Update on the Plaxico Burress story
The Daily News has an update from about an hour ago. Antonio Pierce was with him, and apparently laid into Plax about carrying a gun into a nightclub.
Here is the statement from the Giants on the incident:
"We are aware of the fact that Plaxico was involved in an apparent accidental shooting last night. We have been in contact with Plaxico since shortly after the incident. Plaxico suffered a wound to his right thigh. Obviously, our primary concern is for Plaxico’s health and well-being, and given the circumstances, we are relieved to say he was released from a New York City hospital at approximately 2 p.m. today. We have been in touch with NFL Security on this matter. At this point, we are attempting to gather all the facts surrounding this incident. This incident could become a matter for law enforcement officials, and because of that, we have no comment on any of the details."
One of the more troublesome parts of the article:
Burress could face illegal weapons charges, a crime that carries up to five years in prison, sources said.
"He went for his gun and fumbled it. And now it will cost him," a police source said.
The state of Florida issued him a concealed weapon permit that expired in May. Even if it had been renewed, it wouldn't be recognized by authorities in New York or New Jersey.
Personally, I can't help but wonder if the Giants front office is gathered somewhere pouring over that new contract they gave Plax looking at out clauses.

Nice work (both of you)
while I’m off having movie night with the mrs. ‘jrs’ is cranking out the updates. I’m afraid Plax has a lot more problems here than how soon he will be healthy enough to play football again.

There comes a time
when you just have to cut this guy loose. All the talent in the world is not worth what this guy is putting the giants through. They are riding high right now and don’t need the insane distraction this will cause. The whole reason the giants are as good as they are is because of the team concept.
I think plax has worn out his welcome.
Jimmy, say high to jrs jr. for me.

Easy fix
Just have him join the NRA real quick like and say that he was flexing his rights to be a gun carrying citizen of a free country! If he was able to be wearing a holster of some sort none of this would have happened now would it….. It’s our rights to have our liquor and carry our guns!!!! God bless America and Plaxico Burress and the Giants.

About the poll
A little early to make the keep/dump decision We don’t have the facts. Let’s see how the rest of the year plays out.
That said, I think it is more and more likely that Plax will not be in a Giants uniform in September 2009

clearly Plax and Stephon Marbury live
on the same space colony. He might get to spend a few days in the Tombs for his stupidity last night too. Maybe it’s time to stay on your crib and watch movies every so often.

Concealed permits in FL
Getting a concealed permit in the state of FL is a joke. I did it myself earlier this year. Two “instructors” read from a stack of papers for about an hour lecturing on gun safety and the rules around carrying your concealed gun, ie – where you can and can’t take it. You spend the rest of your time lining up to take your picture and filling out forms. Oh, and you had to shoot a .22 finto a concrete block rom about 10 feet away. Loads of training!
Obviously Plax zoned out when they covered the part about not being able to take it into any establishments that serve alcohol, not to mention the part about checking with each state on their laws governing concealed weapons.
It’s a shame that this happened to him. He is a talented player when he wants to be. I concur with everyone else who’s asking what in the hell was he doing in a nightclub when he was listed as inactive for tomorrow’s game, anyway? If he had stayed on the couch recouping his sore hamstring – he wouldn’t be in this mess. He’s gonna find out real quick that hindsight is 20/20.
That being said – I hope the Giant’s don’t let this debacle ruin their mental game tomorrow. We’ve got a long road ahead of us the rest of the season, and we don’t need any more of these “distractions”. Go G-Men!

it seems to me we have a consensus here.
I agree with everyone who has stated that Plax has loads of talent. Yet I have never thought that status whether it be financial, athletic, political or otherwise should ever allow a person to bend or break the laws of the country for any reason. I also believe that if you are employed by an organization you have entered into a legally binding agreement to fulfill the responsibilities within it to the best of your ability. Team meetings, practice, etc. Are all part and parcel of being a player in the NFL. Plaxico Buress has been aware of his responsibilities as a receiver in this league since the day he put on his uniform. He is also able to afford bodyguards. Plaxico Buress has absolutely no excuse for discharging a firearm in public. Regardless of the circumstances he was in at the time. UNLESS, he didn’t in fact “accidentally” shoot himself, and he cooked up a cock and bull story to protect someone he has a reason to fear reprisal from should the authorities become aware of said mystery persons involvement. Any way this story comes out, Plaxico IS NOT an individual living up to the player’s code of conduct within the NFL and needs to suffer the consequences of his actions. Thank you for the Superbowl winning touchdown and playing hurt Mr. Buress. I appreciate it immensely. Now don’t let the door hit you on the way out. Should another door open for you in the future, learn from the example you yourself set as well as countless other athletes over the years: if you come from a backround that’s less than glamorous and are thrust into the limelight, leave your past behind you and learn to live up to the potential that got you there. Guns don’t score touchdowns, QBs with rocket arms cbined with speeding bullet RBs and WRs score touchdowns :P

all the 'fans' who voted to dump burress make me sick
this was not a selfish move by burress, it was a stupid one. there is a difference, that being that you dont dump a guy when he needs support just because he makes a dumb mistake.
i now its fun to pass judgments and claim the higher moral ground but this is pathetic. i am seriously sickened.
