Giants vs. Redskins, Open Thread

Game: Giants (9-4) vs. Washington Redskins (6-7)
Time: 8:15 p.m. ET
TV: NBC

Win and they're in! There are a number of scenarios under which the Giants can clinch a playoff berth, but the most appealing is to beat the Washington Redskins tonight.

It should be freezing. It could by snowy. It could be a great night for Big Blue.

Consider this your open thread. Let's get a good discussion going.

Perfect Conditions
for Jacobs to take over.  I remember a way-over-the-hill Csonka doing it in rotten weather once.  Let history repeat.  Well, I don't care how the Giants do it as long as they do it.

Git'r done, and get to the playoffs.

Collins is 0 for 8

Come on, Eli - rally!

Unbelievable!
A crap first half. Lousy play-calling, Jacobs can't catch, Sinorice Moss is definitely a dip-shit. Just awful so far. There's no excuse for this kind of crap.

by Ed Valentine on Dec 16, 2007 10:13 PM EST reply actions

Where is Steve Smith?
And why hasn't Sinorice been benched? That was an unbelievably stupid play.

Where the helllllllllll
is our vaunted defense?

And we can't blame Eli for this one (okay, maybe a little), we're dropping balls like they're hotcakes,  which incidentally, we should be eager to catch seeing as the weather and all.

Shockey?

by NYinCalifornia on Dec 16, 2007 10:45 PM EST reply actions

appearently
Shockey also messed up the ligaments in his ankle and will have surgery on that.

by DoctorK16 on Dec 16, 2007 11:09 PM EST up reply actions

Losing Shockey
seems like a mighty big problem for us, regardless of the result tonight.  With him out, and Plaxico hobbling, and Jacobs with his hands of stone, it's gonna be tough to have any kind of real passing attack.

I was thinking with our road record we might be able to do some damage in the playoffs even as a wild card but with Shockey out my confidence level isn't nearly what it was.

redskin game
terrible game.. when things go bad for then=m it usually steamrolls.. the packer game the same thing happened...

I said it afte r4 plays Gilbride thought the game was in Miami.. I would have ran Jacobs to he collapsed.....

Eli actually played better then his receivers.. 50+ passes no INT's.

Jacobsgret hands, amani came up big, moss is a moron... D came out the 2nd half flying!!!!

terrible loss, they better beat the Bills else it may be a met collapse or a yanks/redsox collapse.. New orleans is not done yet!!!!!!

Root for Minny against the Skins...

Eli
Agreed - I didn't see any real bonehead plays, and I saw a lot of passes that should have been caught, but weren't.

Disagree regarding the playcalls.  The short passes to Jacobs were good enough calls.  He was generally open, and blocking was in front of him. Jacobs needs to catch those

pathetic
at least i got to go to bed early.

by SBakerTheTouchdownMaker on Dec 17, 2007 6:02 AM EST reply actions

one more thing
if the giants just played every game like they do when they are trailing on the road in the fourth quarter, then they would go 16-0 and win the super bowl.

why they cant beat mediocre (sorry skins) teams at home, i'll never understand.

this team is bi-polar.  they could easily be 11-3 or 3-11.  they can beat anyone or lose to anyone on any given sunday.

Some reasons for optimism after last night's
disaster:
  1.  This year at least the Giants have been able to bounce back from these kind of games.
  2. Shockey's loss might not hurt that much.  Boss has better hands; Matthews is at least as good a blocker.
  3. True, Jacobs now has hands of stone, but Tiki was used almost exclusivwely as a third down back when he came into the league.  He learned how to be a good receiver by doing.  No reason Jacobs can't do the same.  Unforunately, that won't happen overnight.
If memory serves me correctly, this team has already accomplished more than many, if not most of us predicted during the preseason.
My biggest worry remains Eli.  I can't ever remember a QB reverting to the same poor technique so consistently, namely, backpedaling in the face of pressure up the middle.

by george cronin on Dec 17, 2007 7:59 AM EST reply actions

Eli
I will not blame Eli for anything last night. Ten dropped passes, including one to Toomer that probably would have been a TD. You can't pin that on the quarterback. He delivered the ball just fine. His receivers didn't catch it.

by Ed Valentine on Dec 17, 2007 9:51 AM EST up reply actions

Given the conditions,
Eli's throws were okay.  That's not to say he was throwing 100% bullseyes.  Without a doubt, there were too many dropped passes, some of them tough catches that pros should make.  No way the loss can be hung on him.  At the same time, I'd like to see him handle pressure up the middle better.  When he does that, he reminds me of Joe Ferguson  when he got happy feet after taking too many beatings.
