Tyree set to return next week
The Star-Ledger reported today that David Tyree is set to return next week and has been healthy and working out the past three weeks with no swelling or any troubles. This is good news but the bad, of course, is who do the Giants let go? Moss? Not so fast after last week. Hixon? Forget about that, too. Manningham ... not a chance. Usually, I'd have an immediate and strong opinion on this. At the moment I'm kind of waffling back and forth wondering do they let him go? What would you do as GM? This is not the time I'd want to trade places with Jerry Reese.

I think the Giants should sit Tyree down
And say:
“Are you sure that knee is ok?”
“Really sure? I mean really really sure?”
“Like 100% sure? Like "death and taxes” sure?"
“Because you know, David, if you wanted to take off the rest of the season, we would certainly understand. Wait, was that a grimace on your face? Knee acting up is it?”
“Well, whaddya know David? I just happen to have tickets to the Bahamas, all expenses paid, for 2 months. So, um, yeah, how is that knee?”

Manningham
They would have to waive him first, and there is no way he makes it to the practice squad if that happens. someone would pick him up and they would lose him. Too much potential there for that to happen.

would tyree clear waivers?
other teams dont have the sentimentality for him so maybe they could slip him by and on to the practice squad.
You think
He would actually accept that? No way.

If he's nothing else, he's a superior special teams player
(not as good as when he started but still suprerior) so someone would claim him for sure.

only players with less than 4 years experience are practice squad
eligible. I would try to train Sinorce Moss to free up a spot. He’s still useful on Specials.
And why would Manningham
Go play on the practice squad for about 100 grand? If he is on a 53 man roster, he gets at least the rookie minimum of 285K.

But seriously folks....
I think its going to come down to Tyree or Moss.
Moss is starting to show his potential, and let’s face it, if not for “Catch 42”, we’re not even having this debate. The Giants make take a little PR hit on this one, but I think cutting Tyree is the obvious answer. Of course, the WR situation can change in an instant, and this conversation may not matter. But if you ask me right now which way I am leaning, I say cutting Tyree is the option that makes the most sense.

Maybe not
Remember that w/Reuben Droughns and Danny Ware the Giants are carrying an extra running back. They are also carrying two placekickers. They won’t do that all season. If Tyree is activated I think the Giants can do it without letting any of their other receivers go.

Good point
I’d already thought about cutting from another spot but, somehow I’d forgotten about kicker. Getting rid of Carney at this point might have ruffled a few feathers too but now I fear he’s a goner. Droughns has been valuable on specials and it never hurts to have too many healthy running backs. PR considerations solved. It couldn’t hurt to work on tightening my abs with isometrics every time the Giants attempt an extra point.
We're only gonna score 17 points?

you stole my thunder
i was just gonna say that Droughns seems like the most likely candidate to be cut. it’s not like there’s an NFL rule that if you bring back a WR you have to cut one of your WRs. i’m not sure what Tyree’s role will be on this team, but if they want to bring him back they should part with Droughns instead of Moss, Manningham, or Hixon.

you put your best 11 guys on the field
That Superbowl catch was a truly beautiful moment, one of the greatest in professional sports. However, the Giants and Jerry Reese have always had the Philosophy of putting the best 11 players on the field.
Let Tyree work out for the team, he deserves that much. But let’s not forget that he only managed to catch the ball a couple of times all last year.
Tyree has cemented his place in sports mythology with that catch of his, but I think he even knows the writing’s on the wall. Remember the book deal?
Tyree's legacy
I think that if he gets cut this year, right after making two key plays in the biggest game of his life, it would add to Tyree’s legend because he’d end up as that uncelebrated player who had one big game in his career. He’d be kinda like the Giants’ Aaron Boone.

Droughns or Carney
I think he’s the skill player on the 53 man roster with the least upside. Ware proved he was a better runner during training camp and preseason, with that said, i believe Droughns is the backup fullback were anything to happen to Hedgecock. This one is interesting. If Tynes is ok, then it has to be Carney, he’s too much of a liability on kickoffs we can’t always count on the defense being as dominant as it is, and there are some solid kick returners within the division and our schedule, and with tyree, the field position on kickoffs becomes even worse for the other team because his true value is the fact that he’s one of the best guys in the NFL in kick coverage.

Don't forget special teams
I would keep Tyree, not only for sentimental value, but because he’s one of our best cover guys on special teams. One of the kickers or one of the extra running backs (Droughns or Ware) is probably expendable. With Plax being Plax and Amani getting older, I don’t think it makes sense to give up on any of our good looking young receivers. Manningham has a huge upside and Moss finally seems to be playing up to his potential too. Given Droughns’ experience , his value as a kick returner, and the fact that he can back up at fullback, I’d cut Ware. A kicker would make even more sense, but that’s just too tough a call. Tynes is maddeningly inconsistent, but those short kickoffs are a disaster waiting to happen. I agree with whoever said he wouldn’t want to be Jerry Reese.
What a conundrum! lol
A horrible problem. You guys are so deep at WR, figuring out who to cut is a problem. Quality problems, huh?

Don't forget the possibility of JR trading someone for a draft pick
as he did last year.
PS
I’d hate to see Ware go. He was our best RB in preseason.
But we already have trouble getting the three backs ahead of Ware in the rotation enough carries, and Ware’s success was in preseason games against second stringers. I agree it would be hard to part with him. He could turn out to be the next Ryan Grant. Does he contribute on coverage teams? Maybe the best solution is to bite the bullet and go with one kicker. When’s the last time you can remember the Giants having this kind of depth? You really have to give Reese and the rest of the front office credit for being able to spot and stockpile talent.
I'd rather see a trade
It seems like cutting a guy like Tyree is so damn unceremonious. I’d almost rather they have a sit-down with Tyree and basically “discuss” with him the pros of sitting this season out and riding off into the sunset, etc.
However, having said all that, I still think that trading or cutting S. Moss for anything – even a pack of juicy fruit and a case of Budwesier – should be the route to follow. So Moss had one decent half….So what. The guy has been a huge bust thus far and I would much rather keep Tyree and see Moss get cut and sign on with someone else (even though the most likely destinations are the other three NFC East teams!).
This is a tough one, but if it comes down to the two of them, Tyree deserves the roster spot and Moss doesn’t.
this is amazing
Last year at this point in the season, few would care about the Giants getting rid of Tyree, he’d just be another cut, but now he’s David Tyree American Hero.. Geez i love sports
In fairness to Tyree...
he has been an excellent special teams player. But now that Hixon is returning kicks his usefullness has been diminished. I think Moss has more upside than David and the only way he stays is if someone else like Droughns goes. I would keep Ware because he has younger stronger legs.
Unfortunately we cannot afford to nostalgic with or choices.

Goodbye Tynes, you mean
I would not let Carney go. Lest everyone forgets, Tynes is not a great kicker.
We're gonna STOMP you out!
ryan grant- ware
grant sucks i said right away at the end of last year he is a 1 season wonder
i think they should cut like darcy johnson or droughns not ware n not carny lets face it tynes cant kick for shit he is not a good fg kicker n w/ darcy johnson they have a good up and coming tightend on the psquad no need for darcy they could also cut knight or rw or adam koets but def no reciever should be cut and i will personaly kill reese if moss gets cut hes my boy
