routes and rarely makes mistakes. He generates separation incredibly well, especially on third and long. I have a feeling that our Steve Smith will be a great Number 2 in the NFL but never a superstar like Panther Steve Smith.
It's not easy being Giants fan in Philly.. but it sure is satisfying
