Tiki Torture will seemingly never end

The Tiki Torture just will not stop for Tom Coughlin and the New York Giants.

TV Tiki has now turned into Author Tiki and -- as you would expect -- is continuing to hammer away at the Giants coach. He is bluntly blaming Coughlin for driving him out of football.

"If Tom Coughlin had not remained as head coach of the Giants, I might still be in a Giants uniform," Barber writes, according to the Daily News, which first published excerpts of "Tiki: My Life in the Game and Beyond".

"[Coughlin] robbed me of what had been one of the most important things I had in my life, which was the joy I felt playing football," Barber wrote, according to the newspaper. "I had lost that. He had taken it away."

Good Lord! When will the Tiki Torture end for the Giants? Somebody please, shut him up. Burn his books. Do something. Send him on a long assignment to a Third World country. Just make him go away.

Was he feeling joy as a decent back who kept fumbling away games while playing for Jim Fassel? Was he feeling joy being a mediocre player for a team that was going backwards before Coughlin arrived? Was he feeling joy sharing carries with Ron Dayne?

Tiki is nothing more than an ungrateful jerk. Coughlin is hardly a picnic, but his arrival in New York is the only reason Barber became a superstar and is at least in the conversation when it comes to the Hall of Fame.

Instead of torching Coughlin, Tiki should be thanking him for kick-starting his stuck in neutral career.

Jerk! When I see his bald mug on TV I'm just going to turn off the sound or change the channel. He's not worth my attention.

Blabber
Maybe they should rename him Tiki Blabber. He continues to embarrass himself with remarks such as these. He looks ungrateful and foolish.

I like it
I think we may have to officially change all first references to him here at BBV to use Tiki Blabber from now on.

and another thing....
Strahan is the last remaining veteran, marquee player from "Country Club Fassel", and not much to our surprise, he pulls off an attention grabber by holding out the entire preseason. Sound familiar?? Man I want to say the team is almost better off with neither of them. At least if this team loses, they'll take it like men and not point fingers.

couldn't disagree more
Coughlin is a terrible coach, that staff wasted his last years in NY.  As I recall, the only think Coughlin did was insist that he hold it a different way. Do a Google search for Tiki and "Impact training".  That is the reason (plus 20 lbs. of muscle) that Tiki's career restarted.  Lost in his original ripping is the real reason it wasn't fun for him:  They were playing pads 6 days a week, no wonder Coughlin's tenure has been filled with injuries.

Injuries
So, if Coughlin's 'tough' practices are to blame for the injuries the Giants have suffered the past couple of years how do you explain all the injuries during the tenure of 'Country Club' Fassel? It's just something that happens in football.

Also, if Coughlin's practices are so difficult how come the beat reporters this year were saying this was one of the easiest training camps they have ever witnessed? I know what Coughlin is, but Tiki's self-serving rips don't help anybody. If he really wanted to play instead of promote himself he could have asked for a trade -- he didn't do that once.

jerk??
I can't believe your dissing Tiki when he speaks the truth. He was your entire offense for the last several years and you're throwing him under the bus, thats not right.

You'll be wishing he still played when the Cowboys humiliate your G Men this Sunday on national TV.

by Terry @ Big Blue View on Sep 4, 2007 4:29 PM EDT reply actions

Truth?
Whether he's right or wrong is no longer the point. The point is he is no longer a member of the Giants and Giants fans for the most part are tired of his whining. He threw Coughlin under the bus every time he didn't get enough carries and he's still blaming him. Jerk! Jerk! JERK! I loved him as a player, but I will stand by that. And I'll get his book at the library, I won't spend a dime for it and put any money in his pocket.

last time I checked this is America
and in this country you're certainly allowed to express your opinion, especially in an autobiography for crying out loud. I can't figure out how writing a book about yourself makes you a jerk.

I wonder if you'll feel this same way next year after Coughlin is fired. I doubt it.

America
You are certainly free to express your opinion. And we are free to disagree with it. As for Coughlin, he might very well get fired, and I think all Giants fans know it. That, however, doesn't excuse the constant, self-serving sniping from Tiki Blabber. He can say whatever he wants, but we don't have to care.

by Ed Valentine on Sep 5, 2007 9:48 AM EDT up reply actions

you did more than disagree
you insulted the man who was the face of your franchise just because he wrote a book and said some uncomlimentary things about a coach who deserves to be thrown under the bus.

You can't fault a guy for trying to make some money, especially since he's not making multi millions anymore as a player. Its not like he held a press conference or was interviewed when making those comments.

Your argument
Your argument is valid if this was the only occurrence, but it is not. Tiki has thrown his team under the bus many times to make himself look better. After the 2005 season Tiki blamed Coughlin for the playoff loss when it was apparent that blame should be assigned to many of the players who forgot to show up and play as well. Tiki took a shot at Coughlin again after last season and then is doing it again here. He also recently slammed Eli. Now if Tiki had just said that he wasn't sure if Eli could be a leader and left it alone, then that's fine. But Tiki had to take it further and say he was "comical" when speaking to the team. This has also lead Toomer to believe that Tiki will take unfair shots at anyone on the team now that he is in TV. This is not a team player.

He even took a shot at the fans in his new book by indicating that the fans:

"The fans normally only see me suited up on Sunday," Barber wrote. "They never witness the agony of Monday morning, or all the muscle-straining workouts, the practices, the blood, the sweat, and tears it takes to walk out onto the field.

He wrote that fans who don't witness the pain athletes go through can't understand why so many sports figures quit. He said that by walking away, true-blue fans saw him as a heretic, while those who saw football as a war considered him a deserter.

We all loved him as a player, but we are tired of him as a broadcaster. If you go back to previous posts we all said as much. You can try to paint us  as terrible fans because of this, but the fact is Tiki is alienating us the fans and his former teammates and coaches.

They're so cocky. No wonder I hate that team so much.

I think we all know what's going on here.
Poor Terry still hasn't recovered from last year.  Have fun sinking to the bottom of the division with Wade Phillips at the helm this year.  LOL!

by Mr Met @ Big Blue View on Sep 5, 2007 10:17 AM EDT up reply actions

wishful thinking Mr Met
Phillips' defensive wizardry is going to have Eli running and screaming like a little girl Sunday, count on it, while Romo slices and dices your secondary.

Try not getting too stiff of a neck looking up at us in first place all season while you and the Deadskins fight it out for basement supremecy.

by Terry @ Big Blue View on Sep 5, 2007 10:32 AM EDT up reply actions

your coach is a joke
hes been horrible everywhere hes gone.

and good luck getting in first place this season, maybe then you can win a fucking playoff game for the first time in a decade.

by SBakerTheTouchdownMaker on Sep 5, 2007 1:03 PM EDT up reply actions

you obviously don't know anything
if you're calling one of the best defensive minds in football a joke. If he is, I can only imagine what Coughlin is.

Like I said earlier, when poor Eli is running for his life, we'll see how much of a joke Phillips will be then.

He took one the worse defenses in football a few years ago (SD) and made them into one of the best, just like he did everywhere else he coached.

I can remember people like yourself saying Belichick was a joke after his stint with Cleveland. 3 SB titles later, you think people still think he's a joke?

by Terry @ Big Blue View on Sep 5, 2007 2:54 PM EDT up reply actions

um you obviously don't know anything
tell me how many games has wade phillips won in his head coaching career?  how's zero sound?

nobody cares what he did as a coordinator.  norv turner is an awesome coordinator and a horrible head coach.  ditto for dave wannstedt who was the DC of your beloved cowboys in the early 90s and made them the best D in the NFL then went on to two horrible stints in chicago and miami.  success as a coordinator doesnt always translate to head coaching success.

couglin at least took two jags teams to the AFC Championship game including one appearance in their SECOND year of existence.  phillips won 10+ games in 2 of his 3 seasons in buffalo and then shit the bed in the playoffs.

coughlin also won playoff games in '98 and '99 - '99 being the year that the jags went 14-2.

i hate coughlin but ill argue that hes been a better coach and unlike you, i have numbers to back it up.  so unless you know what the fuck you're talking about, take your lame troy aikman jersey and get the hell out of here.

My, my
Hey, Touchdown it seems Terry from Dallas has certainly gotten you worked up. I will add this. Phillips is 0-3 in the playoffs (Coughlin is 4-6 and has gotten there six times). Phillips also is the brainiac who decided to start Rob Johnson instead of Doug Flutie in a playoff game when Flutie had been the starter for the entire season. I guess time will tell, but I don't get how the folks in Dallas can see Phillips as an upgrade over Parcells.

by Ed Valentine on Sep 5, 2007 10:13 PM EDT up reply actions

because the game passed Parcells by
he was arcahic and too old school to be effective anymore, he was a dinosaur. The Cowboys needed a new, fresh approach and Phillips is exactly what they needed.

He'll take our defense to an elite level when healthy as our offense is already ay elite status.

by Terry @ Big Blue View on Sep 5, 2007 10:53 PM EDT up reply actions

like I said
how many playoff games did Belichick win in Cleveland?

by Terry @ Big Blue View on Sep 5, 2007 10:50 PM EDT up reply actions

You are the man!
I gotta hand it to you, Mr. Met -- even though I'm a Yankees guy. That's great stuff.

How pathetic!
Tiki Blabber......Love it.  That should become his official BBV name. Actually tIkI, (it's all about)MEki. TV barber and a few other names not fit for print come to mind too.
Do any other Giant fans out there go on other teams websites for the express purpose of insulting the other teams fans. Not that they don't deserve it but please Cowboy fan go get a life.
