Giants lineman McKenzie charged with DWI after traffic stop
This isn't good. Especially given how many games they've been playing together.
Kareem McKenzie was charged with drunken driving after a traffic stop Thursday night.
McKenzie was stopped after he cut through a gas station lot at about 9:30 p.m., said Little Falls police Lt. Salvatore Calafiore. A Breathalyzer test found McKenzie's blood-alcohol level was above New Jersey's legal limit of 0.08. He was taken to police headquarters and released later that night, Calafiore said.
It doesn't say how far above the limit he was - so we don't know if it was something ticky-tack like .09 or something like that.
The problem now is that Coughlin has to bench Kareem, right? He doesn't have a choice, and it will be a double standard if he doesn't subject KM to any punishment.

Here's you answer from the Giants
From Ralph Vacchiano:
Kareem McKenzie will start at right tackle for the Giants on Sunday despite his arrest Sunday night for DUI.
(I’m pretty sure Ralph meant to write ‘arrest Thursday night.’ Nice to see that even the big-time guys make mistakes.)

My guess
is they let him play this week, wait for some more facts to come out, then sit him for next weekends game (perhaps not coincidentally against an Arizona team whose defense is not as good as Baltimore’s)

The crappy thing about this is
that Kareem seems like a genuinely good guy..

Here is Coughlin
“There’s never been a better citizen,” Coughlin said on his weekly WFAN spot. “There’s not an individual who’s had more remorse for what he did. He’s not blaming anyone but himself. He’s a guy who has been a first-class guy in this organization. He made a mistake. Everybody realizes that. It’s an error. It’s a mistake. We’re disappointed. He’s disappointed. But nobody’s going to be harder on him than himself.”

There is no such thing as a ticky tack DUI
That shit is dangerous and he could have hurt someone. With that said he McKensie seems remorseful and inclined to not sit him any games.

dear NFL players:
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PLEASE STOP DRINKING AND DRIVING! You WILL get caught. Goodell will fine you and suspend you. Every game is important in a 16 game schedule. The poorest players among you make 750,000 bucks a year. YOU CAN AFFORD A TAXI/LIMO/HELICOPTER/LEAR JET. Just F&@$ing DO IT!!!!
