Wednesday Walk Around the NFL, 10.01.08
Happy Wednesday and Happy October, Giants fans, it is time for us to take our weekly walk around the NFL. Here are some of the stories making headlines around the NFL.
- Al Davis has fired Lane Kiffin as head coach of the Raiders, for real this time. After numerous reports last week that it was going to happen, it finally went down yesterday. Offensive line coach Tom Cable drew the short straw, and was named interim head coach.
- From Fan IQ, Davis accused Kiffin of Lying And Using Propaganda. And you gotta love that picture.
- FanHouse has video of the Al Davis press conference.
- We all love these, especially this week. After scouring the Web, I can tell you that your New York Football Giants are at the top of every power ranking I found. Here are Pete Prisco's rankings on CBS Sportsline.
- Ed is going to hate this, but the Shutdown Corner brings us the absurdly premature playoff picture.
- Dolphins RB Ricky Williams says he resisted the urge to smoke pot on the bye week. For the record, so did I.
- Finally, the Dallas Cowboys Examiner whines about the supposed lack of class the Redskins showed by celebrating on the Dallas star.
Yes, you read that right, a Dallas Cowboy fan is complaining about a "lack of class". A fan of the team that brought you Deion Sanders and Michael Irvin is complaining about a "lack of class".
A fan of the team that Emmitt Smith played for, the man who forced the league to make a rule about removing your helmet in celebration because he was constantly strutting around without it, is complaining about a "lack of class".
A fan of the team that employs Terrell Owens and Pacman Jones, is whining about a "lack of class". It always amazes me how many whiny cards Dallas Cowboy fans will play when their team loses. He even mentions how T.O. celebrated on the star as a 49er, but I guess that was OK because now he is one of them.

it was also a lack of class
when Jacobs spiked the ball off of their play clock after scoring the game-winning touchdown in the Divisional playoff last year.
i absolutely loved it.

Dallas
Has set the precedent on “lack of class” over the years. No amount of “get back” is enough to suit me, I don’t care what team it comes from.

is it just me?
or are Dallas Cowboy fans the most classless individuals in the sporting world? Last year during the playoffs there was a “gentleman” at my bar who didn’t merely support his team, but also ridiculed every other patron sporting the NY and blue. It wasn’t just comments like “your team sucks” etc. But personal attacks like “hey fatty how’d you like that TD?!” Needless to say, he tried to quietly sneak out when the game was over, but failed miserably. To the tune of “Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey hey, good-bye!” damn that felt good. I haven’t seen him this year… :)

"Hey Fatty how'd you like that TD?"
God, how many times did I hear THAT during SB 35……

cowboys have the worst fans
i think i hate the eagles and maybe even the redskin teams more, but i am genuinely entertained by all the nutjobs on the dallas team. its a good ‘nfl product’. i obviously want them to lose but its their fans that i hate more than the team.
eagles and skins fans are annoying, but at least they are not delusional (though they may be irrational). the worst are the cowboy fans who are obsessed with defneding the title of America’s Team. who cares? fine, youre america’s team, you’re also america’s most hated team. go to hell cowboys fans.

Cowboy fans
make a lot of noise for a team that hasn’t won a playoff game since Bill Clinton was staining dresses in the White House, and not THAT White House……well, maybe that White House.

heh
strange how Cowgirls fans have forgiven T.O. for celebrating on the star back when he was with the 49ers though. he’s classy now.
(by the way, the link to that story is broken.)

What link Josh?
The one in the Dallas story is working for me.

Great Book
Gents, I really can’t recommend enough reading “Boys Will Be Boys” by Jeff Pearlman. It’s an incredible discourse on the Cowboy’s dynasty teams of the ’90’s. It’s fascinating. I’m 3/4 of the way through it now and it is such a great read if you are a football fan.
And for all you Mets fans (or even baseball fans for that matter), “The Bad Guys Won” (also by Jeff Pearlman) is a must-read (it’s about the 1986 Mets World Series team).

theres lots of excepts out on the web
and disturbingly the all seem to focus on the chapters describing how charles haley used to whip his dong out all the time and masterbate in the locker room.
and on that note, i think im reading the wrong blogs.

What's actually incredible -
Is how much a jerk Emmitt Smith seems like. And, what a genuinely decent person Aikman seemed like. It’s actually fascinating…

I should read that
but I can’t stand Pearlman. He went to the same college as me and has pretty much done nothing but trash it since he left. Not a huge fan of his.

The Bad Guys Won
Is a great book, I got it last Christmas and read it twice. I never knew how disliked Gary Carter was (is) until I read that book.
that Boys will be Boys is probably a good book, just can’t bring myself to spend money on something related to that team.

Giants fans sure seem to love talking about the Cowboys.
Are you guys happy now that your finally won number 1 in all of the power rankings? We will see you guys in November, until then good luck.

Rankings mean nothing to us
Super Bowl wins do.
