Tuck fined for hit on Bollinger
From ESPN:
"Tuck was fined $7,500 for driving the Cowboys' Brooks Bollinger into the turf in the second half. Replays show Tuck wrapping up Bollinger the moment the quarterback released the ball, then partly releasing his grasp on their way down before landing on Bollinger with his full weight.
NFL information manager Randall Liu, quoted in Friday's New York Times, said Tuck was fined because "he unnecessarily drove the opposing quarterback to the ground."
Though it doesn't appear in the ESPN article, Tuck is quoted as to saying, "we can't hit them in the head, we can't hit them below the knees, and apparently we can't hit them hard either." The play occurred in the 3rd quarter and drew the ire of head coach Tom Coughlin. He was clearly upset with the referee's judgement. It was also a play that we alluded to in the actual Game Thread (I think I may have used the word "bullshit"...).
This is starting to get way out of hand. I would hope that the NFLPA and perhaps the owners as well would get involved to curb this trend. If not, pretty soon we'll have quarterbacks wearing the red jerseys they wear in practice.
It's absolutely ridiculous to me that Tuck could get fined for a hit like this while Jared Allen's hit on Matt Schaub and Kimo Von Oelhoffen's hit on Carson Palmer go completely unnoticed. Good, clean, hard hits get fines and flags while potential career-ending cheap shots draw nothing.
What a joke.
UPDATE: The fine was thrown out (props to Phildo). Justice served. I guess I shouldn't have flipped over that cop car in protest...

Bullshit!!!!
WTF? #1, that play shouldn’t have been a penalty, and he damn sure shouldn’t be fined for that hit.

That's such BS.
He should NOT have been flagged for that hit, much less fined. Bollinger sort of jumped up in the air right before he got hit (to get the ball off) and that action made the hit look much worse than it was.
Jason Campbell got hit on Monday night by a Steeler (who I don’t remember) and was literally thrown into the ground like a rag doll. That didn’t even get a flag.
Has officiating always been this bad…is it just me, or does this year completely blow? Has this been going on and I just haven’t noticed it before? It seems so prevalent this year. And Goodell’s life in denial with regards to this issue is driving me nuts.

I was thinking the same
not that he can’t afford it but it would send a tangible message to the NFL.

It's sad really when you compare
Allen and Oelhouffen’s hits to Tuck’s. The NFL has to do something to clean up the mess they;ve created. You can’t just blame the officials on the field. Who the hell is reviewing the film and making these grossly inappropriate decisions? Why don’t more of the the media call them on this BS? They can do something about what happens on the field by making the field officials full-timers.They certainly have the money to do so.. That would help, but how do you correct the questionable judgment of those who review the film?

Looks like someone grew a brain and decided not to fine him after all.

before it was taken back
I suggested to my friend that he pay the fine in pennies, i thought that would be a brilliant way to protest the league without further violating league rules

thank god for that
last I checked football was a contact sport. If the league keeps going like this all the player’s will be in sumo suits and they’ll replace the ol’ pigskin with a nerf

I think flipping over the car in protest was acceptable.
That was a ridiculous fine.

You saw it
and no doubt the replay. Ball snapped….drop back…instant sack! It was the perfect defensive play. I don’t generally like to write this way but……WTF

we lost to the titans on the final series of the game when suggs was called for similar crap..he was blocked into collins and his arm grazed collins shoulder and maybe his helmet…no knockdown or anything…collins pass went incomplete and we thought the game was over but NOOOOO. refs suck for everyone this year..too subjective.
