Today's New York Giants-Pittsburgh Steelers matchup has been, shall we say, eagerly anticipated. Both are 5-1 and could be the teams to beat in their respective conferences.
I can't wait for kickoff. Use this as your Open Thread. Let's get a good discussion going. Hopefully, this week no one will drag down the conversation with an overdose of negativity, which seemed to happen last week.
Remember to keep your browser open to the comments so they will 'auto refresh' live-blog style.
Enjoy the game! Go Big Blue!

for both of these teams. we’ll get a good gauge of where the Giants are at.
Best case scenario: 24-10 Giants – get to Roethlisberger, Jacbos runs wild
Worst case sceario: 28-7 Steelers – Eli throwing off his back foot, Mewelde gone wild!
Likely scenario: 21-17 Steelers – Pittsburgh is such a tough out at home and Big Ben finds a way.
lets go G-Men!

you're right bud
i couldn’t really read what you were attempting to say (looked kind of like a text message from a 10-year old), but i think i caught a ‘Bradshaw’ in there. somehow, i doubt that coming off a two-fumble performance against the 49ers, and with his whopping 26 carries this season that he’ll suddenly explode on the scene against a physiclal D. you match physical with physical, and that’s what Jacobs brings to the table.
and Ed, i can’t tell if you’re joking (because i usually get nervous about every Giants game) but i don’t see how picking the Giants to lose to one of the best teams in the NFL on the road by 4 points makes me a pessimist…

i said that w/ a physical d bradshaw and ward r better options than jacobs
and remem last year when jacobs had the fumbling problem he walked around w/ a football for the whole week and didnt fumble again tht season (maybe once) so lets hope bradshaw did that also

Shenk, my friend
If you can’t chill with the criticism and the 10-year-old style text message bullshit style I will run your ass off this site.
We are all friends here, and we run a ‘discussion’ site.
I don’t know what bug is up your ass where you have to be so negative about a team that is the defending Super Bowl champ and is 5-1, but if you can’t grow up and be a little more rational we really don’t want you here.

Today's game
You guys will be on your own for most of the afternoon. I have a soccer game (my son’s final one) and I hope to be home in time for the 4th quarter. Otherwise, I will be watching on the DVR later on.
Huge game today!
Let’s hope the GMen bring their A game because they’re going to need it. Go Big Blue!
First offensive play will go deep to Hixon
Fox’s Jay Glazer reports that Burress won’t start on Sunday against the Steelers because he skipped treatment session this week.
Geez
Burress is an idiot. I stand by what I have said in the past — no way he spends the next five seasons as a Giant.

i've never bought the Eli is better without Plax arguement
does Eli force the ball to Plax at times? yes. does he stare at his receiver? yes, but that’s improved a lot in the last few years. Eli has thrown 32 touchdown passes to Plaxico since ‘05. that’s pretty impressive and i think they’re right up there with Peyton/Harrison and Plamer/Johnson during that span.
by SBakerTheTouchdownMaker on Oct 26, 2008 12:50 PM EDT up reply actions
Eli-Plax
You know, I think every QB probably forces some throws to his best wide receiver sometimes. When the throws are incomplete he gets criticized. when they are complete he gets credit for “giving Plax a chance to make a play.”
by Ed Valentine on Oct 26, 2008 1:22 PM EDT up reply actions
I think you're right
If you’re going to force a throw, you go to your best receiver, or your tallest receiver if you’re throwing deep. Burress is both.
Sometimes
I think a QB forces a throws because he has nothing else and just trusts a guy to make a play. Not always a great idea, but sometimes it works. Think Culpepper-Moss.

Hence not making the wings….

Ed,
Your Derrick Ward post is the most true thing ever..
everyone and their mother has skinned knees for him since the super bowl.. Ward is simply better
This part in the Plax story worries me....
While the team tries to have patience with their controversial wideout, Giants players are starting to run out of it. Several players feel that once Burress got paid it empowered him even more than it had in the past. Even some guys on offense have grown tired of his act and feel he should be suspended.

not sure if anyone is watching the Skins game
but the Lions really are pitiful. The Redskins are dominating them in every facet of the game, yet the Lions had the lead for a while and were only down 6 a few minutes ago. They punt, Santana Moss fields it, runs into his own guy, almost goes down, gets pushed back like 5 yards, then runs for a TD. Possibly one of the most pathetic punt coverages I’ve ever seen.
Pats-Rams
Is what I’m watching. The Rams are a much different team than when they played the Giants. Much more disciplined now. Amazing how much difference Haslett has made. Pats just tied the game though.

I don't like it
but I’ll take it. Except for the terrible “tackling” on the Steelers TD, the D has been playing great. And the offense has been driving, they just can’t finish. Hopefully they can pick it up in the 2nd half
Howie Long said it
Steeler defense has been on the field a looong time. They’ll be vulnerable to Bradshaw.
My guess is that...
we will see a lot of Ward and Jacobs in the 3rd and if Tom remembers, we might get to see Bradshaw in the 4th. I think there are some doubts about him holding onto the football. I am not sure it is valid, just a gut feeling. And using him in the 4th might not be in the cards if that is the perception.
However, I want to see him out there.

but how can you justify throwing the ball to a double-covered TE at the 2 on 3rd down? Even if that was complete, they don’t score…
The final score is 15-14
Believe it and it will happen

I was about to call
BS on this one, but I honestly can’t remember a single big catch Shockey made in his career. He did have that awesome catch where he bowled over like 8 defenders in his first preseason though. Oh, memories…
there was also
the play where he lost his helmet.. which was awesome.. but you think about boss.. he’s made so many catches.. including a momentum changing play in the super bowl
by Hoyadestroya85 on Oct 26, 2008 7:24 PM EDT up reply actions
BTW
where was that play calling all game? they start to throw the ball around, which also opens up running lanes, and bingo. why wait until the end of the game?
Alright Alright Alright

You punt, put the Giants deep, and hope to stop them, you know the Giants are going to keep it close to the vest

How much leg
does Carny have? Giants are going to play it safe, but could put this game away with a FG.
Low 40s Im guessing

interesting choice here
risk the long field goal to ice the game but give Steelers great field position if you miss, or use Feagles to pin them deep?
you don't want it to get blocked
because he has to put it pretty low at his age

not sure if you're talking about the Super Bowl
or the game where we literally buried Donovan McNabb under Giants Stadium last year, but yea, it’s reminding me of both
i was talking super bowl
game killing sacks at the end, Boss making a huge play off a LB falling for playaction
Denver 05
The Giants stole that one at the end in Denver

well, if we're gonna go by statistics
QB A: 19/32, 199 Yards, 1 TD, 0 INT
QB B: 13/29, 189 Yards, 1 TD, 4 INT
You decide
wow that place emptied quick

Totally agree.
This is a game that a team says, “hey, look what we did in Pitt. we are never out of a game or far enough in front.”
This was awesome.

It
gives the Giants a little breathing room, that’s for sure.
by Ed Valentine on Oct 26, 2008 7:53 PM EDT up reply actions
I will say this
that’s a very good team. Fantastic defense, and a better offense than they showed tonight (they had a few guys out, and our D played out of their minds). I will not be at all surprised if they are the last team standing in the AFC this year
Hey, like I said, one way or another.
I"m telling you Lady Luck owed us this one and more. she’ll keep coming through when we need her.

Him (7:41:53 PM): aganist the dallas cowboy cheerleaders
Him (7:42:04 PM): aka the cowgirls
Well, you all picked the game deciders
I think everyone on here and even the Pitt fans said it was going to be a battle in the trenches. That is exactly what this game was. Honestly, if you told me the GMEN would not get 100 yrds rushing I would have guessed the lost, but I think they ended up with less than 100. Also, if you said someone had 4 INTs; I might have guessed our man Eli. Wow. The Def was awesome.
i had to post one more
to give us at least 500

All I can say is...
ALL of the questionable calls, Jacobs WAS in on that TD…he crossed the plane and I don’t know what reply they were looking at – please give those Pitt refs some glasses; my man Toomer on the 4th down, who else could E go to, love him; red zone frustration, but the defense made up for that; the offense regardless, kept E from getting sacked; the sacks on big Ben, I just can’t even express how happy I am in words right now because our boys – when they are the under dog away from home, always make me proud!!!!! The defense WAS awesome, I certainly agree!!!!!!!! What a game! Definitely a sound sleep tonight after the Monday night loss to the Browns…that’s just a bad dream now!!!! I love our G-Men!!!!!! WOO HOO!
Thanksgiving dinners take eighteen hours to prepare. They are consumed in twelve minutes. Half-times take twelve minutes. This is not coincidence.
This is completely irrelevant
but Patti Labelle’s rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner was horrible.
great great great GREAT win
i don’t think i’ve been his excited after a regular season game since the Monday Night ass-whopping they laid on Dallas in Bledsoe’s final game in ‘06. the run wasn’t working but they stuck with it and blitzed Pittsburgh into submission.
nothing against the Titans, who look great so far, but i find it hard to believe that this isn’t the best team in football right now.
