Time: 8:30 p.m. EST
Stadium: Cleveland Browns Stadium

Final Score: Browns 35, Giants 14

Amidst all the Tony Gonzalez talk, let's not forget the Giants have a huge game tonight agains the Cleveland Browns.

With the losses by Dallas and Washington this weekend the Giants could take a big step forward in the NFC East race with a win tonight. Let's not forget, the last 11 games of the schedule are brutal so the Giants can't let any of these 'should win' games slip away.

Here is your Open Thread for tonight's Giants-Browns Monday Night Football matchup. Enjoy the game!

I have a paper due tomorrow morning

that I haven’t even started, some of my favorite TV shows are on tonight, the baseball playoffs are in full swing, and the Giants are on MNF! Sensory overload…

I’m gonna try to watch the Giants game while writing my paper. We’ll see how productive I am…

by cjmulrain on Oct 13, 2008 7:22 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

for me is huge

I have not been able to watch the giants play since the opener, I work on sunday mornings, if the games were at 4 then yes, so I became an internet junkie listening games over the giants.com page. So I won’t be here to comment, but I will read everything tomorrow (unless they loose wich is unlikely, I hope)

MNF

This would be a huge win the way the NFC East is shaping up. The tough part of the schedule is yet to come, and building a cushion would be a great thing.

yes

Like I said earlier, I’m glad the GMen saw how teams lost yesterday so they are more focused, I don’t care if they win by 1 point, as long as we get some distance from the other teams

Inactives

Here are your inactives tonight, courtesy of Mike Garafolo.
K Lawrence Tynes
S Sammy Knight
RB Danny Ware
CB Sam Madison
LB Jonathan Goff
OL Adam Koets
DE Dave Tollefson
WR Sinorice Moss

Surprised to see Moss on the list. What does the guy have to do? He caught two touchdown passes last week.

I hope Jacobs runs all over em. And god forbid the Browns get a TD it better be Edwards.

strange sequence of kickoffs

they drop the ball and it bounces into the endzone. Ours bounces before a player can catch it and we have to dive on it. Have you ever seen 2 consecutive kickoffs with no return that weren’t kicked into the endzone or onsides kicks?

by DoctorK16 on Oct 13, 2008 11:18 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

maybe

but frankly, this is pretty embarrassing. The Giants were set up to take a commanding early lead in the division and prove that they really are the best team in the NFL. Instead, they lay an egg against a 1-3 team with all the flaws that were worried about in the offseason coming back to bite them (Eli back to throwing stupid picks, defensive line not generating any pressure, secondary getting burned). I still have confidence that this is one of the best teams in the league, but this game is worrying.

by cjmulrain on Oct 13, 2008 11:22 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Cleveland is the best 1-3 team in football

One that with some luck and a some decent clock management down the stretch last year would have been 11-5 and had an explosive offense. Classic trap game.

I know the schedule is tough, but as tonite showed, it doesnt matter who you play, anything can happen.

At the very least, they got themselves some breathing room for the tough part of their schedule b/c of the rest of the divisions results….so you cant assume dallas, wsh and philly will roll through the next five weeks of theirs either.

autoplacement into a Super Bowl

that’s what you call beating the Bucs, Packers, and, wait for it, Cowboys on the road in December? Interesting.

The Eagles lost to a very clearly overrated Cowboys team, a good but not great Bears team, and a Redskins team that the Giants dominated. And I don’t want to hear “the Redskins were a different team then” because they just lost to the Rams, who the Giants crushed, so obviously they’re not all that great either.

Sorry you completely missed

I was talking about the overrated comments and how everyone has already placed the giants in the super bowl. What is so clear about the cowboys being overrated. The giants beat the redskins by 9. The cowboys lost by 2. The giants went to OT against the bengals. The cowboys won by 9. The Giants lost to the browns by 21. The cowboys beat the browns by 18.

here's the difference:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Bowl_XLII

Defending champions are supposed to get the benefit of the doubt. Teams that haven’t won anything in 12 years aren’t. That’s just the way it goes. But the fact is that coming into this season, the Cowboys were consistently rated ahead of the Giants. Right now, the Giants have a better record than the Cowboys. It doesn’t really matter who they’ve beaten or who they’ve lost to until they play each other, but right now the Giants are still in first place, and have a nice advantage. The Giants 1 loss is to an AFC team, the Cowboys and Redskins 2 losses are BOTH to NFC teams, and BOTH have lost to an NFC East team. The Eagles have lost 3 NFC games, and 2 NFC East games. That gives the Giants a big advantage so far.

And your points are just fucking retarted. Boddom line the giants are going into a brutal schedule THE REST OF THERE SEASON. They only have a 1 game lead on the cowboys and redskins. As much as no one will admit it around here yall are worried to death.

Bummed? yes. worried? yes.

As a giants fan I am always worried. That is life as a Giants fan, but I would rather still have a 1 game lead going into a tough part of the schedule than be 3-3 or 4-2 just off of some equally idiotic losses.

1-game lead

FALSE

I’m tired of debating with you, but the Giants effectively have a 2 game lead on the Redskins and a 1-game lead with a tie-breaker against the Cowboys. Yea, the Giants schedule is tough down the stretch, but it’s really not that much tougher than the Cowboys schedule, so I don’t know what you’re carping about. Why don’t you focus on your team, which has its own problems, and let us focus on ours. We’ll let the play on the field do the talking in a few weeks.

Cowgirls were he one with the Autoplacement in the SB

With all of the superstars and everyone’s prediction to go to the SB and at very least win the NFC East. I agree the schedule gets tougher, but as you saw this weekend, parity still rules in the NFL.. no one knows that better than the Giants (loss to the Browns), Cowgirls (loss to AZ) and the Foreskins (Loss to the Rams). Dont get all high and mighty considering you are rolling out a guy that started in the 60s as your new QB, Felix Jones out for 3 weeks and Pacman potentially headed toward suspension or worse on a parole violation.

the Cowgirls still have the best talent, unfortunately, like every year for the last 10, it goes wasted.

Another stupid comment

Like the last 10? Did you even watch football 5 years ago? The cowboys just recently became a talented team again. They were horrible the previous 8 years.

talented team with how many playoff wins?

I think talented requires actually proving it by winning.

The simple truth...

… is that you don’t win every “should win” game in the NFL. This was a disappointing loss, to be sure, but we play Pittsburgh and San Francisco next, two more “should win” games that will give us some momentum (as long as we win) heading into our game with Dallas.

I’m sure the hysteria that grips sports writing will pronounce the Giants dead in the water, starting with tomorrow’s power rankings. Remember, then, these are the same people that seriously thought of placing the Redskins, who just lost to the 1-918 Rams, in the No. 1 spot last week.

thank you

for some realism. I guess when your team doesn’t lose in 8 months, you just forget what it feels like. It kinda sucks…but in a way, this loss might be a good thing; after all, we wouldn’t want to start feeling entitled like Patriots fans last year, would we?

I will always love the NYGs for smacking Belicheck

…and his lost souls from what they thought they were entitled. Eli & friends will continue to be our inspiration for all time. Giants are A-OK!

May the wind be always at your back, and may your placekicker have icewater in his veins.

DallasCowboysTO

has been banned from BBV. You guys know how I feel about the kind of crap he has been bringing here. I am not tolerating it. We will keep this site at an adult level, not a juvenile, stupid name-calling level.

Thanks Ed

I’m all for dialog and actually discussing the game – but when someone essentially descends into name calling BS there’s no place for it. Even Terry acts more adult than that, which is saying something….
