SUPER GIANTS WIN IN OVERTIME!

GIANTS 23, PACKERS 20 (OT)
Underdog Giants prove they are Super!!!
The third time was the charm for Lawrence Tynes, as the Giants' kicker drilled a 47-yard field goal in overtime Sunday to propel the Giants into their fourth Super Bowl with a 23-20 victory over Green Bay.

Tynes' two earlier misses, including one as regulation time expired, pushed the game into overtime.

How sweet, though, for the Giants that it ended up being an interception of a Brett Favre pass by Corey Webster that set up the game-winning opportunity.

After a week of hearing Favre-love from all corners, including how the best game would be the legendary Favre trying to shoot down the unbeaten Patriots, it was a mistake by the legendary quarterback that ultimately doomed the Packers.

There were so many heroes for the Giants, it's hard to count them all. Webster, Eli Manning, Plaxico Burress, Gibril Wilson, Justin Tuck, Antonio Pierce, Domenic Hixon, Kevin Boss. The list could go on.

I need to think about it for a while, and I will post your traditional 'Kudos & Wet Willies' Monday morning.

For now, enjoy this. Super Bowl, baby!

Big congratulations!
I am a huge Eagles fan and usually I root against the Giants since they are our divisional rivals.  But tonight I rooted for Eli and the G-Men to show that the NFC East is a force to be reckoned with.  You guys had the toughest schedule going into the playoffs with the Bucs, the Cowboys, and then the Packers.  This win was highly deserved and you played tight football.  The fact that there were no interceptions on Eli was stunning, if this is the Eli of the future then I think the Giants have truly turned a corner in this league.

So I tip my eagles sideline hat to you and I hope that you pull off yet another upset in two weeks against the pats.  My home is filled with Eagles fans, but just for tonight we all pulled for the Blue and Red.  So I wish you many successes going into the next game and enjoy the wins this year...because we'll get you next year! ;-)

Go Eagles.

Thanks.
We couldn't have done it without Spags.  Kudos to your Andy Reid and Jim Johnson for developing him into one hell of a great DC.

Eli............................
If the Giant's defeat the Pat's, then I suppose Eli will get to host SNL.

Where
is number 4?

by All Day on Jan 21, 2008 3:24 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I think we need to give props to our entire
defense.  Aside from the huge 90 yard touchdown, they pretty much kept Favre from moving the ball downfield.  Look at the third-down efficiency numbers and all, that was an amazing performance, and they came up huge when we needed them most.

not too complain
I'm just curious, could that have been holding on Driver when he threw Webster to the ground?

by queler on Jan 20, 2008 11:16 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

no
you're allowed to defend yourself from a jam. That is why a lot of teams don't like to do it, because of that play right there.

Somethings are Good
Yes Good ....Heart and battle and conquering....There is only the will to make good the dividends of what you are about. Basically to be the best. A sense of pride to create the future of tradition, the glory of the battles fought by past greatness. we get to be apart of this. yes, this is good. The New York Giants are going to the Superbowl to be either way the essence of greatness. Damn I'm proud of these guy's.

Wow
What an incredible game. I said it a month ago in the Giants Stadium bathroom after the Pats loss, and I'll say it again: "We'll just beat them in February"....well, now we get to go do that.

By the way, where did numberfour and all the other Packers fans go? I guess they're hiding in Cabo with Terry and the rest of the fans who don't have anything to root for until September...

congratulations..
before the pats game, i came and basically said "no way you guys win the super bowl, so try and stop perfection".

obviously i was seriously, seriously wrong.

congratulations on going to the super bowl, i will be cheering ultra-hard for an upset of the pats.

i hate the patriots.

I'm in a daze
I just can't believe this team.  Considering how pessimistic I was about them even making the playoffs back in August, this little run has been the most enjoyment I've had as a Giants fan since I was 10 years old and Norwood missed wide right.

In 2 weeks, either the Giants will do what they're supposed to do (i.e. what they were supposed to do against Dallas and Green Bay) or they'll pull off the greatest upset in Superbowl history.  I truly believe in the latter.  Giants 24, Patriots 21.

Go Big Blue!!!!!!!!!!!

November 11th: revenge time on Dallas.

just played that superbowl. Hopefully it will be the same thing. We now get to hear how great the giants are for another week!

WOOOOOO
But...

"The third time was the charm for Lawrence Tynes, as the Giants' kicker drilled a 47-yard field goal in overtime Sunday to propel the Giants into their third Super Bowl with a 23-20 victory over Green Bay."

Much as I'd like to forget the debacle against Baltimore, I'm pretty sure this won't be the Giants' third trip to the Super Bowl.  :-p

Coughlin kept his cool
Well, mostly anyway.  He did get understandably hot when Tynes missed that first field goal. But he has shown an amazing amount of self control and has succeeded in changing his  coaching and sideline demeaner.

At least in Arizona it will be warm enough to toss the Gatorade...it would have been a solid block of ice last night, and he can look forward to signing that new contract that he has proven he richly deserves.

speechless
what a ride.

think about where they were after that week 2 loss to green bay, think about where they were when the vikings returned three picks for touchdowns, think about where they were after that sunday night home loss to the skins when eli threw like 60 passes and completed 10.

and just think about where is now.

simply amazing.

Great game
I was way wrong, Favre indeed will win it for you. It was a tough battle, lots of ups and downs, and the Giants got the total upset package: Great performances by no-namers, a few calls here and there, and ultimately, great luck (5 fumbles, only 1 TO, I mean wow), and Eli showed up well enough in the cold to win it.

It was an exiting journey to get to this game, I never thought we'd make it, so it was fun while it lasted. I really can't believe we lost, but these things happen in todays NFL.

Kudos and good luck!

Thanks NumberFour
Thanks for coming back and being classy enough to take your medicine. The Packers are a great young team and they'll be back. Hopefully we will meet in  the playoffs again because it was fun.

Now I'm going to nitpick ... "a few calls here and there"? I don't think we were watching the same game then. The calls were DEFINITELY in the Packers favor. There were several questionable calls made on the Giants and I can't think of 1 that was questionable called against the Pack. I'm also not sure why these guys are no-namers?

by potroast on Jan 21, 2008 7:38 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

no-namers
I thought about calling them that after the post, and I just meant, they aren't well known amongst fans and the like, not that they weren't important. But guys that I've never heard of before made plays like I've never seen before, so that was the impression in my brain.

Yes, I agree, tons of flags were left in the pockets of the refs in the first half. But they came out with a fury in the second half, and I thought mostly they hurt us. Its subjective, I suppose. The stripes weren't going to call ticky-tack penalties, I thought, and they didn't for the most part, until I'm sure they heard a bunch of whining from both sides. Then both teams got some, but the flags actually hurt us the most.

Eli
In a post game interview Eli was asked about what he dreamed about when he dreamed about going to the Superbowl. He got really choked up, which was great to see. The guy is usually so unemotional, so to see him like that almost got me choked up. What a game he had ... he outplayed the great Brett Favre!
