Manning Cleared to Play This Week

According to Ralph Vacchiano of NY Daily News, the famed Dr. Andrews has cleared Eli to play.

The Giants sent Manning's MRI to Dr. James Andrews -- a noted orthopedic surgeon who operates out of Birmingham, Alabama -- and he informed them today that he agreed with their initial diagnosis. He saw no structural damage in Manning's shoulder, and saw no reason to think he could damage it by playing this week.

This is very relieving and completely follows the information the Giants had previously released ... NOT ESPN. Now, it's up to Eli. Personally, I see this weekend as a must win if we think we have a shot at the playoffs this year. 1-1 is waaaay better than 0-2 going in to Washington the next week.

If I had to bet on it, I'd say Eli plays.

dont see it as a must win
eli is the franchise.  better to be cautious.  tho it is very good news considering lorenzen is a circus freak.

Good that Eli is OK
But he's gonna have his work cut out for him without Jacobs.  And Eli could morph into Peyton and it still wouldn't do anything about the fact that the pass rush and secondary are awful, and Umeniyora's injury isn't going to help things on the pass rush front.
Come back Tiki!!!

Thanks, mwilli!
This is great news. We'll see if he plays Sunday. I'm sure it will depend on whether he thinks he can throw comfortably, and take the hits.

id rather
take the 0-2 and have eli sit and get healthy, rather than him suffering any further damage.  throw lorenzen in there and bring eli back for week 3.

Agreed
Unless Eli -- and the doctors -- are completely comfortable I'd rather see him sit for a week. You don't want to gamble with a QB's shoulder.

I don't know if I agree with that
Andrews specifically said he wouldn't suffer any further damage from playing.  The only holding him back is pain.

Eli with half a shoulder makes me more comfortable than Lorenzen starting.

I do think he will start, especially with the advice from Super Doc Andrews that he won't hurt himself.  Eli is a tough SOB.

As long as
there is no risk and he can make the throws I'm OK w/him going out there. But if there's any danger of long-term consequences then I'd rather see him sit.

i think we're all on the same page
as long as there is no risk of further damage and eli can handle the pain, then he should play sunday.

what i meant before is i just don't want this issue coming up again in like week 10.  eli looked really good on sunday night and i dont want him to ruin his season just to avoid an 0-2 start.

also how dissapointed will the national media be
if they dont get one week to make fat shit lorenzen jokes?

i dont get that guy - ok - he's big boned, but hes a professional athlete and hes had 3 years as eli's back up to get his ass in the best shape of his life.  how is he still a wadded doughy slob?  it was funny for a while but the closer he gets to starting the more pissed off i get.

so while i dont want to see him out there, even more reason to make sure eli is fine so its not a regular job for him.

actually....
Lorenzen is very mobile and has a rocket for an arm. In fact, I'd say he is both faster and has a stronger arm than Manning. Now that's not to say he is a better QB (that's obivous), but calling him a slob is a bit of a low blow.

maybe its a low blow
but if youre going to be a pro football player in new york dont want to hear low blows about your weight then hit the god damn treadmill.

he does have a nice arm, tho, if he can be accurate.

Hefty Lefty
We're pretty much all agreed that Eli is#1 and should play if he's able and pain free but....aren't you just a bit curious to see what the big guy could do.........Just a thought.
