Plax talking too much for TC
If Tom Coughlin has not already had some words -- probably choice ones -- with Plaxico Burress I think it's safe to assume Burress will hear from the coach soon.
Coughlin is not too pleased with the bravado of Burress, who has predicted a Giants' victory over the Patriots in Super Bowl XLII.
Burress doesn't see what the fuss is all about. He feels he is just expressing confidence in his team.
Personally, I don't think Plax said anything horrible. I wish, though, that he hadn't said anything at all. I don't want the Giants giving the Patriots anything that even remotely resembles bulletin-board material, and Burress' remarks could be used that way.
Your thoughts?

I'd be more upset
(that brings me to another point, aimed at Mr. Met and other Giants/Mets fans: how awesome is this week? Super Bowl + Johan Santana = best week ever)
It's a pretty dang durn ding dong
So far, anyway!
We need Johan to agree to his contract and pass his physical, and then have the Giants cap off this unbelievable incredible run with a win on Sunday, and then, it'll be the best week ever, no doubt!

Don't mean nuthin
Once the game starts, I don't believe it has any effect on how anyone plays.
At the same time, I hope people continue to frown on boasting or predictions. The last thing we need is for the NFL to go all WWF on us. I don't need phony stare downs and challenges issued and answered. I find that stuff tedious.
Let's talk football....
Joe Theisman was on the radio today and he said that the Superbowl is officiated differently than the regular season. In Theisman's opinion in the Superbowl the refs "let the players play". Specifically, you can expect to see defensive backs get away with a lot more contact and bumping of receivers.
This wont hurt the Giants on defense-- I hope they get physical with Randy Moss and Wes Welker at the line of scrimmage.
But, the same goes for Plaxico Burress, Steve Smith and Amani Toomer. Lets not forget, Plax is playing on a torn ankle tendon. If the Patriots are able to disrupt the Giants formidable trio of receives just by mugging them, that means their linebackers and defensive backs can concentrate on stopping the run.
I hope this turns into a moot point. I hope the Giants grind the Patriots defene into mush with their running game (and I think they can). At the same time, if Brady's ankle is slowing him down, its all the more reason to forget the receivers and send everyone and their dog into the Patriots backfield on a blitz. The rule of the jungle is "pounce on the cripple"-- and Brady is limping.
Go Giants!!!!
Brady's ankle
re:
Yeah
NE LBs
You really think that the Giants wiil be able to outscore this Patriots team?? You better hope that the LB's are too old to play... you better hope that Brady is hobbled by an injury - otherwise the Giants won't stand a chance.

We sound silly?
the key
If Brady's hobbled at all, I think he's going to have some real problems on passing downs with Tuck coming up the middle.
silly stuff
Here's what I know -
The Giants played their ass off at home a few weeks ago and couldn't beat the Patriots. Eli hit 69% of his passes for 200-plus yards with 4 TD's and one pick. Ain't no way he's gonna pull that off again... 4 TD passes and the Gaints lose... come on. What's he gonna throw on Sunday 5 TD passes? I doubt it. The Pats D may not be great but, they aren't too bad either. No returned KO for a TD (after a dumb major penalty) this game either.
The Pats were without two of their starting offensive tackles and both of their tightends - their offense couldn't do much of what it wanted to do... and they still put up 38 points. I believe that the Patriots will employ a spread offense and force the Giants to cover their 3 wideouts and their slot guy (double cover Moss in fact). If N.Y. can stop the downfield passing of Brady, he'll find Faulk coming out of the back field or begin to hand the ball off to Moroni (who will benefit greatly from having the tightends this time around). If the Giants D chooses to pressure Brady the Pats will run their very effective screens to Faulk or the quick hitters to Welker.
The Giants will have to score at least 35 points to have a chance... if they can do it, we'll have ourselves a good football game.

I heard the game is cancelled.
Congrats on your Super Bowl victory. I hope next year the game will be more evenly matched so they decide to actually play it.

I heard that too!
Hey - don't feel too bad about losing to the Pats... (twice) no one else could beat 'em either.
Good luck next season.

Silly Stuff
The Patriots may be healthier now then they were in December, but so are the Giants.
If Brady's ankle is bothering him, he is going to have trouble throwing the deep ball with accuracy. If this is the case (and I think it will be) the Giants are going have 9 guys in the box. They did this in the second half of the Dallas game and all of the Packers game. With that many guys close the line of scrimmage the Giants were able to simultaneously stifle the Cowboys and Packers running game and short passing game-- including screen passes. Before you start with the Marion Barber noise, remember, he had 100 yards at halftime. Then the Giants realized Romo couldn't throw deep, and put everybody "in the box" and it was pretty well all over for the Cowboys after that.
I fully expect the Giants to come into this game attacking and testing Tom Brady. Even if he can get the ball deep, I think they will risk Jabbar Gaffney or Randy Moss breaking free for a long touchdown because it gets the Giant's defense off the field, and puts the Patriot's old defense back on the field.
When Donald Driver went the distance on the Giants in the second quarter in Green Bay I turned to my son and said, "We had two long drives for field goals. They just erased our lead with one play. Fine. Now their defense can drag their tired asses back out on the field." And my son said "Daddy, can I have some chocolate milk?" Cause he is six years old and doesn't really care about football yet. But he knew I was right. He just didn't care.
Last point, the fast track of that indoor stadium is not going to help Tom Brady. If his ankle is barking the last thing he needs is fast D lineman flying at him making him try to dodge.
Go Giants!
LOL @ you and your son, wankerboy!

Changes
But since you focused on the Pats O, I think the Giants D are in better position to slow down the Pats than the 1st game (of course they won't stop them). The Giants D also had some key injuries. Dockery was out in that game & he could present a good matchup against Welker because of his speed and shiftiness. The Pats scoring binge came after Madison also got hurt, as Brady went immediately to Moss a couple of times. Madison is back. On top of that, Webster has been gaining confidence in the playoffs and has become a force at the other CB spot. I think the Giants will hit the Pats WRs at the line and disrupt their patterns. They'll force Moss inside where he doesn't like to go and then hit him hard. That takes him out of his game (BTW, why did it take everyone so long to remember this?). Now Brady might play great, but his mobility is now a question mark. The Giants D-line was barely missing him in the 1st game and now that he isn't moving as well I think the Giants will get home. If the Pats decide to go to the run, the Giants D-line is great against the run. Ask Green Bay. At any rate, I don't think this is going to be the shootout that everyone thinks it is.
roastbeef
In the Dec. game, Brady was looking for Moss in the second half because they were trying to get the TD passing records! The Pats have done quite well in the playoffs with their opposition paying too much attention to Moss. Brady will take what is given him.
We all admit that Eli will not (cannot?) do any better than he did in that Dec. game... 69% completion rate, 200+ yards, 4 TD's, 1 pick... certainly won't be any better than that. In addition, there will be no kickoffs returned for TD's on Sunday.. ain't no way the Pats get another dumb penalty after a TD. Everybody was gonna hit the Pats receivers at the line and slow down that lethal passing attack... good luck with that.
The Pats D will concentrate on shuting down the N.Y. running game - they will make Eli put the ball in the air to win the game.. same thing they did to the Jaguars. To best the Patriots, the Giants will have to score 35 or more points.. if Eli can throw for five scores and the Giants D can contain the Pats diversified offense, they got a chance at the win.

I'll repeat about Moss too ... he only completed those long catches when Madison left the game. Brady saw it and went after it. I know you'd like to believe that he is out there gunning for records, but Tom is a smart enough QB to take what the D gives him and I think it won't be there this time.
We ALL do not admit that Eli can't have a great game again. If the Pats D is not great like you say, then where is your evidence as to why he can't? You have provided no evidence because there is none.
