Sabathia a Yankee
Since I am a diehard New York Yankees fan, I have to gloat just a touch about the Yankees signing CC Sabathia today.
If you're a Yankee fan and you want to discuss -- or if you're not and you want to rant about it -- drop by my Yankees' site and get in on the discussion.

Oh, fine, no K-Rod talk?

we got last years CC
only for less money and less chance of him becoming Bartolo Colon 2.0. I’ll take it…

Oh NOW I see it.
Shoulda scrolled down before I posted.
I think I liked it better when you weren’t talking about the Mets.
By the way – CC stands for Double Cheeseburger. You knew that, right?

K-Rod?
What team did he go to? I have heard vague rumors that some other minor franchise plays in that other league. Didn’t put much stock in the rumors, though.

Well, I guess we only need THREE more pitchers to have a bullpen now, right?

160 million
That’s a half million a pound
7 year deal, He’ll look like Nate Newton at the end of that contract.
Hey hey hey!

Great!
You re-signed David Wells, only with a different name. That guy’s “before” picture to be in the weight loss with Don Shula is gonna be taken in year 4.
You play to win the game!

i don't remember
David Wells ever winning a Cy Young…
i’ll gladly exchange the fat jokes from rival fanbases for the complete game three-hitters.

I'm not making fat jokes
just merely pointing out that Bartolo Colon was a hefty former Indian who had a great season during which he was traded to the National League, then signed a big free agent contract, had one pretty good season (during which he screwed Mo Rivera out of a Cy Young) and promptly fell off a cliff b/c he couldn’t keep himself healthy.

Difference is
CC has had more than one good year. He has better numbers than any pitcher in baseball for the past three seasons combined.

not sure about that
over the last 3 seasons, Johan has a better ERA, better WHIP, more K’s, a (very slightly) better K/BB ratio, and a better win%. Sabathia’s an awesome pitcher, but I’d still take Johan, especially considering that despite being a few years older, he’s actually pitched less inning in his career, due to beginning later and as a reliever.

i'm a met fan..
but i like CC.. the only problem is his weight will eventually take a toll on him..

i'd take Santana too
and he’s smarter than CC for going to a National League team and staying. i can only imagine what Sabathia would’ve done had he stayed in the hitter-challenged NL..
2008 in AL: 18 starts, 6-8, 3.83 ERA, 3 CG, 123 K
2008 in NL: 17 starts, 11-2, 1.65 ERA, 7 CG, 128 K

but
you’re right about him being better than Colon. That was a slightly lazy comparison on my part.

Sabathia's done.
He peaked last year when he threw his fat arm out.

And that Cy Young...
belongs to Beckett and everyone knows it

is that the same Beckett
that “peaked” in 2007, then went 12-10 with a 4 ERA last year?
tell me, which is the exception and which is the rule here:
2007: 20-7, 3.27 ERA, 194 K
Career averages (in seasons with 20+ starts): 12.5 W-8.5 L, 3.78 ERA, 159 K

I forgot
you guys hate hime for extinguishing the Yankees’ only World Series hopes in this millennium. Sorry I brought him up.

correct me if i'm wrong
2001 (the year the Yankees were three outs away from a championship) is this millennium right?
how does one become a Giants/Red Sox fan? that’s like if Jessica Alba with a horrific mole on her face.

LOL
Don’t make me laugh at work, because my boss will know I’m fucking around posting here 73 times a day.
My dad was a good Red Sox fan (took me to games) and a lousy Patriots fan. To this day he’ll watch frickin UConn women’s basketball on Sunday afternoon. Therefore I was rudderless in the football world. And the ‘85 Bears erased any chance of my ever rooting for the Pats. The ’86 Giants made a name in sports for white guys named Phil. I recorded that game at age 9 and watched it over and over until the VHS dragged.
The way I look at it, last year’s Superbowl, the Giants were in something of a Red Sox role, and the Pats were the evil empire. Agreed?
Oh yeah, and the Yankees haven’t won a world series in this millennium. If three outs away counted, the Sox wouldn’t have been the worst goats in baseball for 86 years.
You play to win the game!

i hear you
i grew up in CT on the mason-dixon line for the Boston-NY thing. i have a close friend that is a Patriots/Yankees fan which is really strange, but he has a Ben Coates jersey so that proves he’s legit.
for our whole Yanks/Sox debate, i wasn’t claiming that close counted, i was just referring to your comment: “you guys hate him for extinguishing the Yankees’ only World Series hopes in this millennium.” 2003 wasn’t their only WS hope. 2001 they were three outs away. 2004 they were one game away (let’s face it, Yanks would’ve clobbered St.L as well). just wanted to clarify.
any fan of Phil McConkey is a friend of mine.
