Best Giants Games Ever?

Hey Guys,

I'm new to the site but love what I see so far and can't wait to get more involved.

A question for you though- If you were to think back over the past 30 years or so of Giants football, which individual games stick out most in your minds?  Things like huge comebacks, miraculous wins, crazy things that happened in the stands, SuperBowls, conference championships,  blunder type games (Leon Lett type things)?

Thanks guys!!  Just trying to get some insight into what makes the Gints so special to so many of us!!

the 1994 season

Giants started 3 win 0 loss, and suddenly the were in a free fall and lost 7 in a row. Until they beat on Monday night, (back then) the Houston oilers with Jeff Fisher as first year coach, I think we won with 3 field goals or something like that, and then we won the next 5 games to end the season 9-7. There were no playoffs for us, it was a wacky season but I will remember that last game againts Dallas to earn W number 9

i always loved the '02 regular season finale

Shockey and Dawkins both come down with the ball in the end zone but Shockey takes it away. Then just starts nodding his head at Dawkins like “yeah, I got it.” clinched the Wild Card spot (before “the game that shall not be spoken of”)

always been one of my favorites.

wasn't that the 10-7 game

One of the best low scoring games I can remember watching. Akers missing a field goal. Tiki fumbling 4 times and still winning overtime almost single handedly

Superbowl XXV

against the Bills in 1991. I still find myself holding my breath while Scott Norwood misses his field goal attempt in the last seconds of the game.

Eli's first year

Last game against the cowboys. Tiki breaks a run, but gets stopped at the 3 with 7 seconds left. Tiki is I think 1 and 2 yards away from the single season and career records in either yards from scrimmage or rushing, and there’s no time outs, so he if he runs and misses the game is over. Eli goes to the line. Looks at the defense, audibles to draw, Tiki gets the TD for the win and both records.

1999

Toomer deep for the win against the undefeated Broncos

I think that was 1997

That was gonna be mine.

Is it too obvious to mention Super Bowl XLII….D’OH – this thread is moving to fast, SSreporters just posted about last year!

both wrong

it was 1998. The Broncos beat the Packers in Super Bowl XXXII (1997 season), then started off 13-0 the next year before coming to the Meadowlands, where we beat them. With nothng left to play for, they lost the next week too, before winning their final game and then going on to win their 2nd SB.

The world will never know if the Broncos would have lost that next game (to the Dolphins, ironically) had they not already lost on Kent Graham’s Hail Mary, or if they would have won out and gone undefeated. Either way, I think it’s safe to say the Giants are the favorite team of the ‘72 Dolphins, b/c we’ve stopped the 2 best chances any team had of going undefeated since the ’85 Bears.

6 comments in and NO mentions of this last Super Bowl?

Signature? SIGNATURE?! Don't talk about SIGNATURE! I just hope I can write a sentence!

ooh one more

Even though it’s a loss the 2001 Eagles, the hook and ladder to Dixon

A few more

The playoff game against the Eagles in 2000, when Sehorn made his circus-catch interception, then ran it back for a TD.

The first game of the 2000 season, when “Thunder & Lightning” was born. Tiki ran for 2 TD’s, one a 78 yard gallop, and finished with 144 yards in his coming out party, while Heisman Winner Ron Dayne ran for 78 yards and a TD.

Another one from the 2000 season, not particularly memorable for any reason other than it was my first ever live Giants game. I had been to numerous Jets games, but always begged my dad to get tickets to the Giants. Finally, when my aunt met my now uncle, a season ticket holder, I got my chance. The Giants beat the Eagles, 24-7, their last regular season win against them until Eli was starting…

Weird how they’re all from 2000, huh? I was always a Giants fan, but that was the year I became die-hard about them. Everything just converged for me that year: I was 16, whch is the best sports following age, my Mets had just been to the first World Series I could remember, the Giants drafted the Heisman winner, had a resurgent offense and a great defense, and went to the Super Bowl. Plus I got to my first game. Just an awesome sports year for me, so I have many fond memories.

very similiar for me too

and of course the 41-0 spanking of the Vikings

by queler on Oct 31, 2008 10:44 AM EDT up reply actions

oh man

what a game that was. Kerry Collins looking like Montana, completely shutting down Moss/Carter, even Greg Comella got in on the action.

I still have the laminated front page from the NY Daily News in my room. The headline reads “PERFECT!”

by SBakerTheTouchdownMaker on Oct 31, 2008 1:13 PM EDT up reply actions

of course

that game was awesome, although it was a little spoiled by the Super Bowl. I would have preferred Collins throw 2 picks in both games, and saved 3 of his TDs for the SB…that way they might have won them both!

Has a QB ever had a more schizo Championship/Super Bowl performance?

by cjmulrain on Oct 31, 2008 1:47 PM EDT up reply actions

i agree

that whole second half of the year/playoffs was unbelievable. With sehorn’s pick that miraculously rolled down his back and leg and somehow ended up in his hands – and not to mention staying in bounds while laying inches away from the sideline. The NFC championship game vs. the vikings was the most packed i’ve seen giants stadium ever. also, they had to paint the endzones blue because it was bascially all mud (thanks to the swamplands of north jersey). if i recall correctly, akers missed a late field-goal in the regular season that would have won the game for the eagles, that may be another year though. please correct me if i’m wrong.

How about

the Road game against the eagles in the ‘06 season.. the massive comeback, Eli’s best regular season performance, and the gamewinning TD by plax.. what a game

Honorable mention would have to be December 23, 1995, my first Giants Game
against the Chargers.. Anyone remember that one?
I hope i can forget it soon

by Hoyadestroya85 on Oct 31, 2008 3:36 AM EDT reply actions

I was thinking of that same game in '06

Was that charger game the infamous snowball game?

by gobs56 on Nov 3, 2008 2:04 PM EST up reply actions

The 1986 game against the Vikings

The Giants won on their final posession after Simms hit Bobby Johnson on 4th & 17 (very Eli like, LOL) and Allegre kicked the game winner. Also, the passing offense had been struggling a bit for a few weeks before that & in this game Simms spread the ball around & I feel like this was the catapult to Simms’ great postseason run.

And as SS said before, how the hell can you not include last years’ SB?

by potroast on Oct 31, 2008 12:19 PM EDT reply actions

That's when I knew they were going all the way for sure.

After that nothing was impossible.

We're only gonna score 17 points?

Gotta go with.........

41-0 NFC Championship game over the Vikes. Walking around the grandstands at halftime (34-0), I never saw so many ecstatically happy people. At least since back in the day when mind altering substances were de riguer. :-)

18-1, oops!!!!!!!
