Eli vs. Big Ben, one last look
Since we spent so much time last week debating Eli Manning and Ben Roethlisberger, here is a little comparison from Sunday's game, courtesy of ESPN's Matt Mosley.
Big Ben is a terrific QB. I am perfectly content with the guy we have, though.

6 drops
by our receivers. Not good. I know 2 of them were Steve Smith one when he was very clearly held as we was going for the pass, and the other one the deep ball where he was creamed as he caught it, but even without those two, 4 drops is too many. Receivers gotta hold onto the ball

Check out Serby's Article from Sunday's NY Post
He mentioned that Ben plays the Browns and Bengals 2x each yr while Eli faces off against teams like the Eagles/Cowboys/Redskins each yr. Interesting parallel.
Eli played a heckuva game yesterday. Ultimately, he’s more like Phil Simms than Dan Marino. But I’m ok with that!!

I think you have it right, Cody, although Eli still has time to develop
into a top shelf QB. Right now, like Phil, he just misses premier status. Like you and Ed, that’s alright with me.

Well a lot of guys can put up Marinoesque numbers...
It depends on what their Offensive Coordinators like to do, Im sure Eli has the tools to throw for 4 thousand yards, but we’ve got a great running game and Kevin “Toss Sweep on 3rd and Long” Gilbride….so it may not happen anytime soon.
Okay, just so I understand it... in your wildest fantasy, you are in hell. And you are co-running a bed and breakfast with the devil.

I'm perfectly content with the guy we have too
… but comparing the two based on their performance in one game (a game in which Eli got WAY better protection than Roethlisberger) rather than over the course of their five-season careers is stupid.

Just tossing out the numbers
I know one game doesn’t change anything.

Yep, I know
I’m not criticizing you for posting the link, I’m criticizing Matt Mosley for half-assed “analysis”.
By the way, if we’re going to use yesterday’s game as a measuring stick for the two, it should be pointed out that though Roethlisberger did throw four picks, the first (Butler’s) was a really impressive diving play, the second (Kehl’s) was thrown right on the money and jarred loose by a defender (Phillips, I think?) right into Keh’ls hands, and the fourth was a Hail Mary in desperation-time at the end of the game. Only the third was really a bad throw, I thought.

Manning was better in the game (and may be will be in the future)
…for one big reason, I think. He has better control of his ego than Roethlisberger. He was content to play within the system, take what was given to him, and not try to win the game on his own. Ben isn’t the brightest bulb on the tree, and is much more inclined to believe that he can succeed purely on his own talent. He stands in the pocket forever waiting for the perfect passing opportunity far down the field. Roethlisberger wants to be Brett Favre, but doesn’t have the same athletic ability as the young Favre. Or maybe even the old Favre.
