Wednesday Walk Around the NFL, 10-29
Good Morning, Giants fans, it's time to take our Wednesday look at stories making headlines around the NFL. So, let's get to it!
- The Rams sent the NFL a videotape of their game against the Patriots. The Pats were penalized just once on Sunday, and the Rams want to know why.
- Several players are under investigation by the league for taking a diuretic that is on the banned substance list.
- Is Chiefs RB Larry Johnson the biggest jackass in the league?
- The Sporting News has an early look at the NFL MVP race. I think Eli deserves to be on this list. Not sure how you can put so many guys on 4-3 and 3-4 teams on an MVP list, but what do I know? I don't work for The Sporting News.
- After telling the Chiefs "No thanks", Daunte Culpepper is in talks to join the Lions.
NFL Nuggets:
- I have not seen this officially confirmed, but rumors are that Giants Equipment Director Joe Skiba has said the Giants will NOT wear their red jerseys at all this year.
- The Chargers fired Defensive Coordinator Ted Cottrell. I think Norv Turner is next in San Diego. I still can't figure out why Norv is on his third head coaching gig, while Jim Fassel never got another shot.
- The NFC East could be the first division in NFL history to have every team finish over .500. It has never happened before.
- Mike Singletary doesn't believe in "settling in", does he?
- I didn't think it was possible, but Jamarcus Russell has actually gotten worse since Lane Kiffin was fired.
- I think Wade Phillips is going to become the 3rd coach this season to meet his demise after playing the Giants.
- Lastly, I am glad the Giants are playing Dallas this weekend. After the big win over the Steelers, I don't see any way they let down against Dallas. I would be more worried about this game if they were playing Oakland or Detroit.

Injuries
Wish we could see the giants against the full cowboys team so we dont have to hear excuses. Now that the witten news is out there msising about 10 starters. Witten, Pro Bowl linemen Kyle Kosier, Romo, Felix, newman, Anthony Henry, Roy Williams, Anthony Spencer.
Eli needs to take advantage of the fact that hes throwing against a secondary that will be young and clueless. Alan ball and mike jenkins will be there starting corners as rookies. With 2nd year player Orlando Scandrick starting at strong safety.
who cares if they make excuses?
win is a win is a win. everybody has to deal with injuries, don’t they have like 700 Pro Bowlers on their bench anyway?
i just want to beat them and i don’t care if it’s Chad Hutchinson Drew Henson Drew Bledsoe Brad Johnson Brooks Bollinger at Quarterback.

A win is a win
But this game isnt even close with the cowboys missing as many players as they are. I personally enjoy the giant cowboy games and there always close. I just dont see this being even a game unless the giants completely blow it.
I look at it this way
The Giants beat the Boys at full strength in January.
It’s not the Giants fault

The Giants beat the Boys at full strength in January, they can’t use the injury excuse.

Agree
But its impossible to look past the fact that there missing this many players and we all know we would rather the giants beat there team at full strength than half. I expect the 2nd game this year to be much closer than the beating the giants will put on the cowboys this weekend.
Portis #6?
yeah right. you take him away from the Skins and that’s probably a 6-10 football team. he would definitely get my MVP vote right now. also, if he’s going to put Haynesworth and Ware on that list, Tuck should be on there as well. Brees stats are really nice, but when has he ever won a big game (and no, beating a bi-polar San Diego team coached by Norv Turner in London doesn’t count)?
one more thing, Kyle Orton has done more for the Bears than Trent Edwards has done for Buffalo. maybe he should be on the list?

I can absolutely guarantee that Wade Phillips won't be fired
after the game on Sunday no matter how bad you beat us or for the remainder of the season for that matter.
Jerry has never fired a coach during the season and it will never happen with Wade. Now if the Cowboys don’t play well even after they get back all of their stud players when healthy, he could get the pink slip after the season is over, but never during the season, not going to happen.

You are forgetting one thing
He isn’t that good of a head coach to begin with, Injuries or not. Coordinator yes, head coach no.

Larry Johnson
He’s a jackass, but are we still couting Pacman Jones as being in the league? B/c nobody beats him. The only living player I can think of that beats Pacman is Mr. 2,000 himself, OJ.
And the MVP thing is annoying, but that’s what happens when you have the best TEAM. We don’t have a single player that stands out above the rest, b/c everybody is good. We’re like the Patriots prior to last year. I agree with SBaker, right now Clinton Portis should be the MVP, followed by Haynesworth. And I would put Justin Tuck in the Top 5, but I understand him not being on peoples lists.
mvp
I didn’t get to watch the first couple of games live but is Tuck really having that great of season so far. I think Ware is probably the one I disagree with on that list. Maybe I’ll change my mind after this week. CJ’s right, I think Portis has got to be my leading candidate right now. I don’t have a problem with Eli not being on that list, I think our offense is pretty balanced. I think especially for QB you need to see what the team would be with an average/acceptable QB instead of the guy, because almost every team sucks with a backup. I’m not sure any QB on that list is having an MVP season. I think if you switched them you’d see similiar results. Maybe Edwards, but I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop there.
Yes Injuries happen
to every team in the league and you do have to deal with them as some of you guys have stated. I don’t think anyone at BTB is going to argue that with you, but our point is that if you think that this is even close to the team you will see in Dallas on 12/14 (or even the team we will put out there on 11/16 in DC) you will be disappointed. I am with the rest of the CowBOYS faithful that just hopes that my team comes out and plays with heart, that is what I am looking for, can the team we field play like they’ve got a pair? I sure hope so.
Good luck on Sunday, I hope you see that killer instinct from your team that you desire when playing a beat up opponent. Looking forward to a physical game.
First to six!!!
We agree
No Giants fan should be talking smack because of injuries. Lord knows we have had our share over the years. You play with the hand you are dealt. To me, it’s important for the giants to win Sunday — precisely for the reason you stated. The Cowboys are wounded. They will be home next time, and they will have all or most of their horses. Gotta kick this dog while it’s down. When — and if — it gets back up it just might be scary.
