Ralph Vacchiano Chats About the Giants
Ralph Vacchiano, who covers the Giants for the NY Daily News, just finished up a live chat, and gave quite a bit of good insight. Some of the things Ralph discussed with Giants fans:
- The Plax-Coughlin situation
- Brandon Jacobs and the Giants stable of running backs
- Tynes vs. Carney
- Injuries
- Jeremy Shockey
- The infamous "red jerseys" (yes, they are probably going to reappear)
Here is the link to the live chat: The Blue Screen - NY Daily News

ugh....Red Jerseys
dear Giants management: please ditch those abominations, listen to your fanbase, and wear throwback 1986 uniforms once a year. Thanks…

their record in the Red jerseys
has to be similar to that of Notre Dame’s in the green. everytime they bring those out, it’s an absolute disaster.

As long as we're talking fashion
Could someone tell me why QBs don’t wear silvered face shields so opposing CBs can’t see their eyes? And if teams can have several uniforms, is there any differences in the visibility of the receivers to the QB? Why don’t teams design their uniforms to maximize visibility? (Yeah, it doesn’t help the Bengals but they’re the Bengals.) Does the NFL have any rules posted somewhere? Can Moss wrap his helmet in reflective tape or put blinking LEDs on it? I mean, he’s only 5’8". How can Eli ever find him?

you know Michigan's helmets?
those were originally designed for just that purpose. Back in the days of leather helmets (all the same color) the head coach at Princeton wanted to help his QB differentiate his own players, so he painted stripes on the helmets. He then got a job at Michigan and brought the idea there. Then, a few years later, he got a job at Delaware and brought the idea there as well. Eventually, when they switched over to the style of helmet we have today, Michigan and Delaware both kept the stripes on the helmet…Princeton, for the record, re-adopted them a few years ago (theirs are orange, it’s pretty weird to see).

I can tell you this
Back in 1984, one of the reasons the Bills changed their helmets from white to red was to help the receivers stand out among the other teams in the AFC East that were wearing white helmets at the time.(Dolphins, Colts, and Patriots)

I actually love the red jerseys...
they break up monotony, and give the fans a reason excited about (and spend an additional $90)

And that's what
it’s really all about. That additional $90 fans will spend.

we had this conversation several times last year, but I will say it again
I absolutely despise the red jerseys. They make the Giants look like the Cardinals, and why in Gods name would anybody want to look like them.

i can only remember one win
three years ago against the cowboys I think. I was at that game. I hate em though, like Ed said, we’re big blue. I don’t how excited I’d be about home 80’s throwbacks, I mean it’s really just a red stripe difference. I wouldn’t mind seeing the 80’s blue away jerseys though.
