Wednesday Walk Around the NFL 10-22
Good Morning Giants fans, it's that time again, and there are some great stories making headlines around the NFL, so let's get to it!
- Considering the Eagles haven't won an NFL Championship since Moses wore short pants, should their GM really be taking shots at the Cowboys?
- We all heard the story that Jay Glazer told on Fox NFL Sunday about Brett Favre possibly giving away Packer secrets to the Lions before their game with Green Bay Week 2. Mike Vandermause of the Green Bay Gazette has a take on it that has enough sarcasm in it to fill Lambeau Field. I don't see any of those "heroes welcomes" for Brett at the airport in Green Bay anytime soon, and don't be surprised if a street gets renamed in Green Bay sometime soon.
- What is it with University of Miami Tight Ends? Are they all malcontents? Kellen Winslow has been suspended by the Browns for critical comments about the team.
- Chiefs running back Larry Johnson is in trouble again.
- The Sporting News has some theories on why Jerry Jones won't fire Wade Phillips.
- Apparently, Jet fans aren't letting years of mediocrity stop them from spending gobs of money on PSL's.
- Upon the Niners firing Mike Nolan and hiring Mike Singletary, the Santa Rosa Press Democrat says the 49ers have no clue what they are doing.
- This is one of the few times you will ever see a reference to the Wall Street Journal on Big Blue View, let's face it, we are much more of a "Mad Magazine and Maxim" group, but the WSJ says the Giants-Steelers game may be a Super Bowl Preview.

UPDATE: 8:52 AM: Cowboys celebrity QB Tony Romo has announced he will not start on Sunday against Tampa, and may be out another month.
One final non-football thought from me:

Regarding Mike Singletary....
Even though he played for the rival Bears I always admired his play, hard but clean. If it hadn’t been for LT he might have been a candidate for linebacker of the decade.
I think he will be a great coach, in spite of the derogatory remarks about his abilities by the writer of the article. He’s the kind of guy who may be able to inspire the troops with the best of them. I wish him the best and hope he goes on to a great head coaching career.

Oh yes,
and Mike had the most amazing eyes of any football player I ever saw. Remember how wide and wild they looked in the closeups as he prepared for every play?

Plax ....
Mike Tomlin was interviewed on NFL network and he stated that He was worried about covering Plax………..is it me or does anyone else have a sense that Plax has a chip on his shoulder and is going to silence all his critics this weekend.
"18-1, Write that Book"
I've got that same"sense"
nothing tangible but, it wouldn’t surprise me if Plax had a dominant performance……………..Then how would everyone who’s currently predicting he doesn’t finish his contract justify letting him go? My take Plaxico and Coughlin may never see eye to eye but they’re both pros and won’t let that get in the way of success. I really think their “relationship” thing has been overblown by a local media who doesn’t generally know how to deal in anything but negatives. Ever hear Phil Simms talk about his"relationship" with Parcells?
We're only gonna score 17 points?

57 already brought up the Simms-Parcells relationship.
I hope you guys are right, but have my doubts. Parcells really dumped on Simms all the time and, aside from a few flare-ups, Simms just took it. TC is a fanatical disciplinarian but isn’t mean (or maybe sarcastic?) as Tuna. Plax would never have taken the kind of abuse Parcells heaped on Simms. Then again, TC will never dish it out in the demeaning way P did.
I’m trying to talk myself into seeing things the way you two do, but haven’t succeeded. I think Ed has it right. I am looking forward to him having a great game vs. the Steelers. As for justifying his departure if and when he leaves, it’s not my job, so I woudn’t try. i would express disappointment that things didn’t work out.

You are right about the sarcasm, George.
Parcells has baited a lot of his guys into playing their best. He was sharp tongued for sure but almost always knew how far he could go. I have to admit he is still my favorite coach of all time.

I think the only person he wants to silence
Is his own head coach.
You would have to hope Plax will want to come back strong, especially against the team that let him go.

Winslow
I actually think he’s getting a raw deal. The Browns wanted him to cover up their irresponsibility in handling the staph problem in the team facilities, leading all sorts of rumors about what was wrong with him. This isn’t a guy popping off about passes or getting fined for being late, this is a guy being muzzled to protect the team from possible expose and embarrassment for not managing the safety of players properly. Players have every right and responsibility to speak out about that.
